When All The Media Narratives Collapse

Original Article

The news is a perilous business. It’s perilous because the first draft of history is almost always somewhat wrong, and needs a second draft, and a third, and so on, over time, until the historian can investigate with more perspective and calm. The job of journalists is to do as best they can, day by day, and respond swiftly when they screw up, correct the record, and move forward.(snip) But when the sources of news keep getting things wrong, and all the errors lie in the exact same direction, and they are reluctant to acknowledge error, we have a problem.

Comments:

Sullivan focuses on the Rittenhouse trial, and the events surrounding it, but also mentions President Trump.

I was halfway through reading this excellent article - posted by someone else - and had to step away. When I came back, it was gone. With apologies to original poster, I decided to post it again. Hoping it will stay this time. It should be a Must Read.

After decades committing journalism, Sullivan is finally getting a bit of an inkling (though he still turns first to the Times for his morning deception.) My question for him: how much damage have you done along the way?

I have wondered how anyone could watch CNN or MSNBC - many who post here do so because they have posted quotes and opinions on various hosts and so forth who are regulars there. They’d have to be watching them. Why on earth would they expose themselves to that rubbish? Masochism?

Sullivan lost me when he opined "He had no business being there with an AR-15." Mr. Sullivan is wrong. Mr. Rittenhouse specifically has the right to keep and bear arms in defense of himself and others, a human right recognized and formalized by the 2nd Amendment. There is NO location or time where you may "keep and bear" specified in the 2nd Amendment. And it would have been illegal for a minor to have a handgun by federal law, so he had a [apparently borrowed] rifle, which is legal to possess by minors in most states, probably in Wisconsin, too. Mr. Sullivan ignores the VERY REAL meaning of the 2nd Amendment. "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" means precisely what it says, and even in Mr. Sullivan doesn't personally recognize that right, Mr. Rittenhouse had every legitimate reason to have the gun for self defense. And that is what the case is about. Self-defense from violent, attacking criminals, one armed with a skateboard wielded like a club, one armed with a length of heavy chain, and one armed with a Glock handgun which he pointed at Mr. Rittenhouse from a few feet away.

I laughed through the whole article. What a maroon. I almost passed on reading this, as I haven't read anything by old Andy in at least 10 years, but glad I did because there is some great entertainment here. He's horrified he's been lied to by Rachel Madcow and the New York times...please! He's still clinging to Lefty dogma, he's just mad that the "Paper of Record" has been so sleazy that they've broke his bubble of believability. I'm sure there is Lefty specialty in psychiatry that can fix his azure-colored glasses to enable reading The Old Gray Lady again with confidence. Andy is a Lefty that has made his living as a Conservative In Name Only, which makes him even sleazier than Rachel. Its just that the BS flowing out Fake News is more than he can handle; the cognitive dissonance must be off the charts. His social/work circle went so nuclear communist its making it harder for him to perform his role as the loyal opposition and keep any shred of credibility. If that was his intent with this article, he missed the mark.

#12 I love a visual analogy that is spot on. I am not so naive to buy the brand new self assessment by a complicit media. Although "hands up don't shoot" is a recent example, the Richard Jewell case reveals that the media has not done investigate reporting or honest reporting for many years. They are a shill for the deep state that has long been imbedded in our federal agencies. The only good news in this article is that we might be watching the pattern of backing away from a crime uncovered. When crooks get caught in a lie, they will often admit to a small part of their crime, in hopes of looking forthcoming and contrite. I have a sliver of hope that they see they have been caught, and by exposing some of what they know, hope against hope to retain some tiny amount of credibility from a forgetful public. Not happening!

From the article. "The far right viewed Rittenhouse as a hero — which he surely wasn’t. He had no business being there with an AR-15." Thank God he had that AR-15 to defend himself and fight back against evil. If something doesn't happen soon, there may be many more of us doing the same.

Rittenhause was not a hero. But he acted like a true American. He RESPONSIBLY carried his weapon. He offered no harm until attacked. He administered aid to those in need. His gun control was spot on, on his attackers. He did not then go on a rampage on other 'ptotesters' in the mob who chased him. He immediately contacted police. Then, the local 'Justice Department' revealed itself as a bought and paid for by Soros, joke.

#6, the advice from Sun Tzu is "know your enemy" and that's why we have spies. I stop by CNN and MSNBC once in a while to see what sort of garbage they are spewing and then immediate disgust sends me on my way when I see it's the same old same old. The media is corrupt for the same reason that Hollywood is corrupt and democrats are corrupt - there's money in it. Hollywood was begun and has run for a long time on Jewish and Sicilian organized crime. You did not work there if you did not contribute to the "big guys." Look up "Sidney Korshak." Since most news outlets could not possibly be making it on their own through public sales, one can only assume that the democrats are routinely paying their personal version of Pravda to keep them all afloat - that's why it's all pro-democrat and Never Trump 24/7.

We had to read James Scotty Reston's column in the Times as part of our current event's class. I just read Reston's 1995 New York Times obituary, "James Reston, a Giant of Journalism Dies at 85". I believe there are many women and men who are on their way to becoming today's journalism giants, but I think they have to be part of the independent media so they can have some independence of thought.

What he’s describing with this somewhat opaque term (in English) is a type of mass social hypnosis in which the mass of the population seems to share a “collective unconsciousness”—an obliviousness to reality and even a collective hostility to attempts to introduce them back into a relation to the real world. The Left is addicted to projection—the psycho-political syndrome of attributing all of one’s own sins to one’s opponents.
