Census Bureau statisticians and outside experts are trying to unravel a mystery: Why were so many questions about households in the 2020 census left unanswered? Residents did not respond to a multitude of questions about sex, race, Hispanic background, family relationships and age, even when providing a count of the number of people living in the home, according to documents released by the agency.

Here is a hint. It is none of your business. Coumt the number of people in the home. The other data is available from public records, or it is information you don't need.

American Pravda can blame Trump and the Republican Party all they want. I have a simpler theory: Americans just don't trust their government.

Census enumeration is to determine representation.
Sex, race, Hispanic background, family relationships and age have nothing to do with that. All they need are the numbers.

Maybe because we don't like being separated into our respective slot in the egg carton. Maybe because we are skeptical of govt's busy-bodiness reasons for asking, and are suspicious of what they do with the data. Like how they look for reasons to find inequities to throw more money at. Maybe because we tire of the psuedo-import placed on one's lineage. Those were my reasons anyway.

Our deep state overlords can just ask the ChiComs. They've collected dossiers on a huge number of Americans. Or just go to Alexa, Tik Tok, FaceBook, Twitter, and the rest of Big Tech to hand over the troves of data they've collected.

Are they intentionally stupid? Head a count, that's that required by our Constitution. Everything else is an invasion of privacy.

I would guess it's a combo of people with something to hide and those offended by the questions asked. As I've pointed out before, I submitted my questionaire online, and at one point was asked if my teenage son was my same-sex partner. Beyond offensive. They're lucky I didn't bail out in protest.

How about "Nunya". Does that clue it for you?
The census is a tally of the NUMBER of citizens in the country. The only question you are authorized to ask is 'How many live in this household'. Anything else - you can bugger off.

Maybe most Americans detest the invasive questions. I think I skipped several I decided were no one's business.

When we ask the government a question, we get redactions, smudged out documents, can't answer due to under investigation or national security, or they just don't have the resources to respond. And we get investigated by the FBI, canceled by the media, for having the temerity to ask a question. As the article mentions, the IRS and Social Security already have the information.

TRUST, or lack of trust in the government to use the data for what it is intended to be used for is why people refused to answer. How dies knowing some of the information asked help to "count" the number of people for redistricting? They only need the number of people living in the home. Nothing else. All of the other questions are just extra statistics that some nosy government bureaucrat wants so the "better help us". Like I said TRUST issues.

The communists need this information for their future plans. Are you a single person living in a three bedroom, two bathroom house? That's too big for you. The commies will want to take your house and "re-settle" illegal immigrants.

Look up what questions you are required to answer and you will see that the Census Bureau asks many more questions than you are required to answer. I used to get asked all kinds of extraneous questions.

We were sent the "long" form with a follow up.
I opted to fill in nonsense on the extra questions and did not provide any contact information aside from the address they already had.

Census, head count, that's it. AND when that form goes to an imported family, they either can't read or don't understand the questions, or both.

Well, duh!! I've never answered any of the questions....just the headcount. As a result, a few decades ago, they were continually visiting me, lots of door-knocking and doorbell-ringing. I never answered and it finally tapered off. Never, never give them your phone #!

I received 3 different ballots in the mail; additional ones were just lying around in the open. I could have completed 4-6 ballots if I was inclined to do so. Anyone who believes that the count is accurate is mistaken. I filled out one online and scrapped the rest.

For decades I was able to blow off the census takers. This last time however they were knocking on my door once a week for 8 WEEKS!! I finally went online and filled in the barest of minimum I could and then told the door knockers I had done it online. Very very annoyed.

I must be a lucky guy, I got the long form census in 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010. I got the short form last year.
What I did the last few times was to take a red tipped felt pen and write “One Person” on the front of it. Then attached a note that said; Since it is against Federal law to answer untruthfully and does not distinguish between honest mistakes and outright lies and since I was not sure of some of the answers ( i.e., worth of house, distance to work, ) I was standing on my 5th amendment right against self incrimination and would not answer any other questions. They have never called me back.
