A woman who accidentally dropped her cellphone into the hole of an outhouse in a national forest and fell in while trying to retrieve it had to be rescued by firefighters in Washington state.
Brinnon Fire Department Chief Tim Manly said the woman, who was at the top of Mount Walker in the Olympic National Forest northwest of Seattle, had been using her phone when it fell into the toilet on Tuesday, The Kitsap Sun reported.
Manly said she disassembled the toilet seat and used dog leashes to try and get the phone and eventually used the leashes to tie herself off as she reached for it. That effort failed

These are standardized units, used in National Forests and Parks around the nation - VERY deep. No chance I'd be attempting this save. I can get a new phone.

We lost a new Nikon camera in a port-a-potty at the Rose Parade one year. It stayed there. (I say “we” to protect the camera’s owner. :-)

Put the phone away for a few minutes! Geez! When that phone fell into that honey pit, it was as secure as if it was in a vault at Fort Knox. Nobody was going to get that phone, and the contents of that pit will wipe away whatever data content was on the phone.

If this airhead needs to talk on her cellphone in a privy in a national forest, she needs to get a life. If she is so attached to her phone that she’d risk falling headfirst into a pool of human feces, she should rethink her priorities. She should also see her doctor and get every kind of immunization her doctor can think of. God only knows what kind of microbes found their way into her body.

I wonder when she'll file suit against the National Forest Service for having unsafe toilets.

I think I'd drop a ladder down the hole and when she climbed out start hosing her off - from a distance !
Good Grief ! Put the **** phone DOWN! You are NOT that important, or busy. TAKE A BREAK.
Try a new experience - go to the bathroom WITHOUT your phone !

The ultimate Dirty Job! Lots of ladies keep these oversized phones in the rear pocket of their pants and they stick halfway out - being too long to fit the pockets. Let it Go!! Would be terrible to drown in that stuff.

"I once knew a fellow named Clyde,
Who fell in an outhouse and died;
And likewise his brother, who fell in another
And now they're inturd side by side."
( Wondering if she had a brother name Clyde.)

I hate when that happens. I heard that if you put the phone in a bowl of rice it helps bring it back to working order... no word if the same is true for the woman who went swimming in the toilet...but think of the photos and stories you can post on Face Book.

I would pay to hear that 911 call! The 911 operator on video tape would be Youtube Gold. On the serious side, my $1K "Water Proof" phone isn't worth what she did.

My phone slipped out of my pocket when using the toilet in a bus and it fell in the toilet. When I called my carrier to replace it (fortunately insured) they asked me to return the old phone. The customer service person didn’t quite think about this standard question before she asked it. No, It’s not in my possession. No one else will be using it. No, it can’t be properly refurbished.
