A suspect charged in connection with the drive-by shooting that wounded three undercover law enforcement officers in Chicago claimed he mistook them for members of a rival gang, according to a federal indictment filed Thursday. Eugene “Gen Gen” McClaurin, 28, was accused of shooting two federal agents and a local cop as they drove in an unmarked police vehicle on Chicago’s South Side early Wednesday. After his arrest, McClaurin told investigators he followed the officers because he thought they were part of an opposing gang, the indictment states. He then allegedly admitted to pulling up alongside the officers’ vehicle, rolling down his window and opening fire.

Bug experts are getting rid of the name 'gypsy moth' because some Roma people consider it to be an ethnic slur. The Entomological Society of America, which oversees the common names of bugs, is getting rid of the common name of that critter and the lesser-known gypsy ant. The group this week announced that for the first time it changed a common name of an insect because it was offensive. In the past they've only reassigned names that weren't scientifically accurate. 'It's an ethnic slur to begin with that's been rejected by the Romani people a long time ago,' said society president Michelle S. Smith.

Referring to food as “exotic” creates distance between individuals and groups and “reinforces xenophobia and racism,” according to a recent Washington Post article which, instead, suggests people ask themselves why they are unfamiliar with certain foods and question their willingness to change that.
The Thursday article, written by the paper’s food section staff writer, Daniela Galarza, and titled “Stop calling food ‘exotic,’” begins by quoting a couple who praised Afghan restaurants and referred to the cuisine served as “exotic,” in an old Post essay.
Though she admitted the couple “meant no harm,” their use of the term “exotic” indicates that they see the world through a “presumptive Anglocentric perspective,” according to Galarza.

Christina Pushaw, press secretary for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), slammed the media Thursday in reaction to a report which failed to mention that a 2008 Florida law, which could have ushered in repairs for the collapsed Surfside condo, was repealed under former Gov. Charlie Crist’s (D) leadership — a significant point, as he is vying to challenge DeSantis in the upcoming gubernatorial race.
An NBC Miami report details the repealed 2008 Florida law, which some experts surmise would have expedited multimillion-dollar repairs needed at the Surfside condo, which collapsed last month, resulting in at least 68 dead and dozens of others missing.

MSNBC’s Al Sharpton on Friday warned that the United States is “on the precipice of” eroding the voting rights of minorities.
Sharpton, who was part of a group of civil rights leaders that recently met with President Joe Biden to discuss battling new voting restrictions put in place in some Republican-led states, said on “Morning Joe” that he and other protesters will “turn up the street heat” to fight for voting rights because they “cannot sit by and allow them to erode our voting rights.”
“We met with Joe Manchin, eight of us a couple of weeks ago, and he even convened 13 Republicans that met with us by Zoom,” Sharpton advised.

Britons will need Covid certificates to enter pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs under plans to stop a fourth wave of the virus in the autumn.
Experts hope the move will boost the stalling vaccination rates among young people and stave off another surge in cases. The proposals would see entertainment venues in England demanding vaccination passports as proof of either two doses or a recent negative test. The Government's certification review release earlier in the week said although the so-called vaccine passports would not be mandated now, it did not rule out the prospect if England faces 'a difficult situation in autumn or winter'.

Search teams recovered 15 more victims in the Surfside, Florida condo building collapse as of Friday afternoon, bringing the death toll to 79, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at a Friday afternoon press conference.
"This is a staggering and heartbreaking number that affects all of us very, very deeply," she said earlier Friday.
Fifty-three of the 79 victims have been identified, and another 61 people are potentially unaccounted for, Cava said.
Amid the devastation, Cava announced a bit of good news: A black cat named Binx, who lived on the ninth floor of the building, was reunited with its family on Friday.

Public Health England's fortnightly report on the 'Delta' strain showed a total of 1,904 people had spent at least one night in hospital with the mutant virus by June 21. But the agency admits 739 (39 per cent) of these patients may have gone to hospital for a different condition or injury and tested positive through routine NHS testing. Experts said the findings show that a significant number of the Covid admissions reported by the Government every day will be 'incidental cases'.

Teachers and students who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus are not recommended to wear masks. Those who are unvaccinated — including children under the age of twelve for whom a vaccine has not yet been approved — should continue to wear masks, according to the new CDC guidelines.
The guidance emphasizes that schools should continue to offer in-person learning even in cases where some coronavirus mitigation strategies are not feasible. For example, is impossible.

The courts are telling Democrats that their Jim Crow argument against laws they don't like is lame. Judges and the Supreme Court are not buying the argument (if you can call it that) that anything Jim Clyburn calls racist is racist.

