A fifth-grade student in Florida was arrested Saturday for threatening to pull off a mass shooting via text messages, police said. The 10-year-old boy, a student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, was handcuffed and walked into a police cruiser Saturday evening for making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement. “Making sure our children are safe is paramount.”

Sad but is a sign of a bigger societal problem. What are the parents of our society doing?

Perhaps this is a picky point, but the wording of the first sentence resulted in a "What?" moment when I read it. Do people really shoot each other with text messages? The author and editor might consider taking a remedial writing course.

As this story shows, we Americans do two things really well.....nothing, and overreact. This story sounds like a case of the latter.

Why do they withhold his name? The public and the parents of the school children deserve to know who these future predators will be instead of waiting around until they actually do something horrible.

Spank him, send him to bed without junk food, and throw his phone in the toilet.

This needs to be taken seriously. I know this child is in the 5th grade, but he should know better than to send out threats. It will work it's way out.

The article quotes someone as saying "The child made a fake threat". On what basis can you know the threat is fake?

Well... I guess those cops are one step ahead of the ones that didn't arrest St. Travon.

The mental health crisis in America is worsening. Now, even children are being driven insane. Satanic and progressive forces at work? Msm, what do you think?

The kid is showing early signs of a mass killer. He should get treatment and be monitored not just interviewed, let go and forgotten until he instigates a mass killing. What kind of prescription drugs has he been on? Is anyone asking?

Put him in a cell and leave him there. Then, go arrest the rest of the criminals, and do the same.

Daniel Issac Marquez is his name. There’s a link in the article. I’d really like to see those texts.

#5, some do some don't "Daniel Issac Marquez was charged with making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting after sending a text about Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral."

No. 5 the kid's name is Daniel Issac Marquez. The identity of this kid was made known when police published his name on facebook. Thankfully, now every parent can begin to take the extraordinary steps necessary to guarantee that their children will be as safe as possible. Because it has been made abundantly clear that the police and the legal system are ineffective at actually stopping criminal acts before they occur. Florida, as well as all other states have the criminal friendly law that juveniles' names should not be published. Of course, the effect of these ridiculous laws is to keep innocent people in the dark as to the criminal background of these proto-criminals. If the legal system was really interested in protecting the innocent the law would require the identity as well as the previous crimes committed by the juvenile criminals.

The question remains, is this child a lonely isolated boy who craved attention, or an upcoming sociopath? In either case, a mental healt intervention is called for. By the by, did he have access to firearms?

I knew a young college post graduate student who was knifed in the abdomen during a mugging attempt by a couple of 10 or 11 year old kids. And yes, they were black kids, of course. Kids this young CAN be very vicious if they are "raised right".....meaning raised entirely in the wrong ways.

The courts protect these kids. Juvenile records need to be public. Having worked at a Juvie court I can tell you some of these kids are afraid of absolutely nothing. Gun shops should have access to juvenile records for 18–25-year-olds applying to buy any gun.

If his 'phony' threat didn't get him attention he wanted, what would he try next? I hate the phrase, but 'fire in a theater' can get people killed even if there is no fire. The cops needed to react the way they did. Imagine the uproar and finger pointing if the kid DID bring a gun to school later.

A 10yr. old boy in Blaine Washington was arrested this week-end for making the same threats at schools in Blaine. Blaine is a small town just a couple of miles this side of the Canadian border. These kids need to be severely punished, no slap on the wrist and a ten day home detention, their faces and names publicized so the community can be forewarned.
