Neil Young (76), better known as “and Young,” was the first. A few days later, there were rumors that Barry Manilow (78) followed, but he appeared to deny them via Twitter on Friday afternoon. The same day, before the Denny’s early bird special expired, Peter Frampton (71) appears to have joined “and Young’s” tenuous movement. Let’s call it, “Boomers for Censorship.”
If you’re not aware, earlier this week, “and Young” threatened to remove his music catalogue from Spotify if the corporate media behemoth did not remove the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast from its platform.

We must forgive musicians for living in LA LA land.
But I can never forgive Neil Young for that whiny screechy crazy voice.

All the real musical talent, 50's and 60's rockers, have passed away, and I was never a big fan of any of these guys, so pulling their music is no great loss. I have a huge pile of LP's and that I listen to,as well as older country, when the artists weren't jumping around the stage singing the same word over and over. They won't be missed in my house.

Censorship seems to be getting more popular on all frequencies of the political spectrum. I stand with Voltaire, who supposedly said, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." For a country whose best ideas arose from political conflict some call democracy, it is disgusting anyone should support censorship...which generally means your argument fails.

He didn't threaten to leave, he demanded they either choose him or Rogan, can't have both, he said.
Since Spotify just signed Rogan to $110 million dollar contract, it was an easy decision, and one that Neil Young brought about on his own.
Funny to think of the counter culture musicians of the 60's and early 70's, and the politicians of the same era, all now demanding we trust the government.
Really wasn't something they felt back then, however.
This also makes you wonder what happens to a company who loses millions of subscribers or clicks, like Twitter seems to do on a regular basis over the past few years by de-platforming people, or same with You Tube?
Do they all re-capture those lost eyeballs, and it doesn't affect their stock prices?

I have never understood the attraction to And Young, or many of the so called Counter Culture artists from the 60s. Bad singing voices, insipid lyrics, poor music and hygiene. Not trusting the government, but as they aged, they all seem to have sold out to group think and limousine socialism.

Like wow, man. Take another hit of Mary Gwonnah. Young just sold half the rights to his catalog to Hipgnosis. $100 mill. That ought to tide him over. Stevie Nicks: $100 mill deal. Dylan: $200 mill. You can find other deals too. Why don't they heed Hussein's teaching, "...uuuuhhhh at some point you've made enough money...."

When you are losing the arguement, and have no rational, sensible response....the cowardly, childish ones with a totalitarian streak throw a tantrum and want to shut up the side that is winning the discussion with FACTS, truth and reasonable arguments.
Censorship is the refuge of the totalitarian losers.

These people may have been boomer singers but don't lump all boomers into their category. This boomer wants no part of these semi communist idiots. I guess these people still think it's still 1968 and they are protesting the Vietnam war.

FTA: All that would need to happen now for Neil Young would be for some corporate entity to get behind him, herald his music, give him a platform, reinvent him as an icon of “courage,”
The problem there for Old Man Young is that he has a history of being an anti-corporate activist, epitomized by his anti-corporate screed that masqueraded as an album, "This Notes For You." Good luck to him finding a corporation to back him.

Joni Mitchell, aged 79, had now jumped on the bandwagon as well. They’re all just a bunch of has-been looking for another 15 minutes. Funny - all of them started their careers protesting against “The Man” and now they are “The Man”.

I've also read that longtime "and Young" friend Joni Mitchell has also come out to support him and his campaign and is considering whether to risk her 3+ million plays on Spotify. Since she doesn't have any recent music to hawk it might be enough to just lend him vocal support...
As a Boomer and a musician, it's really sad to see the toll that drugs and the lifestyle have wrought on once-great artists. And it illustrates that artists don't have to be intellectual heavyweights - it's just "Feelings! Whoa-o, feelings!"

The dirty little secret here is that Spotify pays its artists a pittance, so Neil and his fellow virtue signalers aren't sacrificing much revenue.
