What a weekend. Lots of quality time with family, including crossing something off of my sports fan bucket list. My daughter and I joined my sister, brother-in-law, and nieces in Ann Arbor for the Ohio State/Michigan game in the Big House. Lieutenant William Kelly wants his job back after the Norfolk Police Department fired him following a $25 anonymous donation made to Kyle Rittenhouse’s legal defense fund in April 2021.
Rittenhouse’s two-week trial for the shooting of three men during the 2020 Kenosha riots concluded on Friday with a not guilty jury verdict. Kelly, a 42-year-old, 19-year police veteran and father of three, was ten months away from his pension vesting when the Norfolk Police Department fired him.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) yielded the floor on Friday morning at 5:11 a.m. after speaking for a record eight hours and forty-two minutes against the Democrats’ multi-trillion-dollar “Build Back Better” social spending bill.
“My one minute is almost up,” McCarthy joked at 5:04 a.m., referring to the fact that members of the House were originally given only 60 seconds to state their views on the bill before a vote that was meant to have taken place on Thursday evening.
We recently looked at a report showing that the new infrastructure bill is a prime target for fraud, with analysts predicting that as much as 15% of the money being made available will be illicitly taken. The bill contains very few provisions to prevent that from happening. Today’s story out of California should serve as a reminder that the last rounds of COVID relief were similarly targeted by thieves and the problem is still ongoing.

Could it really be possible? Is disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo seriously considering mounting a political “comeback” and trying to take back his old job as Attorney General? There’s plenty of reason to doubt this story (as we’ll get to in a moment), but multiple outlets began reporting it yesterday, so let’s at least take a look. The story first broke in the New York Post and was later followed up at Mediaite. Other local outlets in the Empire State quickly began putting in calls requesting comment.

Indeed it is. Glenn Youngkin’s win in Virginia last Tuesday is just such an event. Just days before Youngkin’s victory, in my article “Democrats Are Imploding; All Is Well, Right?” I said that in fact all is very much NOT well. I ensured you that Youngkin was going to win, but noted that the Democrats do one thing very well – they don’t ever quit:

As of Monday, Kyle Rittenhouse is no longer enrolled at Arizona State University’s online program.A spokesperson for the university said that Rittenhouse, 18, is “not currently enrolled in any classes at ASU” and still “has not gone through the ASU admissions process,” according to Campus Reform. I suggested last week that negative stories about Kamala Harris that ran on CNN and over at Politico were surely planted by the Biden political staff at the White House, but I’m not sure whether the same can be said about today’s much more savage story in The Telegraph: “With Kamala Harris looking unelectable, the Democrats are considering the nuclear option.”
Unlike the Daily Mail, which sensationalizes news from the U.S. in tabloid style—though it must be said that it is often reporting stories the U.S. mainstream media avoids—The Telegraph is a staid broadsheet. Thus, some of the content of this story is all the more astounding for the panic
Gov. Charlie Baker expects a state-sanctioned COVID-19 vaccination passport program to be implemented in Massachusetts and several other states soon. During an appearance on GBH News' Boston Public Radio, Baker said a scannable quick response code, commonly known as a QR code, would show a person's vaccination status and be made available for others to scan and verify. There are significant policy-related differences between men and women. And it is likely in our best interest as police officers to capitalize on the differences and use them to our advantage.
