On social media, some disturbing maps have circulated showing the globe in terms of which nations have sanctioned Russia over her invasion of Ukraine. Bolivian writer Ollie Vargas posted this map, which makes clear that sanctions in Russia are seen as an absolute must in Europe, the English-speaking world, Japan, and South Korea. Everywhere else, President Biden's requests for economic war against Russia have been rejected. (snip) Most depressing is the fact that a lot of the world just doesn't believe us. They don't have a lot of reason to believe us because the Biden administration got caught in quite a few recent lies.

Sadly, we’re the baddies and have been for a while. But our target this time isn’t a 60 lb. weakling, regardless of how the rancid press portrays them.

The rest of the world is coming to the realization that with friends like the United States who needs enemies. Our hubris along with the idea and pursuit of Global Governance with the United States as the leader does not sit well. Western Europe along with it leaders have bowed down as slaves and colonies to the US decades ago and suffer from Stockholm syndrome. Biden's mental incompetence and weakness have opened the door for other countries to give the big middle finger to him and the United States.

The US has no coherent foreign policy. No one can explain its goals and benefits over the long term. It's not anti-Communism, or much anything else except a bunch of Cold War/War on Terror slogans stitched together in defense of "democracy"...like restoring the Emir in Kuwait. The American public has been propagandized for more than a century regarding "anarchy" and its successors, like communism...and it turns ever back on the Russians, those ever mysterious strongmen. Today's "foreign policy" has the clear look of profiteering in many ways. The US government buys a huge amount of hardware and props up economies and governments both domestic and foreign. What would Kileen, Texas, be without Fort Hood? How much US military power is invested in the Middle East to defend sheiks and at least one kingdom? How much hardware and expertise do we transfer to our "allies"? And then there is Asia...Korea, Japan, and spreading to Australia and New Zealand. In short, the US is everywhere "defending freedom". And our allies wither under the US defense umbrella as they do little lifting in the effort. Maybe they just don't feel terribly threatened. Look at a map and circle Russia's global military allies. Do the same for China. You won't see many circles. Russia can't do much as apparently illustrated in Ukraine. China is buying its friends with Belt and Road...while the US pees away resources on its muscle, now again pushing the two-front warfighting nonsense in a MAD nuclear world. Even occasional word of a draft returning. We are back in the 19th Century. We should be heeding the Farewell advice of George Washington to avoid perpetual alliances and foreign intrigues. But we can't seem to help ourselves. There's too much $$$ at stake forgoing our Leadership of the Free Loaders. Let's talk about democracy at home, America First, and MAGA in that context.

Very long, but good article. FTA: The difference between 1823 and 2022 is stark, however. In 1823, the republics wanted to stay on good terms with the United States and build their countries up as best as they could. In 2022, they look at America and see her led by someone they don't respect. The problem for President Biden is that he inherits all the debts and guilt that come with two hundred years of Monroe's doctrine while he possesses none of the strength or political know-how to put it in motion. That's a problem he may never solve. The Biden Corollary might simply be to lose everything,

The law of unintended consequences comes

Back in 1967, the Reedy Creek Improvement District agreement was created to lure Disney to Florida. The agreement allows the district governmental powers to facilitate recreational projects and tourism. Florida's legislature felt that it would benefit the state if recreational organizations had the power to act as their own government in areas like property development, water control, public utilities, law enforcement, and fire protection. The mouse eagerly took the cheese, and today most of the land is owned by Walt Disney World. It's been a pretty sweet deal (snip) Now Florida legislators are threatening to pull those special privileges if Disney continues to strike at HB1557

Few brands are more valuable than that owned by the shareholders of The Walt Disney Company, one that now is being shattered.. In 2020, Forbes rated it as number seven in the world in value. But I think this may actually understate the standing of the Disney brand. Few people would want to take a vacation at a Google resort or take a Microsoft cruise, but the allure of Disney’s brand is enough to attract vacationers from all over the world. Disney theme parks exist in the United States (2), France, China (2), and Japan, and these attract visitors from many other countries, many bringing their children along

In the final days before what appeared to be a neck-and-neck 1980 election, Republican Ronald Reagan landed a haymaker against President Carter by asking a simple question: "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" Americans were not, and Reagan ended up beating the incumbent Democrat in a drubbing — carrying forty-four states, taking 489 electoral votes (snip) As we near what looks like his return to battle for the 2024 election, though, a potent six-word slogan reminiscent of Reagan's rhetorical thwack is inescapable: Were you better off with Trump?

