I’ve been assiduously ignoring coverage about the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial. The headlines I’ve seen tell me that it’s incredibly sordid (snip) it seems worthwhile pointing out that Hollywood is a deeply dysfunctional place that has way too much sway over our culture and, worse, over our children. (snip) poor Depp is also the perfect star stereotype: Horrible childhood, limited education, substance abuse, and sexually perverse relationships. On-screen, he’s in control, even if his character is not; off-screen, he married a woman who was famously crazy and vicious and then suffered horribly at her hands because he’s weak and lacks internal resources.

Indeed Andrea, they don’t deserve our hard earned dollars. I do my part in this matter as best as possible.

I haven’t been to a movie theater in over 10 years now. TMC is my salvation. Old Hollywood was messed up too but in comparison to the trash making movies today, those people were saints.

I haven’t followed the trial , I don’t even know what it’s about. I believe they are both twisted but I heard, no proof, that she is cray cray. He should have made it work with his first wife/ girlfriend

Rather than clearing his name with this lawsuit, Depp is outed for the clueless idiot he really is. On the stand, he tries to come off as some cerebral William F Buckley PBS commentator type, but really just sounds like a mumbling fool. Amber Heard is being outed as the spoiled Hollywood shrew many already know her to be. Both deserve to lose the lawsuit.

There are signs that Hollywood has lost some idol worship by many Americans. The ratings collapse of Emmy and Oscar broadcasts is at least a start. Recognition of Hollywood's perversions is one thing that Islamic countries get right. These actors need to be glad WE don't throw their sorry butts off of building tops - yet.

The only Depp movies I’ve seen are two of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Chocolat and Gilbert Grape and none of them was in a theater. From the little that I’ve seen of him, I’ve always thought that he’s batshiite crazy and weird. All of Hollywood, with a handful of exceptions, is just like him. Never heard of his wife. Normally I would not bother with any articles about this trial but I always read whatever Widburg writes.

These are the elite, the lunatics and delusional hypocrites of hollywood. These are the buffoons who live in a fantasy world without consequences. And they prove once again, unscripted they can barely put two coherent sentences together. No morals, no values, no shame. Got it...

Great piece about something I was puzzled to see getting so much play on TV. Live from the courtroom? Seriously? We have enjoyed his “Pirates of the Caribbean” wackiness, but that’s about it. Her craziness is of legend.

the larger message is, for anyone who really gives a crap, they are dysfunctional and yet, most people want to live the kind of life they live? not me, I'm happy in my own dysfunctional way, I don't need them to emulate plus, I don't have the kind of money they have

I tried to watch that show about the lives of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. About the third episode, I realized that I found Fosse and Verdon's lifestyle repugnant. They again proved the idea that talented people think that talent makes them better than other humans, and that excuses them the laws and mores of the society in which they live.
It also showed that rampant drug abuse has been a part of the entertainment world longer than the 1960s. That got me to thinking about other entertainers down through history, and I've decided that the ancient Romans were right in believing actors/entertainers were a danger to society. This was an attitude found in most societies (that had something like "actors") worldwide and down through history.
I went online and looked at Fosse and Verdon's famous original performances and they seem dated and really, kind of silly. "Jazz hands", give me a break. Not that I was ever able to watch "Damn Yankees" from beginning to end or "Cabaret" past the age of 30.
(And why does Johnny Depp look like he's in a modern re-make of "The Godfather"?)

I liked Johnny Depp in 'Donnie Brasco' but that was more than 20 years ago. Decades of too many drugs, booze, bad women, and poor financial decisions have taken their toll. He will not win the lawsuit.

I'm surprised that a few attorneys on Fox offered an opinion that Depp won, based on direct examination. They should know better.
Depp was beat up pretty well on the cross examination that has taken place so far, and tomorrow will not be any better.
Amber Heard will also take a beating on cross, especially since she was involved in some sort of domestic violence a few years back, with her lesbian partner. (I'm, surprised that everyone has been silent about her lesbianism.
Depp and Heard have one child which was created via a surrogate.
Just imagine the aggressive lawyer, on cross, asking Heard, "Is it true, Ms. Heard, that you used a surrogate to create your child with Mr,. Depp, because the heterosexual sex act disgusts you, and that you prefer cunnilingus with a woman?" " Or the use of a Hilldo?"
Objection! Sustained. I withdraw the question.
Now unring that bell with the jury,

Depp and Heard are just the latest revolting Hollywood couple. If you're a fan of "old Hollywood", do not read the NYPost's article on the book “Truly, Madly: Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier and the Romance of the Century”. Their so-called love letters are last century's sexting, not exactly romantic and not something the public really needs to read.

Before Hollyweird, most people knew that actors were strumpets and vagabonds. Some actors were honest about it. The late Victor Mature, upon hearing that his application to join a country club had been rejected because of his profession, told the membership committee “I’m no actor - I’ve got 17 movies to prove it!”
We're just rediscovering a basic truth.

Like much of Hollywood, Johnny's life is one marked by bad decision after bad decision. He is an object lesson for the young and aware. Sure, I feel for Johnny but some talented people just seem to want to publicly self destruct and they do a fine job of it. But I hope that he learns from all this and turns things around. He is a good and genuinely fun actor to watch. His characters are unique and he makes them live. Far better than most "actors" out there nowadays.

I feel bad for Depp in that, yes, while he is a narcissist and likes his vices, I do believe that he has never hurt anyone and Amber Heard is a gold-digging whore who saw an easy target in Depp. I genuinely believe that he did love and care for her, and only later found that he'd been taken for the proverbial ride. I remember watching an episode of Overhaulin' (a show where custom car designed Chip Foose remakes a dingy car into a jawdropping showpiece) where Depp had Foose give Heard's pos Form Mustang into a piece of rolling art powered by a Coyote 500 hp engine. It doesn't seem to fit the MO of an abuser. Yeah he's a hot mess but it doesn;t make him deserving of this Harpie.
