Almost half of VA hospitalized COVID-19 cases across the United States have been asymptomatic or mild, according to a new study from researchers at Harvard Medical School, Tufts Medical Center and the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. The new study examined record from almost 50,000 COVID-19 hospital admissions to more than 100 VA hospitals across America. The researchers found that in the pre-vaccination, pre-Delta variant era of the pandemic, from March 2020 to January 2021, 36% of hospitalized patients had a mild or asymptomatic infection. From January 2021 to the end of June 2021, however, the proportion rose to 48%.

Alexander Vindman said that General Mark Milley should resign if some stunning new reporting is true. An upcoming book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa says the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff took some pretty drastic measures over his concerns about how erratic and unhinged then-President Donald Trump acted after the 2020 election. Milley allegedly took steps to prevent Trump from using nuclear weapons, and apparently he was so worried about Trump starting a war with China that he called his counterpart in China. Per the Washington Post: Twice in the final months of the Trump administration, the

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., sent a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy demanding that Amazon use its algorithm to throttle the sale of books she characterized as spreading "COVID-19 misinformation." After pulling up search results on Amazon for various COVID-19 and vaccine-related terms, Warren's team claimed many of the books that came up were "based on falsehoods about COVID-19 vaccines and cures, including those written by the most prominent spreaders of misinformation." "This pattern and practice of misbehavior suggests that Amazon is either unwilling or unable to modify its business practices to prevent the spread of falsehoods or the sale

New Zealand prime minister announced that Auckland will remain under a strict lockdown for at least another week to curb the spread of highly infectious Delta variant of coronavirus. Jacinda Ardern told reporters on Monday that the country’s largest city, Auckland, will remain in strict alert 4 level lockdown until 21 September. The Prime Minister said that after that, the city will move to alert level 3, which means that the curbs will be eased slightly but offices, schools and public venues would still stay shut. She said that even though there was no widespread transmission in Auckland or the

"Many, many more mandates" will come on top of the Biden administrations' new vaccine restrictions, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday. Fauci predicted that colleges, universities, and businesses are likely to start imposing vaccine mandates, he told CNN's Jen Christensen at a panel organized by NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists on Sunday. "And I believe that's going to turn this around because I don't think people are going to want to not go to work, or not go to college, or not go to university," he said. However, he said he did not expect more "centrally-derived mandates" to be on

Covid-19 vaccines work so well that most people don’t yet need a booster, an all-star panel of scientists from around the world said in a review that’s likely to fuel the debate over whether to use them. Governments would be better served to focus on immunizing the unvaccinated and to wait for more data on which boosters, and at what doses, would be most effective, the authors, who included two prominent U.S. Food and Drug Administration experts, argued in the medical journal The Lancet. They based their assessment on a wide range of real-world observational studies as well as data

A 9/11 memorial in Greenville, South Carolina has been defaced with the word "Taliban" spray-painted onto a pair of granite slabs shaped like the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. Upstate Granite Solutions, a company which designs, builds and installs granite countertops, owns the monument which was defaced late on Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The base of the monument had the word “Taliban” spray-painted in two locations. On Sunday the company posted photos of the damage on Facebook, writing that it "takes more than a little spray paint to destroy our spirit of patriotism”. The company

Speaking with a “cottage cream-thick English accent” is an example of privilege, NHS leaders have been told in seminars on racial justice. NHS executives and medics have attended a series of online sessions discussing “whiteness” and “systemic” racism in the health service, as part of diversity training. The Telegraph has obtained copies of the internal talks, organised by NHS England's inclusivity chief and attended by hundreds of staff. Various professors and activists were invited along with NHS diversity chiefs to speak about "dismantling" racism within the health service and “historical myths and monsters” around race. Each speaker stated their pronouns

Sept. 11, 2001, marked the start of a new era for Muslims in the United States. Shortly after al-Qaida terrorists attacked the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, many Muslims, as well as other Arab Americans, became the targets of anger and racism. Mosques were burned or destroyed and death threats and harassment followed many Muslims in the weeks following the attacks, according to congressional testimony from the Southern Poverty Law Center in 2011. Some victims were beaten, attacked or held at gunpoint for merely being perceived as Muslim, the organization said. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who is Muslim, reflected on

Barbara Olson, a conservative commentator and lawyer, wasn't panicked when hijackers took over her flight on Sept. 11, 2001, from Washington Dulles airport to Los Angeles, where she was heading for an appearance on Bill Maher's TV show. She managed to call her solicitor general husband, Ted Olson, twice from the back of the plane where the terrorists, armed with knives and box cutters, herded the passengers. She reported the hijacking aboard American Airlines Flight 77 and asked what she could convey to the captain. According to the 9/11 Commission report, only Olson and flight attendant Renee May were
