His every utterance seems calculated to send progressives into a frenzy. He's one of the most prolific political fundraisers in America. His endorsements of other like-minded America First conservative candidates help those beneficiaries pull ahead in crowded primaries. And the worst-kept secret in American politics is that he wants to swap out his Sunshine State address for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as soon as possible.
No, the politician is not Donald Trump but rather Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who lately seems bent on executing just about every page of the former president's political playbook—only with a sunnier demeanor, less offensive language and fewer of the personal antics that make Trump so polarizing.

Scientists inadvertently bred a horde of unusually aggressive hamsters after a gene editing experiment to 'reduce aggression' went wrong. Researchers at Georgia State University produced new rodents without hormone vasopressin in an effort to raise 'social communication' between the rodents. Yet the chemical change turned the Syrian hamsters wild, prompting fights inside cages. The ultra-vicious hamsters were pictured pinning, biting and chasing each other.(Snip)The study's striking conclusions challenge scientists' understanding of the relationship between biology and behaviour.
The professor added: We don’t understand this system as well as we thought we did. 'The counterintuitive findings tell us we need to start thinking about the actions

Des Moines, Iowa—The Biden administration on Friday set new requirements that increase the amount of ethanol that must be blended into the nation’s gasoline supply but reduce previous ethanol-blending requirements due to a plunge in fuel demand during the coronavirus pandemic. The Environmental Protection Agency said it would set the 2022 levels for corn-based ethanol blended into gasoline at 15 billion gallons.(Snip)The Biden administration also announced Friday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture would provide $700 million to support 195 biofuel producers in 25 states that faced unexpected market losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite our "anxiety" about high gas and food prices, Joe Biden says we need to cheer up: Americans are "more financially comfortable" than at any time in the past decade.
According to the White House statement he read out from his vacation lair at Delaware's tony Rehoboth Beach:
The job market is the strongest it’s been since just after World War Two. We’ve got more evidence of that today. We learned that in May the economy added another 390,000 new jobs, bringing the total since I took office to 8.7 million new jobs — an all-time record.

Joe Biden was evacuated to a fire station and two military jets were scrambled after a light aircraft veered into airspace over the president's Delaware beach house. The 79-year-old and his wife Jill were rushed from the home to the secure location in Rehoboth following the incident on Saturday afternoon. Preliminary investigation revealed the small private plane entered the restricted airspace 'by mistake' and there was 'no threat to the President or his family,' a Secret Service spokesperson confirmed.
The security detail, which is set to interview the pilot, claims the captain was not utilizing proper radio channels and did not follow a perviously issued notice to airmen

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — As the financially struggling Boy Scouts sell off a number of campgrounds, conservationists, government officials and others are scrambling to find ways to preserve them as open space. A $2.6 billion proposed bankruptcy settlement designed to pay thousands of victims of child sexual abuse has added pressure to an organization beset by years of declining enrollment, and the Scouts and their local councils have been cashing in on their extensive holdings, including properties where some of the abuse took place. Developers have bought up some. Preservation groups hope others can be protected and some legislators have taken notice.

The Biden Administration has reached the “you can’t fool all of the people all of the time” stage,” and the evidence shows Americans aren’t buying Biden’s excuses and blame-shifting.
The latest Gallup survey from late May is headlined, “Economic Pessimism Growing in the U.S.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index measured -45 in May, down from -39 in each of the previous two months. It is the lowest reading in Gallup’s trend during the coronavirus pandemic, and likely the lowest confidence has been since the tail end of the Great Recession in early 2009. . . Americans’ economic pessimism took a turn for the worse this month.

The monkeypox virus, which has now been diagnosed in hundreds of people in 26 countries, may have been quietly circulating for years before its sudden emergence worldwide, some scientists speculate. Infectious disease experts and scientists at genetic labs are urgently looking for clues to explain why a virus that has been found in West Africa for half a century and typically doesn’t spread readily from person to person made such a dramatic and troubling appearance in the past month. “There may have been undetected transmission for a while,” said Dr. Rosamund Lewis, the World Health Organization’s technical lead for monkeypox

The beleaguered White House press office suffered another blow this week with the departure of three key staffers for other positions in the executive branch — as a series of reports depict the West Wing in a constant state of chaos.
Mike Gwin, who has been the White House rapid response director since President Biden took office, will move to the Treasury Department and become deputy assistant secretary for public affairs. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described Gwin as an “indispensable member of our team” whose “quiet talent, laser-focused approach, and eagerness to take on whatever challenge comes his way has made him a tremendous asset.”

It’s a green new day for weed dealers in the Big Apple. Mayor Adams promised Friday to not take a “heavy-handed” approach toward those who sell marijuana illicitly in the city and gave New Yorkers his blessing to smoke more pot. While New York legalized recreational weed use last year, the licensing system that’s supposed to regulate cannabis sales isn’t expected to kick off until late 2022—and Adams said Friday afternoon that he doesn’t see a need for cracking down on anyone caught dealing ganja out of stores or on the street in the interim.(Snip)“Enjoy yourself, light up, but most importantly, spend some money.