Today Avenatti was sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison for extortion and fraud. In other words, he just crossed the hurdle of qualification needed to become the next Mayor

New Yorkers have been forced to wade through rat-infested waters to get home after torrential rain flooded the subway - as the Big Apple braces for Tropical Storm Elsa to strike and bring fresh travel chaos. Thunder storms have caused widespread flash flooding across NYC, with waist-high water deluging Washington Heights subway station and cops deployed to rescue stranded motorists. Several roads in the Bronx and Manhattan remained closed Friday, with up to 6 inches of rain predicted in some areas later. One creative Bronx resident was seen using a jet ski to cross a road under several feet of water.

Jill Biden's first husband Bill Stevenson has claimed for the first time that he spent the night with Robert Durst's murdered wife Kathie ten days before she vanished and that he may be the 'missing link in the case' that drove Robert 'crazy'. Stevenson was married to Jill Biden between 1970 and 1975. She met Joe towards the end of their marriage when working for him when he was a Senator, and they got married in 1977 - five years before Kathie Durst vanished in 1982. Bill, who previously accused Jill of having an affair with Joe while he was still married to her, was childhood friends with Kathie.

Those who remember the deep weeds of former SSCI Vice-Chair Dianne Feinstein switching senate committee assignments and then using her position to “accidentally” release the Senate Judiciary Committee transcripts of Fusion-GPS founder Glenn Simpson (January 2018), will find this recent article about ongoing litigation interesting.
Alfa Bank is suing Fusion-GPS. As part of their legally obligated discovery, Fusion-GPS and Glenn Simpson are required to release internal documents containing their communication with Chris Steele and others who organized the false claims of bribery, extortion and 2016 election interference against Alfa Bank found in the Steele Dossier. It appears Fusion-GPS is getting panicked, and just made a major legal mistake.

Former Democratic Queens Borough President candidate Elizabeth Crowley has called out incumbent Donovan Richards as a “Trump-like” bully after he called her a racist in a crude tweet celebrating his apparent photo-finish victory. The former New York City council member called Richards’ post “slanderous” and vowed to keep on fighting to overturn his razor-thin margin in their Democratic primary battle.(Snip) Crowley also suggested Richards is acting in a sexist manner toward her and was humiliated by the closer-than-expected results. “Strong women should not be bullied out of ensuring every vote is counted,” Crowley said. The ugly brouhaha erupted after Richards,

In January, an Israeli Defence Forces Intelligence report (pdf) warned that Israel’s mass vaccination program could create an Israeli mutation that proved resistant to COVID-19 vaccines. Prepared for Coronavirus National Information and Knowledge Center, the report stated that “The mass vaccine campaign taking place parallel to the active outbreak in Israel may lead to ‘evolutionary pressure’ on the virus.”

Drugmaker Pfizer said Thursday it is seeing waning immunity from its coronavirus vaccine and says it is picking up its efforts to develop a booster dose that will protect people from variants.
It said it would seek emergency use authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration for a booster dose in August after releasing more data about how well a third dose of vaccine works.
But in an unusual move, two top federal agencies said Americans don’t need boosters yet and said it was not up to companies alone to decide when they might be needed.

Joe Biden is quietly implementing a drastic, dangerous, and many would argue naïve change in foreign policy toward recalcitrant states such as Iran and Russia. As part of a new approach to sanctions, built more around time-consuming collaboration and consultation with allies, Biden is already easing some existing strictures with no matching quid pro quos. Some Iranians have already been removed from Treasury sanction lists with no new commitments to negotiate.
Relieving those sanctions unilaterally is intended by the Democrat president as a sign of goodwill and allied collaboration. Biden clearly hopes that will lead to a

In a chilling tweet, the leader of the BC Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) has called for more Christian churches to be torched in response to the discovery of unmarked graves on the sites of former boarding schools for Indigenous children, many of which were run by churches decades ago. The Western Standard reports Harsha Walia, the association's executive director, responded to news reports of two more Catholic churches being burned down. "Burn it all down," she tweeted. The attorney for one of the men at the “protest gone wild” at the Capitol Building last January has called on the federal judge to move Thomas Edward Caldwell’s trial out of “Trump-hating” Washington, D.C. Caldwell was the first of the Capitol protesters to be arrested. The coverage of his arrest set the tone for media coverage of all other arrestees in the Department of Justice’s “shock and awe” plan to root out alleged “white nationalist” militancy. Caldwell’s attorney says that’s the problem because it’s untrue.
Attorney David W. Fischer filed a motion to move the trial to the Western District of Virginia

Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared on MSNBC on Wednesday and slammed unvaccinated Americans, telling them to “get over this political statement.”
“This is not complicated. We’re not asking anybody to make a political statement one way or another,” Fauci said during a segment of “All in with Chris Hayes” on MSNBC. “We’re saying, try to save your life, and that of your family, and that of your community.”
“We have so many things, as you said, so many diseases that I deal with that don’t have solutions,” Fauci continued. “It’s very frustrating. You don’t have a treatment, you don’t have a vaccine.

