Steve has started a midterm wipeout watch series that I hope will have many more installments, culminating in November. I want to note this piece by a Democrat who warns his fellow Democrats that the wipeout likely will extend well beyond 2022.
The author is Simon Bazelon, just a kid but a kid who can do arithmetic. He argues that even if the Democrats are able to maintain their average edge in popular vote over the next two cycles, Republicans are likely to gain strong control over the Senate:
Overall, the combination of decreasing incumbency advantage and a poor national environment for Democrats means we should probably expect Democrats

Let's not get over confident. The Dems might be incompetent running the country, but they are masters at cheating.

Wide open borders + mail in ballots + vote harvesting = democrat wins.

Sinema is a shoo-in. Even I, who was a big McSally supporter, will be voting for her.

Don't under estimate the power of the establishment republicans to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. They hate Trump just as much as the democrats.

But the Democrats have the DOJ, the FBI, the CIA, the unions, the entire education system, the MSM, and the federal bureaucracy in general working for them. Together, they constitute a ruling elite to rival the vile aristocratic class that kept its foot on the neck of Europe for centuries. I'm not sure they actually need to win elections any more.

In war, which this is, what the losers do is not as important as what the winners do. I feel funny calling republicans winners given their recent performance.

There is a cycle to American politics. The Democrats get into power and push their socialist programs down everyone's throat and when their failures mount up, the voters kick them out of office. The Republicans take over on the promise of undoing the damage the other party caused and end up doing very little. The frustrated voters then kick the Republicans out and the Democrats are back in power. Repeat, Rinse, Repeat.

There will be no “dem wipeout”. The Deep State Tyrant Class will not permit it. If the republicant wing of the tyrant vulture wins an election, they will do what they have always done: nothing. Trees, bridges, lampposts, rope. Lots of rope. If you don’t agree, I pray your chains rest lightly upon you.

This prediction reminds me of "The Avengers: Endgame". Thanos says "I am inevitable.", snaps his fingers to kill half the people in the universe, AND NOTHING HAPPENS because Iron Man had taken the Infinity Stones. Thanos and all his minions are then obliterated.
Dems have been predicting their inevitability for decades. However, being horribly bad at math, the dems fail to recognize the odds are against them, as pointed out in this article.
Also figured into their "inevitability", as the proportion of minorities rises, the dems assume that THEY will be the only beneficiaries of their votes. The dems have become so despicable that minorities, being smarter than the dems give them credit for, are NOT in lockstep with them.
An additional factor is the progressive power grab of control of the dem party. The progressives are the loudest and most aggressive portion of the dem party and make up perhaps 50% of the party. The progressives believe in Socialism/Communism although most of them hide from those truthful labels. But the progressives only make up 25% of the electorate. Most Republicans are solidly against them. Even the other half of the dem party is disturbed by the progressives. If the progressive policies were successful it might be a different story but Socialism fails, spectacularly, wherever it is tried. Progressive leaders are loud and aggressive but also often stupid, as is evident in the dem leadership. BO was a shrewd manipulator of public opinion. Biden needs to be led around on a leash. But even BO couldn't have survived the mess that the current administration has made. 8.5% inflation! Defunding police. Border disaster. COVID bungling. Afghanistan mess. Ukraine bumbling. Placing idiots like Kerry, Buttigieg, and many other in important positions. And public opinion laying the blame at Biden's feet.
Progressives think that Americans are stupid and will follow them blindly over the cliff. That doesn't look it is going to happen.

The demosluts will try and cheat, but this time, there will be eyes on everything. I suspect the number of poll watchers as well as average citizens leaning Republican will be out in huge numbers questioning everything that's going on.

Dems have earned a wipeout.
Will GOP be timid and squander their advantage a la Paul Ryan?

This has gotta be the 20th time in the last 40-50 years I've read about the impending implosion of one of the two main US political parties.
Maybe some day, those predictions will come true, but to date, they've been o-fer on accuracy.
As a previous poster wrote, the parties tend to correct themselves. If they pull too far one way, they will self correct. Admittedly, things are a little crazier now than in the past, but I expect history to repeat itself. Could take a little longer this time.
And anyway, the Republicans are sure to mess up a sure thing.

Why in the world would you do that, #4? Turned Dem? She is a reliable Dem vote on 95% or more of their destructive policies....and a (presumably, by posting here) "conservative" would voter for her....without even knowing who the opponent might be?
