The CDC has officially moved the goalposts on what it means to be vaccinated from COVID-19. We all knew this day was coming, even as an onslaught of “fact-checkers” assured us it was “misinformation” to assert such a change was coming publicly. But first, let’s talk about the details. I’m not sure what Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) thought he was going to get by pushing a vote on the Democratic effort to federalize elections (which they call ‘voting rights’) and on the filibuster.
Schumer knew that he was likely to get a “no” on the filibuster from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). They’ve only been holding fast on the subject for months. Both also were very firm on the subject in speeches — Sinema earlier in the week and Manchin earlier on Wednesday. It wasn’t happening, they said.
But Schumer decided to commit electoral suicide anyway, and he got it tonight.
The overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats will soon move to eliminate the filibuster -- which has protected the rights of the chamber’s minority for more than a century – because they feel the need to pass ‘voting rights legislation’ is just too intense to be blocked by the 60-vote threshold.
By merging several pieces of legislation into one mega-bill and calling it the ‘Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act,’ Democrats are trying to scare people into believing that if the bill doesn’t pass, they will lose their right to vote.

Assistant Sheriff Andrew Walsh said Isaiah Tyree Williams, 19, was shot by officers several times as they tried to serve a search warrant related to a November 2021 homicide. Two officers were injured in the exchange.
