The only black juror in the Jussie Smollett case said he found the case “sad” and said that the actor staged an attack on himself, ABC 7 reported.
Andre Hope was the only black juror in the Jussie Smollett case where Smollett was found guilty for lying to Chicago police after he staged an allegedly racist, homophobic attack on himself, ABC 7 reported. Hope said he has two sons around Smollett’s age and took no pleasure in finding the former “Empire” actor guilty despite overwhelming evidence against him.

Good man, Mr. Hope. You taught your sons to always stand up for the truth.

1 black out of 12. Doesn’t that about match their % of the population?

So, in "black logic", your only peers are other black people?!?!?!? Wow, that was pretty racist there, Mr. Hope! I don't think MLK would agree with your assessment.
I have served on several juries, and have even been the forewoman a couple of times. I got no "pleasure" out of finding people guilty or innocent. I wasn't there for my pleasure. I was there to do my civic duty. I did it, and then went home. We found a white teenager guilty, and a black man not-guilty in those 2 trials. But race played no part. We made our decision based on the facts that were presented.
Mr. Hope seems like a good man. But he is so blinded by race that he could never truly be "impartial". He should not have served on that jury, though even he had to vote guilty based on the facts.

The racism of black Americans never ceases to amaze me. He had to consider that the defendant should maybe be found innocent because of his skin color. I have served on one jury and have been in the pool on a couple other trials. As a Caucasian,I would never consider voting to find another Caucasian innocent based on his skin color. This whole article is ridiculous !!

Yes, Smollet does deserve prison. He shows absolutely no remorse for his crimes and should be used an an example for other would be race crime hoaxers.

It wasn’t “sad”, Mr. Hope. It was downright evil. Juicy tried to start a race war in order to boost his own career.

I share people's regret over Mr. Hope's inevitable bow to the race issue, e.g., his "disappointment" over the jury's composition, blah blah, but consider the idea that the poor guy may be under pressure from the "community," and doesn't want to get doxxed. He did his job. Good enough.

Ditto #3. I'm an old white guy and believe me I have plenty of black peers. Whether fellow engineers or my piano teachers.

I wonder why there was only one black juror, could it be because there were very few black candidates to select from? Could it be that in a city with a high percentage of black citizens that they fought to stay away from jury duty (harder than the white population)?

In the Army, an enlisted person being court-martialed can ask to have an enlisted person on the court-martial board.
Most enlisted people have enough sense (or have been advised by an NCO) not to do that. Enlisted people tend to judge each other more harshly and the officers are more likely to defer to them.
As a female, I should would NOT want a jury of female peers.

I once got a jury summons on a case where a 30 year old black man was accused of inappropriate behavior with an eight year old girl. The lawyers began questioning those of us who had been called. One of the questions was had anyone they knew been accused of something like this. Every single black person said yes and they didn’t feel they could serve on the case. They were all excused. Those of us remaining had to report back the next day and found out there would be no trial because the man had pleaded down to coercion. Sometimes blacks don’t want to serve on juries. I would have done my duty, but I wasn’t looking forward to a case like that.
