Taco bout the future of fast food! Taco Bell unveiled renderings of its latest drive-thru concept—which features an elevated kitchen and “gravity-defying” food delivery system. The high-tech takeout spots will use a “proprietary lift system” to pass food from the 3,000 square-foot kitchen to the four drive-thru lanes sitting below, the California-based chain said in a news release Thursday. The fast-food joint will break ground on the first of the new restaurants in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota later this month.(Snip)The goal of the new Taco Bell Defy concept is to get diners-on-the-go back on the road quickly
The days of sitting in a fast food restaurant are largely over, thanks to the Controlvirus. Personal interaction is undesirable. We have entered the age of complete isolation. Every action will be done remotely. Everything will be delivered. There will be no dating even in the conventional sense, though I can't figure out how the hell you would get to know someone without any interaction.
I am glad I am well past the dating game and all that in the age of COVID and Karens. If I were to ever find myself single again (and I am not looking - 40 years of happy marriage now) I don't think I would even try to find someone else. I wouldn't even have a clue how to.

Won't matter. Money would be better spent making their food taste better and bringing back popular items that they discontinued.
I've eaten there maybe once in the past year, still regret it.

Requires a smartphone. Too many people eating in their cars, texting, driving, then throwing all the trash out on our streets. The crows are loving it. Frankly, if I am going to go and get it and bring it back home, I would rather just go to the grocery store occasionally, and not bother with the drive throughs. I drive by these places, and congratulate myself that I have food at home, and do not have to wait in line.

Too bad their food isn’t better. Most of our Del Taco outlets run rings around Taco Bell.

The main bug in ordering ahead? Steam table food.
I used to love pulling into a Carls Jr. after a long day at work, ordering myself a wonderful cheeseburger, and waiting while they grilled it to my order. Fresh, fresh, fresh...

Hit submit too soon.
Interesting that the first one opening will be in formerly sane Minnesota, probably the most dangerous state in the Union after New York.

So you get a burrito shoved by air through a tube? And then consume said burrito. I'm trying really hard to not make any comparisons

First thought, while reading the Lucianne 'extract' was the same as the poster's comment that this removes the workers from the criminal-element customers.
Second thought, occurring a few seconds later...... no human staff needed. No cooks, no cashiers, no servers. Automate the whole thing, have one person there to keep the supply bins full and see that all the machinery is running smoothly. No-one else needed.
Ugh!

I have always hated drive thrus, never use them.
If all a food place has is drive thru,, we go elsewhere, regardless of how much effort it may take to locate a sit down dining location.
I truly despise eating in my lap in the car, just refuse to do it.
Throughout this whole Dempanic, we have traveled a lot by car, and a few times the effort to find a dine-in fast food was a LOT of effort. Never did drive thru.

Why Minnesota? Gotta reward the pavement apes and BLM/ANTIFA for being good useful idiots. Maybe they’ll have the “Floyd Flauta.” So good it takes your breath away.

Just as New York City is a small part of and doesn't represent what's going on in the rest of the state, neither does Minneapolis/St. Paul represent what's going on in the rest of Minnesota. It certainly is not the most dangerous state in the union. If one city makes a whole state dangerous, then what of Chicago and Los Angeles? Atlanta, Baltimore, and Portland? And speaking of flying cars and robot maids, I'm still waiting for my jet pack. Sorely disappointed.

Drive-through customers often become enraged and attack the staff, sometimes opening fire through the window, sometimes climbing inside to rampage. Pausing operations during police investigations means lost profits, so behold, a new concept touted as a sign of progress in a collapsing society.
