Gov. Kathy Hochul rushed to the microphones Tuesday to reassure New Yorkers following the Brooklyn subway shootings. She should’ve stood in bed. Out tumbled a jumble of half-thoughts, unfocused and haltingly delivered, underscoring what has been apparent for some time now — which is that New York’s latest accidental governor would be out of her depth in a Buffalo mud puddle. Which, in a manner of speaking, is where she came from. Hochul’s horrible day also included news that her handpicked, staunchly defended lieutenant governor, Brian Benjamin, had just been arrested on federal corruption charges. Benjamin would be gone by day’s end, of course, but the matter will linger.

The Republican-led Kentucky General Assembly voted handily Wednesday to override Gov. Andy Beshear’s veto of a bill that opponents say will effectively end abortion access in the commonwealth.
Among the restrictions imposed by House Bill 3, a sweeping anti-abortion omnibus bill from Rep. Nancy Tate, R-Brandenburg, it bans the distribution of abortion pills by mail, raises standards for minors seeking an abortion, and mandates the creation of a new and expansive certification and monitoring system to track details of all abortions administered in the state and the physicians who provide them.
The FBI got walloped last week when a Michigan jury concluded that the bureau had entrapped two men accused of plotting to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Those men and others were arrested a few weeks before the 2020 election in a high-profile, FBI-fabricated case that Joe Biden claimed showed President Trump’s “tolerance of hate, vengeance, and lawlessness to plots such as this one.” But the jury verdict exposes how the feds have created the monsters they parade to vindicate their vast power over Americans.
Michigan was a swing state in the 2020 election. When the arrests were announced, Whitmer speedily denounced Trump for inciting “domestic terrorism.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Wednesday single-handedly wiped out the Democrats’ national gerrymandering advantage by proposing a map that eliminates constitutional infirmities.
Subject to the legislature’s approval and likely court challenges, the map will destroy all the hard work Democrats’ redistricting machine has created throughout the last months. The DeSantis-proposed map will yield 20 red districts and 8 blue ones.
Last month Republican establishment House Speaker Chris Sprowls (R) and Senate President Wilton Simpson (R) bucked DeSantis’s original map that would have generated 20 red and 8 blue districts. Instead, the lawmakers passed and submitted a subpar map to DeSantis

Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy on Thursday.
The new legislation will go into effect on July 1. The Florida House voted 78-39 almost entirely along party lines to pass the law in February, while the Senate passed the bill in March.
The bill allows exemptions for women who face life-threatening or serious injuries from pregnancy, or if the fetus has a fatal defect.
“House Bill 5 protects babies in the womb who have beating hearts, who can move, who can taste, who can see, and who can feel pain,” DeSantis said in a press release. “Life is a sacred gift worthy of our protection
Tesla CEO Elon Musk offered to buy Twitter in a deal worth more than $43 billion and take the social media company private.
Musk’s best and final offer was to pay $54.20 per share for 100% of Twitter, and said that if his offer was not accepted he’d have to reconsider his position as a shareholder, according to an SEC filing. Musk recently disclosed a 9.2% stake in Twitter, but he rejected an offer to join its board of directors and criticized the social media platform in tweets. Russia has admitted that the flagship of its Black Sea Fleet - the Moskva - was in flames on Thursday, with Ukraine claiming to have hit it with missiles.
Russia's defence ministry said the Moskva missile cruiser had been badly damaged after ammunition on board was blown up by the fire.
In comments reported by Tass news agency, the ministry said: "As a result of a fire on the Moskva missile cruiser, ammunition detonated."
The crew, believed to number around 500, were all saved, they added.
The statement did not say what had caused the initial fire, saying it was under investigation.
