The FDA's Food Failure

Original Article

Posted By: Daria, 4/10/2022 6:38:47 PM

By the time FDA officials figured out it was spinach that was making people sick in 10 states – sending three people into kidney failure – it was too late. It was mid-November 2021 and the packaged salad’s short shelf life had passed. There was no recall. By the time FDA officials got inspectors on the ground, spinach season was over. The fields and the production facilities were empty, which made it impossible to pinpoint the source of contamination. Whatever caused the outbreak was likely never fixed.

This is long, but worth reading. A surprisingly excellent piece of investigative journalism by Politico.

Is there any area of Government that remains efficient and trustworthy?! Every day more failures surface. Where are the former employees of integrity? As it is, the, 'mob,' of statist politicos are running everything into the ground.

Aha! More evidence for my belief that vegetables are evil. A vegetable has not knowingly passed my lips since I was four years old. (I say "knowingly" because I had friends in college who liked to camouflage them in foods I would eat. Fascists!) I am healthy, and TK says I'm the strongest woman he's ever known. I can throw lumber around with the best of them! God gave mankind the intelligence to come up with multi-vitamins. We don't need to scrounge plants for needed nutrients. Stop with the nasty stuff - its not necessary. Stand up! Eat meat! /rant over

In a recent Detroit News opinion piece, Governor Gretchen Whitmer opined that she released her Fiscal Year 2023 budget - a budget bolstered by nearly $5 billion in federal funds left over from prior COVID relief.Despite her political talking points, Governor Whitmer’s budget isn’t a reflection of savvy negotiations or sound business principles - she’s merely playing Santa Claus with federal giveaway dollars in an attempt to salvage Michigan’s economy after her policies devastated our small businesses and workers.

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Garrett Soldano unveiled a set of transparency and anti-corruption proposals that might sound familiar to Michigan Democrats. Soldano, a Kalamazoo chiropractor, said his “Michigan Sunshine 2.0″ platform is modeled after reforms Gov. Gretchen Whitmer supported as a 2018 candidate but hasn’t delivered on. It’s also a response to sexual harassment and ethics investigations facing former House Speaker Lee Chatfield, a Republican who left the chamber due to term limits in 2021.

Washington — Starting Saturday, private health insurers will be required to cover up to eight home COVID-19 tests per month for people on their plans. The Biden administration announced the change Monday as it looks to lower costs and make testing for the virus more convenient amid rising frustrations. Under the new policy, first detailed to the AP, Americans will be able to either purchase home testing kits for free under their insurance or submit receipts for the tests for reimbursement, up to the monthly per-person limit.

Princeton University in New Jersey will forbid students from leaving the school’s host county once the new semester starts due to rising COVID-19 concerns. Barring “extraordinary circumstances,” students can’t venture beyond Mercer County and Plainsboro Township beginning on Jan. 8 through at least Feb. 15. The restriction does not apply to sports teams. Citing a surge in COVID-19 cases, the school delayed the return of students to the Ivy League school by a week.

I fooled around and fell in love. No, not that kind of “in love.” Guys like me who marry up don’t make that mistake if they know what’s good for them. No, I fell in love . . . with a puppy. And since I lost him a few days ago, there’s a hole in my heart this Christmas. My friend Jonah Goldberg is about the best writer I know. With that kind of touched-by-God talent, you would think the first thing he’d want you to know about him is that he’s a writer.

In the latest edition of the theater of the absurd, White House COVID coordinator, Jeff Zientz, had some “stark” words for the untouchables, i.e., the unvaccinated masses. At the December 17 press briefing, Zientz commented on the incoming Omicron wave, sounding rather ominous and depressing, “. . . the Omicron variant is more transmissible and our medical experts anticipate it will lead to a rise in cases,” said Zientz. “But unlike last winter, we now have the power to protect ourselves. We are intent on not letting Omicron disrupt work and school for the vaccinated. You’ve done the right thing, and we will get through this.

Mollie Hemingway has written a blockbuster book about all the strands of deception and falsehoods that converged to take down Donald Trump on Nov. 3 and 4 and beyond (and before) in her book: Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech and the Democrats Seized Our Elections (Regnery, 2021). I twice asked two Barnes and Noble stores in two weeks whether they had it in stock, and each time -- no. So I finally had to order it online. It has ten chapters, plus a prologue and an epilogue. The total number of endnotes is 1,243 (I added them up), many having extensive commentaries.

This year marked the 25th anniversary of my arrival in the United States, and as the cliché goes, it feels like yesterday. Memories of war and life in a refugee camp penetrate my consciousness daily. The life of cruel suffering, being witness to genocide, and struggles as a refugee and later as an immigrant are part of my ontological makeup. Such events change you in previously unimaginable ways—fostering emotional strength but also existential fatigue. I left Bosnia at the end of 1992, almost a year into the war.

"We cannot pump it anywhere because it just comes right back into the freeway." I-94 is still flooded from east Dearborn to east of I-75.

The Biden administration on Thursday unveiled hundreds of strategies across several federal agencies aimed at addressing what it says is racial and gender inequity in the federal government. A senior administration official said the initiative is the first major assessment of how government policies have allowed “inequality to fester,” including ways they said the government has blocked underserved communities from government services. “This is about getting under the hood in every agency,” the official said. The plan outlines more than 300 different strategies and commitments by more than 90 federal agencies, including the Justice, Defense, Energy and Labor departments. But dictators like Putin and demagogues like Trump have demonstrated how naive that assumption was. At least the US responded to Trump’s lies. Trump had 88 million Twitter followers before Twitter took him off its platform – just two days after the attack on the Capitol, which he provoked, in part, with his tweets. Edna Mahan houses 27 transgender prisoners, and over 800 women altogether. It is also unclear how far along the two inmates are, and whether they plan to continue with their respective pregnancies. Tony Dungy, the first black coach ever to win a Super Bowl, might have escaped notice this week had he merely supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s “Responsible Fatherhood Initiative.” His real sin was to explain why. Dungy, a Christian father or eleven, recounted a conversation he had years back with the Rev. Abe Brown about Brown’s prison ministry. At Brown’s request, Dungy accompanied him to prison. Expecting to find hardened criminals, Dungy found instead “19- and 20- and 21-year-old kids who looked like my boys.” When Dungy asked what accounted for the young men’s incarceration, Brown told him, “(snip) Ninety-five percent of these boys did not grow up with their dad.”

President Joe Biden’s latest speech, it appears, was one for the birds. At least it seemed that way, as the somewhat hapless commander-in-chief gave what was meant to be a rousing speech and pep rally in Iowa on Tuesday. It was difficult to miss what appeared to be the projectile of avian fecal matter that scored a direct hit on the president’s left lapel. Although, after much mockery, the White House has given clarification on the supposed flying mystery substance that many aren’t buying.
