House liberals are lining up behind a proposal to shorten the U.S. workweek to four days, which could bring American workplace culture more closely in line with Europe’s.The Congressional Progressive Caucus this week endorsed a measure that would shorten the official definition of a full workweek to 32 hours, triggering overtime pay for many workers who put in any additional hours.“After a nearly two-year-long pandemic that forced millions of people to explore remote work options, it’s safe to say that we can’t — and shouldn’t — simply go back to normal, because normal wasn’t working,” Rep. Mark Takano, vice chairman of the CPC, said in a statement about the move.

It's a good thing we have no serious, pressing problems, so our legislators can work on this really important stuff.

If cutting one day is good let's just make it a one day work week.

Most of her constituents already live on the welfare plantation where they work 0 days of the week.
If this were ever to pass, the rest of her constituents would quickly join them on the welfare plantation, because they couldn't hope to pay their bills working 4 days a week.
But ultimately that is what lie-berals want. Poor folks on the welfare plantation keep voting for the people who give them the free stuff so that they can work 0 days a week.

'Normal' was working and has always worked. What is strange about this proposal is less hours worked leads to less taxes being collected - that being federal/state.Social Security and Medicare. How will the two latter be funded when we are told there isn't enough to go around now? Future recipients can expect to receive less SS payments and less Medicare services.

I am all for it. The less time they are in session, the less damage they can do. Just cut their pay to be commensurate with reduced work hours.

Then why did they not require employers provide employees with healthcare insurance under Obamacare if employers restricted employee hours to 32 per week?

Why not, they are paying big $$ to people not to work, why not shorten the week so they won't fee so bad...jobs are going begging because the lazy b- -wipes can make more money of the welfare system for doing nothing than putting in an honest 40 hour week...

I'm all for a three day work week. Every other week. For Congresscritters and their staffers. Because the less time they work, the more freedom for Americans.

From what I have heard, they are just trying to get the federal employees to go back to work in the office. Is this the carrot?

Three days of idleness. 32 hour workweek of which half the time is spent on personal business, breakfast, breaks, birthday parties. And vacation and personal time off. I wonder if this will produce a nation of wealth, or one of debt and poverty. Ben Franklin thought the latter, being wise, advised industry, improvement, and avoiding waste. I think I will go with Ben Franklin. The communists can go where they please, but don't be asking the Ben Franklin's to share your expenses, or pay for your choices.

Not any of the fedgov's business - not in the constitution (no, the commerce clause didn't mean that, regardless what black-robed commies might claim). This is the kind of nonsense that is inevitable when you allow the idea of government interference in private business and state's business take hold.

Go for it. It will just increase the wealth divide that the left is always screaming about. The entrepreneurs and hard workers will pick up the slack and get wealthier while the slackers get poorer and wail about the “rich guys” keep getting ahead. Of course there is a huge population here who are content to let the taxpayers provide them a living while they sit on their porches and sip malt liquor.

I read this differently. The 32-hour week is for workers nationwide, not Congress.
Not a good remedy to get the nation out of the debt hole that the left has dug for us.
It's the spending, "stupid" .. not the virus.
