Former President Donald Trump said he believes the United States is now facing an unprecedented threat of nuclear war.The explosive observation was made Monday during a phone interview with conservative radio talk show host John Fredericks during a discussion about this year's midterm primary contests, in particular those set to take place Tuesday in Georgia, the 2024 presidential election, and the state of the country under President Joe Biden."Our country has probably never been worse than it is right now. I think we’re in the greatest danger ever of a nuclear war," Trump said on Outside the Beltway.

Pull out the old Goldwater nuclear footage that Johnson used, substituting Biden's name over the nuclear cloud.

This is one of those things I don't agree on with Trump. We are not at risk of nuclear war. And saying as much is almost as bad as Putin's vague warnings on the matter.
Russia isn't suicidal. Dumb, yes. Trapped in the 20th Century, yes. Delusions of granduer, yes.
But this playing to nuclear war scare is unbecoming.

Before anyone gets into a tizzy, keep in mind that Trump is setting the stage to bring the swamp down. This is Trump negotiating and campaigning. I wouldn't worry about it. Wait until people find out that Putin and Trump discussed this Ukraine invasion last year before it happened. #2 don't be under the assumption that Putin is a major enemy. Trump attended New York Military School. This is 1 of 3 schools that the classes are taught ONLY in Russian. So if you spend 4 years there, wouldn't you think Trump learned a little Russian. I believe this "broke the ice" when Trump met with Putin a few years ago.
The Ukraine was controlled by the Deep State and not the people in Ukraine. Putin invaded to destroy the BioLabs, that was producing these viruses. Made in the Ukraine and shipped to Wuhan. (that way the Deep State could blame China) The Ukraine was about to bring out another virus and Russia stepped in to destroy it. This latest variant and/or monkeypox is just another lie. The Democrats will have no choice but to bring down the grid. Expect riots this year. They won't be able to throw another election. The Swamp IS being drained.

I wonder about this, have discussed it with some of my more "thinking" friends. No way to get a real grip on how crazy Putin and other Russian leaders actually are. One friend pointed out, "Putin has a daughter, is he willing to wipe her out, too?"
I don't know. And nothing that I can say or do will have any impact on what they do, and probably not on what we might do in return.
Observers in these "interesting times". I'm old enough to well remember the Cuban Missile Crisis, and my father and his fighter squadron being moved overnight to the Keys. Scary as heck then, very uncertain now, but doesn't feel quite as "on the edge".
I've started thinking about plans if there is a limited nuclear exchange. Thinking about what that might look like, what might be needed then that I don't already have.
Let's hope we don't get to find out.

Too many people talk about a nuclear war like it could be a tough time. Ha! Tough time? Try end time. Despite millions dying at once, far more would die after the war ends. You need a new definition of survive to think it would be survivable.

I don’t disagree with Trump, but this subject is WAY out of bounds when it comes to politics! Are Ivanka and Jared still advising him? If so, I’m looking for a new candidate to support! They are both awful judges of people to join his admin.! Cmon Mr President! You are better than this crap!

It appears to me the only leader who has gone rogue is Joe Biden. I believe President Trump understood the threat of Russia and knew it was manageable. Putin is no fool, but he knows Biden certainly is. President Trump actually tried to engage our enemies into a conversation. He was very diplomatic whenever he discussed other countries and their own self-interests. He for the most part saved the bombastic comments for the media and our own politicians who were content to wallow in the status quo. They had no interest in protecting this country. They were more concerned with the deals they could make that would put money into their off shore bank accounts. This was the way foreign policy was managed. Trump had another idea. He put this country first and expected other counties to do the same and was willing to begin the discussion at that point. It was mutual self-interest while still be willing to negotiate the best outcome for every nation which he knew would strengthen our relationships around the world. Trump was not the war monger. He wanted to be the peacemaker which is another reason the political class hated him. He absolutely outshined them with this approach.

It is the extreme fear of the consequences of a nuclear war that is the best deterrence. I believe it is more critical than ever to for political leaders to speak out on the topic because we have such a demented and loose cannon in the White House. The head in the sand approach is simply whistling past the graveyard.

and, diapers, you caused it!!! just like you've caused every one of the chaotic events since January, 2021, isn't if kind of suspicious that all those Executive Orders were already waiting for diapers to sign the day of the inauguration? talk about a pre-planned outcome

Agree with ten. Putting your head in the sand and not talking about this potential threat does not make it go away! Liberals are scared to death about nukes, remember how they claimed kids were having nightmares over this topic. Let the liberals go back to their nightmares. The adults will continue with mature dialogue that leads to a reasonable solution- deterrence.

The shadowy cabal that put Biden in office is evil not usually foolish. Their judging the coming election as being beyond the threshold of fraud is the BIGGEST danger we are facing. Now that their sins and means are out in the open, they cannot afford to lose. That could prompt them to use the 'nuclear option'. I am sure that thought is behind what PDT is actually saying.

He still cares about us and I think he is right again. The trash talking about all of Russia is not helping. I don't see any reason writers and ballet dancers and musicians should be banned. The Democrats are hopelessly stupid. And I want to shout out to everybody who put Biden in power, please accept this is your mistake and your incompetence is the foundation of his. Never go outside your lane again You were wrong A to Z Your talents are not what you think they are Pull back. There is a reason for democracy and it is to keep people like you from doing what you just did Trump would not have put the world on the nuclear edge. You did. Admit your error at least quietly and stay in your efing lane from now on. He is going to kick your butt in November and again two years from now. This is because we like him better and that is because he is smarter than you. Accept it.

Re #5. The "it's entirely unsurvivable" idea is ridiculous TV show stuff. In both Hiroshima and Nagasake, huge numbers of people who were NEAR BY, say 5-10 miles, or closer, survived the bomb, and lived to a ripe old age. People 50 or 100 miles away were essentially unaffected if upwind of fallout zones.
American observers were walking in the ruins of nuclear bombed cities within a couple of weeks, and the rubble cleanup and rebuilding started within a few months. Did some people who went there immediately get excessive radiation exposure? Yes, I'm sure some did, but many didn't and lived for decades or more. Today we'd know to stay away from the bombed sites for months or years until they were safe.
History shows that nuclear bombs are very bad to be near, and very bad to go to the site for weeks and months afterwards. But not forever, and not for people upwind, even 10 miles away. Even if every single city in the USA with 1 million population or more were bombed, there would still be huge swaths of countryside unaffected by the blasts and by fallout. Would all the modern conveniences of life become suddenly difficult to obtain? Yes, certainly and that may well cause huge numbers to starve and freeze. And I suppose a lot of defeatists who are absolutely certain that "food comes from the grocery store" and "electricity comes from the wall socket" will just lay down and die.
I won't, and there will be millions like me who won't. People who will figure out some way to pick up whatever pieces are left and start to find ways to live in whatever new reality we are handed. I may fail, but I won't stop trying.

Would Putin and Russia resort to tactical nukes? Maybe, if they met dire straits that would likely include such as Ukrainian forces invading Russian territory and making advances. That brings up the question that has stood out there since this war began...would NATO seize upon this to enter this war, likely led by the USA as "Leader of the Free World"? And then what? A general "mutually assured destruction"-style ICBM demonstration? I have doubts.
