Minnesotans would be protected from discrimination based on how they wear their hair under a bill the House passed Monday. The so-called CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, adds a definition of race that is inclusive of natural hairstyles and textures to the Minnesota Human Rights Act. It's an effort to break down barriers that Black Minnesotans face at work, school and in other public spaces for wearing hairstyles such as braids, locs and twists. The bill "will clearly define that no one should be prevented from a job or an education because of the way that their hair naturally grows

How about banning discrimination based on political affiliation? Conservatives can be treated the way blacks used to be treated and it's considered justified and protected discrimination.

What are "these people" doing? I mean usually hair fads are popular and then the popularity goes away. And I ask, someone has too much time on their hands to "worry" about hair?

Good golly, but it seems skin color is also an indication of how thick it ain't. We long ago castrated men for complementing our nice clothes, yet some random woman-of-color somewhere simply melted because a pale female supervisor suggested changing her hair. I could have responded to that well enough without uttering a single word, or at the very least, just a few well chose ones (it's called: standing up for myself) but I guess there are those for which nothing less than a multi-page mandated law will do.

Natural hair, sure. But most of the times I find somebody's hair off-putting are things that the wearer went far out of their way to torture into bizarre colors and/or shapes.

Hey, if you want to wear your hair in a stone age style, go right ahead! It's what's under the hair that counts, though usually that matches the hair style!

Less than one in 100.000 people wear their hair the way it naturally grows. Probably a lot less. My natural hair is beautiful, but a lot of trouble, so I keep it short and stylish. If i cut it it isn't natural. If I dye it it isn't natural. If i curl it more or straighten it it wont be natural. If I clean it is it natural? Dayum, these Statist idiots need the stockades.

When my brother was first married, he moved with his family to Minnesota from the East Coast, and I remember he went pheasant hunting for the first time in his life. His wife bought him a really beautiful gun for hunting for Christmas. Long time ago, and they've left the state, but my image of Minnesota now is not the same. (Just making a simple observation, that's all.)

You really can't make this stuff up. Too many blacks sport ridiculous and ugly hairstyles that people make fun of. Some whites also....purple hair and ugly spikes. The Ukraine is in flames, inflation is running out of control, we have two loose cannons 'leading' the two biggest nuclear powers on the planet, and these morons are worried about funky, ugly hairstyles/

The article says you can't discriminate against someone for how their hair grows naturally. Fine. I agree that you should not discriminate against an afro type style as that is how a Black person hair may grow. However, things like big braids, extensions, and dreadlocks are not "natural". They may be cultural, but they are not natural. I should not have to accommodate hip hop hair styles at my factory that may present safety issues like getting caught in machinery. The person can keep their hair up and covered or get their style changed. OSHA doesn't care that someone was wearing their hair in a culturally and ethnically cool style when their scalp was pulled off by a machine at a factory.
