It’s easy to imagine that most Republican voters approved of former Vice President Mike Pence. They must have appreciated his loyalty to a president very different than himself. At times, Mike seemed the perfect V.P. But when it came to what was his most important responsibility as President of the Senate, Pence did not rise to the occasion, which was the certification of the 2020 presidential election on January 6, 2021.On February 4, New York Post ran “Mike Pence says Trump ‘wrong’ about ‘un-American’ idea to overturn election” that reported on an event held that very day: “I heard this week that President Trump said

He refused his constitutional duty out of either cowardice or collusion. He gave a green light for the election of an Administration so incompetent that America is at its weakest since... practically never.
All the States wanted to do was verify why and to what end, curious irregularities occurred. Since then, evidence of massive multi-fauceted fraud has been discovered, and we now have reason to believe that the American electorates will was totally usurped. This is a treason beyond all others.

John Eastman came to the same conclusion. Pence should have listed the multitude of direct U S and state constitutional law violations and the failures of the courts by ignoring sworn affidavits of fraud in the thousands by at least 6 states. A rock solid case could have been made from Pences perch to save America. But I believe Pence is NOT an honorable person. Within days of Trumps administration Pence lied and threw General Flynn to the waiting wolves. He will forever be the coward that he has proven to be.

This is the first I’ve heard of the theory that a VP could refuse to open any states votes. Had anyone ever advanced this theory prior to 1/6/22? It’s a good faith question. I’d like to know. Anybody know?

If the President actually had that kind of power, we would have had a 'President Al Gore' back in the 2000 election.

I would actually prefer Kamala over Pence as Vice President. But then I’d prefer my chihuahua over Pence. Who knew one man could single-handedly bring the country to its knees?

Pence only fell short if the context of serving the republic guided by constitutional law. Once you accept that he was serving the hybrid system that has one pinky toe in the constitution and the other foot in a fascist cesspool, then he didn't fall short of a thing.

Trump was right once again. BUT, the House was under Democrat control. The Sicilian “Strega” was the Speaker. Even if the House had elected Trump, the peanut butter would have hit the fan and to this day, still be flying through the air. So this is an exercise in futility, as they say, but someday the truth will be out. Right now, it’s incumbent for the Democrats to replace Heels Up Harris, because Old Joe is not in the best of health. At some point, the pharmaceuticals they are pumping into him won’t be of any help.

Important typo from my post corrected, This is the first I’ve heard of the theory that a VP could refuse to open any states votes. Had anyone ever advanced this theory prior to 1/6/21? It’s a good faith question. I’d like to know. Anybody know?
I previously wrote 1/6/22. The point of my question is, while this theory is ingenious, I don't think anyone was thinking of it prior to the event. But I'm more than willing to be corrected.

FTA: “ Pence helped to legitimate the lawless 2020 elections which led to the ascension of our most destructive president ever.”
When you are the only man standing in the breach and you fail to do your duty, you are going to get the blame. The lawlessness of the democrat party and the cowardice of the republican party have done immeasurable damage to the country that will be felt for decades. The American people are not stupid. We did not expect Pence to overturn anything. He had options as the author explained. Did he even explore them? Did it even occur to this guy that he was unleashing hell on this country? Or was he as anxious to get Trump out of Washington DC as the rest of the swine in the swampy deep state? The pain we have endured and will continue to feel for three more years is a direct result of the cowardice of Pence and every Republican that was telling us, Trump lost, move on. What an arrogant bunch of cowards. They knew of the videos, testimonies of suspect handling of ballots, moving ballots across state lines, running Republican watchers out of the counting rooms, pulling suitcases out from under tables and running the ballots into a vote tabulator several times each, abrupt cessation of counting of ballots in several states all at the same time, denying Republican watchers proper access to view the counting, and the tabulating errors by the Dominion machines. They knew all this because we all knew this. And yet, they did nothing to prevent the most heinous usurpation of power in the country’s history. They actually allowed it to happen because of their apathy or complicity. The villains in this little political drama are not the American people. We did our duty to go to the polls and vote our choice. The guy who chose to ignore the evidence and hide behind weasel words as an excuse for doing nothing is a traitor. He and the rest of the political elites who wrestled the God given right of Americans to choose their leaders right out of their hands are, in my opinion, traitors to the principles that our Founders enshrined in our Constitution. As elected officials it was their responsibility as our representatives to secure our elections. They all put their personal political ambition before the will of the people. They broke the oath they made to protect and defend the Constitution.
Let me be clear. If the election was secure without the massive fraud that was committed, I would have no beef. Even if the destruction the democrats have committed were the same, I would suck it up and work toward changing it. The rub is the fact that we were not given the chance to challenge the votes that we felt were invalid. There is far more evidence of voter fraud in 2020 than the hanging chads in the Bush v. Gore election results and they were allowed to be challenged. This time every avenue of challenge was shut down. The media were hysterically crying about conspiracy theories. Even Republicans were urging us to just shut up and sit down. The elites in politics, media, social media, academia, and entertainment were all against any talk of investigation. We mustn’t speak of it or be labeled a fanatic. No one on the hill that day was a voice for the American people. Pence was the last man standing and he failed us miserably. I will never forget or forgive that. He will always remain a cowardly traitor to not only the people but the Constitution.

