Joe Biden, emulating trendsetting blue state governors like California’s Gavin Newsom and New York’s Andrew Cuomo, recently has declared that by 2030, new car sales must be 50 percent zero-emission electric vehicles. The problem with this decree is that it violates the proverbial rule against the government picking winners and losers. It’s one thing for the government to subsidize energy research, or, for that matter, any pure research. Libertarian purists might object to that, but sometimes these public-private research partnerships can accelerate innovation and help keep American manufacturers competitive. It’s quite another thing, however, for the government to restrict what sort of technology powers our vehicles,

The real agenda is the tracing tracking monitoring and pre crime profiling which will all be required for the revokable privilege of traveling on the Governments (not the taxpayers) roads

I just wonder if Joe Biden can decree what happens in 2030, 2050, or whenever.

Who is going to break the news to these green weenies that every electric vehicle will still be running on the power of massive amounts of fossil fuels, deep mined minerals and a battery that can fry an entire family in seconds? I'll join the Amish in horse and buggy first.

These blithering idiots who are Democrats, never think things through. They make decrees and you are supposed to go out and make it happen. No thoughts are given to supplies, sourcing, costs and long term effects. All I know is that competent people stay out of politics and that’s a real shame.

Mature Marxist governments act in their own best interests, often brutally. Whereas wannabee, aspiring Marxists know that the economy and the expectations of justice or even logic must be crushed before people will surrender their liberty for a crust of stale, moldy bread.

When Jimmy Carter started us on the road to oblivion, making us drive plastic parted death traps, no one protested very much.
And it has been downhill ever since.

He can decree all he wants...I'll keep driving my internal combustion engine car/truck as long as they're not outright banned (and I don't think he can do that)

Hope you don't have to travel far. They will restrict travel, and say they have to do it to save the planet. We will be no different than any other third world Communist Marxist dictatorship.
What happens to the price of gasoline when cars use less? The price of gasoline will go up. Gasoline will be more expensive than ever.
What happens when millions of cars are attached to the electric grid? Rolling blackouts anyone? If you thought the looting was bad, wait until all the power goes out.
Inflation will be insane. They are spending money they do not have.
They have thought this out. What better way to show they are over us by still having their houses lit, having any amenity they want, and being able to travel while the rest of the country will be struggling just to stay alive.

Enumerating the negative aspects of electric cars or proving that masks are Kabuki, is a fool's erand. These things aren't scientific in any way: they are a means to allow Party Goers in Martha's Vineyard and elsewhere full dictatorial power over our lives by limiting our travel and well being.
Welcome back to the 16th century.

The world runs on diesel. Ships burn it, trains burn it and 18wheelers burn it. And much much more. Get you a little electric car and see how much stuff will fit in it.

Do they count the emissions that come from the power generation plants that produce the energy to charge the batteries? I do not think so....Idiots!

Have these idiots even thought about what happens when a hurricane moves through and we're without power for several days and there's no way to charge your stupid little EV?

What are the people who won't hold cell phones going to do when the government requires them to buy the world's largest cell phone on wheels? Ride on the roof?

It's about control. In the 1920s and into the 1930s Americans were given the technological gift of real freedom to hop in their personally owned vehicle and strike out in any chosen direction, stopping and staying anywhere that they chose for as long as they chose.
This freedom of movement without government control offends the totalitarian Communist control freaks, and they want it STOPPED. No more freedom for 'the deplorables'.
Vote wrong and we will remove more of your freedoms!
These are very evil people.

They've convinced the average person that Elon Musk is a billionaire because of his Tesla sales . In fact, he makes most of his earnings by selling 'credits ' to other car manufactures within the industry to atone to Gaia for the fact that they do not plan to tool up to build these electric toys.

Let's see these electric car owners when they have to outrun a wildfire in California or a hurricane in Florida or anywhere on the east coast. I read in the beginning of the electric car craze the down side to them in harsh winters was it drained the battery power to run the heater and windshield wipers. I'll stick to my 10 year old internal combustion SUV or purchase junkers to ride in I'm old and not going far. Leave golf carts on the golf course and off the interstates.

There is no way - no way - that such an executive order can hold up to any legal challenge. While he's at it, how about mandating the colors - black, white, and red only?
