What exactly has happened to the formerly must-read Drudge Report?
It may seem like yesterday to old Washington hands, but it was actually more than a quarter-century ago that a manager of a gift shop in a television network building in greater Hollywood, a 20-something with a thirst for movie star gossip, signaled the end of the establishment media’s chokehold on the American public. He started an amateurishly formatted website featuring links to important but under-the-radar online articles, to go along with his own mysteriously obtained scoops.
It was, let us never forget, Matt Drudge who broke the Monica Lewinsky

Maybe Drudge is living with David Brock, another conservative turncoat.

I'm willing to bet he got tempted into an indiscretion, blackmailed into selling the report, and sits in his mother's basement cursing his life.

I used to read in every morning online like I do Lucianne now, until they started going left and turned into just another liberal lying rag. I finally couldn't take it any more and ditched it.

I have no idea why he turned into CNN and the rest of the liberal scum (huge check?), but I found...thelibertydaily'' dot com and they picked up where Drudge used to be. There's still some truth out there.

The Drudge Report is dead. I noticed that it had cancer a few years ago, and when the pro-left slant became very obvious, i removed it from my bookmarks. When I first learned about it decades ago, I Googled "Drudge Report" and it was not listed, just references to the kind of work the Corps of Engineers were doing. Like poster #4, there was a time when it was a traditional morning visit, just like Lucianne. This article really doesn't add any solid information about how or why the DR changed, or an update on Matt--it only gives broad speculation about that. But, I no longer think about the Drudge Report, but sure am thankful that over the decades I can visit my friend Lucianne and my L-dotter friends via my keyboard every morning.

I will be forever grateful to Drudge because, one day in 1998, I chanced to click on a link to Lucianne.com on his home page and have been here ever since.
All along there have been rumors that Drudge is a homosexual and I remember reading that he had hooked up with a new partner who was a lefty and who turned him. No idea if it’s true but I haven’t been to his website in many years.

I used to go there regularly, similar to #8 that's where I found my way to Lucianne.com. Then I used to go there as I have other sites to see what those with whom I tend to disagree are reading which I feel a responsibility to do. Then after reading that by going there even to see the train wreck it was a hit on the site implying a level of popularity, I stopped almost entirely. I think I have been there twice in the past three years.

Like poster #8, I found this site and many others courtesy of links on Drudge's page. Also, like others here, I noticed the change in the reporting around the 2016 presidential campaign and eventually deleted the link from my bookmarks.
However, Lucianne remains my first stop for news in the morning as I enjoy my coffee.

I always viewed DR as too glitzy gossip type reporting. My wife would go there first for everything, but I strayed off when the DR first displayed 'Trump bashing'. Donald Trump brought out the worst in liberal people Drudge fell victim. Today we are inundated with trash writing and attempted reporting. Notice how writing is shallow with all the tweets as writing trashy and ugly but Drudge was an early pioneer of trashiness. Bless you Drudge but you are so 1990s yesterday just go away.

Aside from a snapshot of the weekend's avoidance of Durham news, this story brings us nothing new. We've read "What Happened to Matt Drudge?" stories for three years at least!!"
Still waiting for reporting on what really happened to Matt and why he seemed to have stopped handpicking stories to link, and wryly rewriting their headlines.

It was my go to page until it turned. I liked the minimal design of all links no pictures. Occasionally some oddball stories, but lots of good stuff and links to good writers.

Drudge forgot who visited the site and bit the hand that fed it. It was a go to site for every conservative. Then it went anti-Trump, and that was the end of the Drudge Report.

Like many here, my mornings began with coffee, Drudge, and Lucianne. But I too noticed his compass went off-course with the emergence of Trump. But I’m here to share the trusty news aggregate TheLibertyDaily dot.com with you. Hat tip to other fellow LDotters for the suggestion. Thank you! Now it’s coffee, Lucianne, and Liberty.