The federal government is a kind of self perpetuating blob; a cannibalistic creature that must continue to feed on the public and the systems around it in order to survive, but it also must create reasons for its existence so that it may go on feeding uninterrupted. Now, don’t get me wrong – I realize that the apparatus in Washington DC is nothing more than a tool for the power elite to grow their scope of control as well as grow their wealth. That said, without a large federal government the establishment oligarchy would have no ability to project the force they need to compel the population

The writer who calls himself Techno Fog has been following closely the libel lawsuit launched by Alfa Bank’s owners against Fusion GPS over its accusations that the bank had engaged in “bribery, extortion, and interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.” Mark Wauck provides context:
"Anyone might be forgiven for imagining that the Russia Hoax is over and done with. But it's not. And Techno Fog has a very interesting article to remind us of that fact. As you may recall, during the final month or two of the 2016 election campaign, outlandish accusations were leveled against Alfa Bank. The basic idea was that a Russian bank,

A country of roughly 330 million has more than 9 million job openings, and 9.5 million unemployed. This is a disgrace, a clear indication that our American character and work ethic are slipping, a rolling tragedy that’s been authored by the Democrats.
Three years ago, before Democrat Joe Biden was the president, while the Republicans still held a majority in the Senate, The Saturday Evening Post wondered if “the American work ethic (has) gotten worse.”
“Have Americans lost their willingness to apply their noses to the grindstone, or to work hard for anything they get in life?”
The venerable publication concluded “that’s not what statistics show.”
Today’s data, however, tell a different story

The noble and patriotic Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Gaza) has a big new idea: defund not only the police, but Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Why? Because they engage in terrorism, of course. The Democrat effort to scapegoat and criminalize all opposition to the Leftist agenda in response to their imaginary January 6 “insurrection” is gathering steam, and now Tlaib wants to take it even farther, treating organizations dedicated to defending the United States as if they were enemies of the state. In the Left’s new America, that’s exactly what they are.

Taking the subway? Make sure to pack a lifeboat! Heavy rains caused titanic-level floods at several Big Apple train stations Thursday—forcing some desperate New Yorkers to wade through subterranean lakes just to get on with their commute. Shocking video showed a woman walking into waist-deep water as she attempted to reach the platform at the 157th Street No. 1 train station in Washington Heights. The “pour” straphanger had water up to her ankles as she descended the stairs—before she plopped into the underground pond. She continued moving, undeterred, holding a shopping bag up in the air. One man was spotted trudging through the knee-deep water,

Barry Diller made his name in the film industry as the chairman and CEO of two Hollywood studios, Paramount Pictures and what was then 20th Century Fox. Now, he is declaring the industry dead.
"The movie business is over," Diller said in an exclusive interview with NPR on the sidelines of the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference, a media and technology conference in Idaho. "The movie business as before is finished and will never come back."
Yes, that has to do with a substantial decline in ticket sales and the closure of movie theaters during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Democrats have a problem: They have run away from their core voters. And they are beginning to notice and worry.
Lefty blogger Kevin Drum noted this recently. He observes that Republicans have moved slightly to the right, but Democrats have moved way, way to the left on social issues.
Drum says he is “personally happy” about the Democrats’ move left. But he is worried, because while the Democratic Party has moved hard left, the voters it relies on to attain power haven’t.
Thus, in the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump — despite being called a white supremacist and a Hispanic-hater

Global energy usage shrank significantly during the pandemic lockdowns and remained comparatively low during the winter. But now that the United States is reopening, along with much of the rest of the world, energy demand is spiking at unprecedented levels. In order to meet the increasing need, many countries, including America, are turning to a much-vilified but very reliable source. Coal-fired power plants are driving up the need for more coal. This trend flies in the face of all of the promises and treaties that have been in vogue of late, with countries promising to reduce their “carbon footprints” and go to renewable, green energy technologies.

Joe Biden held a press conference Thursday to discuss the pull-out from Afghanistan, with the military mission set to end August 31st. In the process, perhaps because it wasn’t the normal, fawning press corps asking him questions (these were mostly reporters from the national security beat), the president finally got some tough questions thrown at him.
Let’s just say that he didn’t handle it very well, but to start, here’s a clip of Biden blanking out, something that is basically a given anytime he speaks in public. If you can’t watch the clip, what you’ll see is Biden lose his train of thought

More than six months after the events at the U.S. Capitol that led to the shooting death of protester Ashli Babbitt, the officer who killed her remains a secret as carefully guarded as any in Washington, D.C. Why?
Real Clear Investigations reporter Paul Sperry – who has been trying for months to learn the name of the U.S. Capitol Police officer who pulled the trigger – reported that a name surfaced, inadvertently, at a February House hearing.
Sperry uncovered a transcript and reviewed the C-SPAN video from the hearing.