No one ever asked that an election be "overturned". That is Democrat narrative writing. Those that were cheated merely asked that illegal votes not be counted. That is what was asked of Pence, and he did not do his job.

From what I understand, under each state's constitution and the U.S. Constitution each state shall submit its voting results which must be approved by that state's legislature. This was not done. Particularly in Pa. where the court system and the governor approved the states voting results which were then sent to D.C. The Pa. legislature didn't sign off on the election results from that state. Therefore, submitting the results of the election in Pa. by the court system was unconstitutional. It was then up to Pence to send back the results to Pa. and have them approved by the Pa. legislature. Pence didn't do that and approved to results anyway.

Come on people. Do you REALLY think the Vice President has this power granted him by the Constitution?
Just think about it before you step into this. I have yet to see where any such power is granted in anything other than the wildest and most speculative interpretations.
If this power WAS granted to the VP then the founding fathers screwed up. Just think about it for a moment after checking your heart at the door.

#5, #10, the Constitution did not specifically address cheating because it was written by honorable men who did not expect government officials to A) cheat in something that important and B) allow fools to do it in a free country. The democrats used the "no precedent" excuse as did the Supreme Court. Never fall for the premise that there is not a first time for everything. The democrats cheated across the country and then adopted an air of indignance when we called them on it. Pence could have stopped the certification, any one of those cheating states could have stopped the certification and then demanded that the courts solve the problem both at the state and SC level after thorough audits had been completed. Too many people wanted Trump gone because he was a danger to their little kingdoms. People like Pence, McConnell, Clinton, Pelosi, Schumer were on the endangered species list.

#16 Thank you for replying. I appreciate that you took the time to do so. It wasn't really what I was asking, though. Maybe my fault, maybe I wasn't clear. What I'm asking is not whether or not Pence had authority to stop the certification, as a general principle. What I'm asking is whether the specific nature of how he could stop it put forward by this author (that is, rejecting ALL ballots, not just disputed ones, thereby creating a tie game with a score of zero to zero and, thereby, throwing the matter to the House delegations) had ever been stated prior to the event, that is, 1/6/21. Or was this theory first advanced only after the fact?

This was an insecure election from the moment 'Mail-In' ballots were mailed to EVERYONE, regardless of voter registration status, and then massaged or deleted along the way by leftist activist postal workers coming and going, who could see the Trump signs in the front yards of their clients and then act accordingly.
There was no security or provenance of these mail in votes. None. This is absurd.
And that was before the organized cheating in the counting rooms, cyber, and elsewhere.
We need a secure election.
One person, one vote, on Election Day, at the Polling Place, paper ballots, with Voter ID and the thumb in the ink bottle, with matching thumbprint on the ballot. The Communists on both sides of the aisle- the Dems and RINO Never Trumpers- will oppose this in every way.

#5~ The following is provided as “informational” but may not answer your question.
The Electoral Count Act of 1887 “...aims to minimize Congressional involvement in election disputes, instead placing the primary responsibility to resolve disputes upon the states. The Act sets out procedures and deadlines for the states to follow in resolving disputes, certifying results, and sending the results to Congress.”
In the past 20 years, Electoral College Certifications were objected to three times by Democrats. In 2001, “House Democrats challenged the certification of electoral votes for then-Texas Governor George W. Bush, a Republican...” In 2017, Vice President Joe Biden “oversaw certification of the electoral votes that handed the presidency to Donald Trump. House Democrats had challenged the electoral slate. In 2005, Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D, OH) and Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) “together challenged Bush’s victory in Ohio on grounds of alleged voter irregularities.”
Ted Cruz wanted Congress to “appoint an Electoral Commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority to conduct an audit of election results before Inauguration Day on Jan. 20. Once the audit was completed, states would evaluate the Commission’s findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed.”
The decision Mike Pence made was his to make; however, there was nothing immoral about pursuing the Constitutional action President Trump wanted to pursue not solely for his personal benefit, but because of the morality in seating a presidential candidate as a result of voter fraud, sanctioning such a precedent for future elections.