Anyone remember Little Green Footballs? The exact same thing keeps happening - a formerly sane website/personality defects to the left and fades into obscurity. The prior supporters aren't going to forget the deception, and the left will never trust someone who wasn't always one of them.

Not sure how I came to discover this site - it's been something like 20 years or so back when Zurich Mike, Aggie, Pomom, etc were posters. Anyway, as for Drudge, seems many who have conservative strengths aren't that strong in those beliefs. Look at Ted Olson, Carrie dpi the late great Barbarian Olson. After her death, he marries some liberal woman and his political beliefs went left.

Drudge might have broken the story, but it was our very own hostess who gave Linda Tripp the advice to hang onto that dress if Monica wanted to stay alive. I think after Breitbart died under suspicious circumstances, Drudge lost a lot of his fight. He very well could have sold his site for millions, and be living in secure comfort somewhere private. After all he has done to keep America informed, he has the right to live how he wants to. IIRC, Breitbart interned for Drudge before he set up his own site too.

Re #8. I met Matt back in the 90s, in a quiet social setting, and he was extremely shy, impossible to engage in conversation. I could easily believe your comment on his sexual preference, looking back. What you suggest may be the correct explanation. But even though I 'met him".....it isn't like I learned anything at all about him other than he's very shy, and even when standing by himself in a room full of people.....is alone, and would talk to nobody. Very odd person.

It used to be that the only "News Aggregation" showing any conservative perspective was the Sunday morning shout shows. In print there was only The Washington Times weekly edition, Drudge took the same or similar stories and made them Daily, online, free, and updated as they occurred..and boomed as people started joining into the Digital Revolution.(Newt was a YUUUUGE Promoter/proponent of the WWW/digital age). It was my 1st stop every morning, checked back in during the Day. Once she opened for Business, Lucianne was next stop...and was one of the 1st with readers responses/discussion for every story, and there were some VERY SMART folks here in those early days, high level folks in media/govt/academia/think tanks/political insiders/Campaign people using NomdePlumes. Ace of Spades became stop #3. Eventually individual Facebook groups/pages/closed groups sort of supplanted and replaced much of the hourly traffic, but...January 12 last year I got permabanned from all Social Media. Now my day starts with #1 MallardFillmore,#2 DaybyDay(cartoons),#3 Lucianne,#4 AceofSpades...Then My Emails.
Drudge is still on the bookmarks list, but seldom ever visited.About the only time I click over is if there is a breaking News "Bombshell" so Out of Habit I go there for extra sources...seldom to be found anymore, many times it isn't covered/mentioned at all. Once it is? NYT/WAPO/MSNBC style slanted sources.. not Straight, certainly not conservative. His link list used to be the definitive source for alternative news/columnists/bloggers. No more.

There was an article a couple of years ago where a reporter tracked down the elusive Matt Drudge for an interview. He found him living on a private acreage in Florida, and, after all, he became quite wealthy from his Internet News Aggregation site over some 20 years... although I dropped his site from my daily reads 3 years ago when he became fixated on sex robots.
He was rumored to be homosexual and #8's theory is the most plausible here... a true sellout;

I never thought that Drudge was a pure conservative. He just knew that by taking the conservative side on most issues, he gained millions of followers (and the profits that came with that).
But he is a sodomite, and sadly I think someone finally got something on him that forced him to change his tune. As drastic as his chance was, I'm guessing it could have involved photos of him doing nasty things to young boys. But that is just a guess!!! No accusation, but it had to have been something on that level to get him to risk losing everything he built.
I used to look at Drudge probably 20 times a day to check on the headlines. I haven't been to his site in years. Hopefully the well-known mantra -- go woke, go broke -- has hit home for him!!!

I must be an early adopter as I stopped going to that site at least fifteen years ago. About the time I realized the type of stories I wasn't reading about any more. I would read about them in these few conservative sites and no place else. Good and interesting stories. It didn't take long to pin down those major news sites and how they swung. Never looked back.
Visit here every day without fail. Sometimes I read the stories but always read every comment. Every one !!
