USDA to permanently boost food stamp benefits by 25 percent

Washington—The Biden administration has approved a significant and permanent increase in the levels of food stamp assistance available to needy families—the largest single increase in the program’s history. Starting in October, average benefits for food stamps (officially known as the SNAP program) will rise more than 25 percent above pre-pandemic levels. The increased assistance will be available indefinitely to all 42 million SNAP beneficiaries. The aid boost was first reported by The New York Times and the details were confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Department of Agriculture.(Snip)The aid boost is being packaged as a major revision of the USDA’s Thrifty Food Plan.

President Joe Biden will remain hidden at his presidential retreat at Camp David through Monday, according to the White House, as the Taliban swiftly seized control of Afghanistan.

Food Stamps are a cherished program for the Republicans, as the so-called clients put a fortune in the pockets of Big Soda, Big Snack, Big Fast Food, and Walmart, all of them reliable Republican campaign donors. Meanwhile, the rest of us can simply cut back on our own expenditures while our incomes are eroded through taxation and inflation and zero percent interest rates. As a consolation, remember: No Mean Tweets from the man who wanted to transform Food Stamps into a program where the needy could collect healthy commodities such as produce and meat; this was a non-starter with the GOP for reasons outlined above.