For someone who is a member of the bar and was a longtime chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, President Biden demonstrated a shocking lack of understanding of what it means for a Justice of the Supreme Court to recuse him- or herself. It almost has to be his dementia, which is now so self-evident in his public appearances. He was asked in his press conference yesterday (all 12 minutes and 46 seconds of it) if Justice Thomas should recuse himself from any case involving the January 6 “insurrection” (the word that the reporter used) because of something his wife texted. He said that he would leave that to “two entities,”

Today, unquestionably serious cardiovascular, thrombotic and neurologic adverse events related to the vaccine have occurred around the world. The FDA’s own vaccine adverse event tracking system (the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System or VAERS) shows substantial and serious risks from the vaccine, even though the FDA only collects an estimated 10% of all adverse events. Still, federal agencies and manufacturers aren’t officially warning the American public about these risks, despite having been privy to this information for almost a whole year. Why? Because it would counter the narrative that taking endless vaccines and boosters is your patriotic duty.

From the beginning of the COVID pandemic starting two years ago, we have heard conflicting and often nonsensical recommendations from those charged with knowing better and leading the country through the biggest public health crisis that most of us have ever experienced. (snip) the vaccines, we were told, would stop transmission and infection with COVID until we learned that they did neither, only reducing the severity of illness and risk of death. In the U.K. for example, last month 80-90 percent of COVID deaths were among the vaccinated, although the “fact checkers” are eager to claim “misinterpretation” or “lack of context.” Nothing is permitted to interfere with the preferred narrative.
What’s happening to the Marines? 21 replies

Lately, when we think about what’s happening to America’s military under Biden, we’ve been focusing on the Pentagon’s obsessions with race, LGBTQ+++ issues (especially transgenderism), women’s rights, and political “wrong think” (i.e., conservativism). That obsession has consistently put progressive social policy ahead of military cohesion and readiness. However, Jim Webb, who was a Marine infantry officer while in Vietnam, then the Navy secretary under Ronald Reagan and, lastly, a Virginia senator during the Obama years, has written an op-ed about a different concern: The potentially damaging, purely operational changes Marine commandment Gen. David Berger intends to impose on the Corps.

While many have criticized the current enthusiasm for judging the past by the standards of the present (and condemning those past leaders who did not meet them), few have noted how many currently dominant beliefs are totally disconnected from reality and have a profoundly destructive impact. I propose to discuss two of them here: ideas about the nature of mental illness which have produced what Charles Krauthammer called “an army of broken souls foraging and freezing in the streets” and the conviction that our planet is in existential danger from human-induced climate change. The latter has led to a wholly unwarranted, hugely expensive crusade to eliminate fossil fuels.

Even before Ketanji Brown Jackson's extraordinary statement that she does not know what a woman is, I'd concluded that she's a dim bulb and, really, the judicial equivalent of Kamala Harris: an uninspiring Black woman who's floated effortlessly upward through affirmative action and fealty to leftism. I'd spent the day mentally writing an attack on her, only to see Tucker Carlson hold forth with an incendiary monologue that attacked her "I'm not a biologist" lunacy, the whole transgender madness that the left is advancing, and the real agenda of remaking society in an ugly way, especially through the death of free speech.

One of the things that makes life easy for true conservatives is that their principles are fixed so they don’t often get tripped up on their past stands. That’s not true for leftists, for whom the ends always justify the means, so the means can do a 180 in an instant. When one enterprise New York Times reporter tried to attack Candace Owens as a Russian stooge for repeating Russian propaganda about Ukraine, Owens politely, and helpfully (very helpfully) explained that all her information about Ukraine came from...the New York Times.

Two years ago, far-left California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, established a task force with the assigned mission of examining slavery reparations. From the beginning, it was clear that the outcome from the task force wasn’t going to be if it would recommend reparations, that was a foregone conclusion. The only question was to whom such reparations should be given. On Tuesday, that task force finally made their recommendation, and they may also have given a hint that whatever steps were to be taken would only be the beginning. After a lengthy debate and prior to holding the actual vote, the vice-chair of the task force,

"This record release will provide a historic amount of supply to serve as bridge until the end of the year when domestic production ramps up," the White House said. President Biden is expected to formally announce the move at a White House event Thursday afternoon.

This is why the people do it. You can stand outside your own door, with many people in the street, and you’re still not safe.”
