The Justice Department on Monday announced a new federal gun control rule aimed at ensuring gun owners have secure storage devices. Under the new rule, federal gun sellers will be required to have gun storage or safety devices available onsite for potential buyers as required by the Gun Control Act. According to the department, a secure gun storage device is defined as “a safe, gun safe, gun case, lock box or other device that is designed to be or can be used to store a firearm and that is designed to be unlocked only by means of a key, a combination or other similar means.”

FTA: "Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said the change is meant 'to reduce the risk of firearms falling into the wrong hands.'" Maybe Attorney General Merrick B. Garland will investigate Barack Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder for their Fast and Furious gunrunning program, which intentionally placed firearms into the hands of Mexican drug cartel members, leading to the deaths of US Border Patrol agents and others. The Trump administration had zero interest in pursuing this, for reasons unknown. Maybe mistakes were made and it's time to move on.

UNBELIEVABLE!
The nitwits have yet to understand that lock boxes don't work.
Al Gore's attempt easily failed to provide any security. They had
best learn to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions.
Trouble is, unable to read the fine print due to age and comprehension.
One can lead an ass to water but they cannot make him drink.

Condoms are available at any pharmacy but those who don't buy them won't buy gun safety items either. Not to worry because the dims are ensuring the threats they pose are lessened by drug overdoses, abortion and inner city murders.

A republican should propose these same restrictions on the 1st Amendment on news and news organizations and articles and listen to the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Oh fer Chrissake. This just shows me that none of them have EVER been to a gun store. What do they think all those safes are for?

More drivel from the commie left. You knew after Michigan and the idiot parents that the feebs would have to do something.
Personally, I have two large safes (not cheap RSCs with junk Chinese can opener steel) that are better than most of the crap you can buy these days commercially, and I have absolutely no problem encouraging people to store their firearms properly. I don't need some half-wit blowhard bureaucrat forcing me to do so. Bugger off.

Nothing like needing your gun for self defense and it's in a safe.

My gun is loaded and available for my protection. I don't have to open a safe while being attacked by LEFTIES. I have no problem with deadly force to protect my family. My moto: "LOCKED, LOADED, AND AVAILABLE."

Rules are for idiots like Alec Baldwin. The idea is to have your gun in your hands and ready to fire by the time your front door is broken through.

Rule or law? Does a cabinet department now have legislative powers? Or is this another "mandate" that doesn't actually exist, but is being followed and enforced as if it already does?

Same here, #5. Tragic.
That said, they pick up convicted felons every day carrying guns and there seem to be no consequences if you are a blue state resident. Here in Georgia I had a contractor friend who had a previous felony conviction for selling weed. The cops thought he was dealing weed again, raided his house and found a shotgun and rifle that he inherited from his dad. He got 12 months. Nice guy I and would trust him with my life. Apparently if you are black with a lengthy violent criminal record, you can carry a handgun in NYC with no real consequences. At least the black funeral homes should be doing well.

All the gun shops that I know of already handle all sorts of gun safes and security boxes. These people are FOOLS and I'll bet have literally never been in a gun shop before.
I bought a good, rapid access gun security box for a niece for Christmas....from a local gun shop. They were out of the particular model that I wanted, but got it in 3 days, in time for Christmas.
