President Biden Friday demanded the Republicans in the Senate move on passing gun background check legislation, calling the string of mass shootings and gun violence a "national embarrassment."
Biden pushed the Senate to take a vote on House-passed legislation that would expand background checks and close certain loopholes.
"I strongly, strongly urge my Republican friends in the Congress who refuse to bring up the House-passed bill to bring it up now," Biden said. "This has to end. It's a national embarrassment."

That steaming heap of used Alpo has a lot of heart talking about a "National Embarrassment"; when the embarrassment occupies the Oval Office.

You made a mistake, Joe. That "National Embarrassment" plaque that you received in the mail was meant for your desk.
Republicans have no doubt about what that hot potato will do to their chances of extending their careers.

Biden seems to have forgotten wh is in charge of the House and Senate. It is not the Republicans who are failing to take up the gun control bill. It is the Democrat controlled Senate. This is because they know that it will not pass!

Private sales of rifles and shotguns in Pennsylvania are legal.
If I go to a gun show here, and I see someone trying to sell a gun to one of the dealers, (sometimes the seller is a recently widowed woman who knows nothing about gun values) and is getting lowball offers, I might tap her on the shoulder and make my offer to her as a private citizen. That would be a legal transaction.
Could Dementia Jo's handlers point to any crime under the above circumstances? Or are they trying to run up the cost of gun ownership? (requiring the transfer of a pistol in Pennsylvania to go through a gun dealer would cost me 60 dollars.)

"Biden also insists Congress pass bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines..."
In the 30+ years the 'high capacity' magazine for handguns has been around there has to be a billion of them...good luck with that.

Manchin is waiting for more mass shootings, and cop shootings of “unarmed black men” to announce his flip on elimination of the filibuster. I can just hear him — “the filibuster is being used to obstruct the urgent necessity for police reforms and legislation to stop the epidemic of gun violence.” Also, Manchin is holding out for his asking price.

A national embarrassment talking about a national embarrassment isn't that something? All the mass murders have kicked up only since this national embarrassment was placed in the White House it wasn't bad when President Trump was in there.

Shame on ghouls who engage in that bad behavior. Gun value catalog publishers might consider an ad campaign.

So, Gropey, are universal background checks going to stop the dozens of shootings every weekend in Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis, Minneapolis, NYC, DC, Oakland and every other demonrat shiitehole city? I think not. None of those shooters went through a background check and none of them purchased their guns at a gun show. Not to mention that none of them are members of the NRA. Why aren’t you doing something about them? (Rhetorical question) They are the true “national embarrassment”.

Almost 90% of gun homicides are committed by blacks (see FBI data). Over 90% blacks vote Democrat in every elections. But .Republicans are responsible for gun violence. I don't know how that logic works. In fact I misspeak. Almost every poster on this site knows how this works and who is behind it.

My still NIB Colt M4 6920 is commanding a $3,000 price tag on a gun auction gun site. Last week at a gun range, a newbie AR guy came up to my asking to buy 5.56 ammo from me because even though he could still buy an AR, he could NOT find ammo. I told him I could not help him and wished him good luck! Over 20,000 gun laws on da books and they want more! Best label for the Left is FUBAR!

In what state are there no background checks? Seems some of the worst mass shootings were done even with background checks that either the FBI did nothing about, or the background check was done on one person, but the shootings were done by someone else using the gun.

Given the amount of U.S. citizens now possessing firearms for self-protection, I don't believe Biden or Pelosi could get all the Dems to vote in lockstep on this one, or any other draconian Gun Control legislation.

Blue states should make background checks easier. Allow street corner drug dealers access to the NICS system so there wouldn't be so many illegally held weapons.

In what ways would this bill have changed anything regarding these shootings? In all of those I have seen the information, the shooter either passed a background check, or obtained the guns illegally.

#13, the Browning High Power was created in 1926, and adopted in 1935 by the Belgian military and sold commercially. It had a 13 round magazine. That was a standard design 85 years ago. The Savage Model 1907 had one of the first double stack large capacity magazine, carrying 10 rounds when all the contemporaries carried 6. That was the first 'high capacity' handgun, over a century ago.
15 shot magazines were available for the Remington semi-auto Model 8 rifle, although most came with the less bulky 5 shot magazine when they went into production in 1905. Semiauto rifles and handguns have been common for 115+ years. "Large capacity" magazines have been around for between 85 years and a century, depending on how you want to define "been around". They have been common in the USA since WW2 in the Browning High Power handgun, and since about 1971 in the S&W Model 59 handgun, so for about 75 years or more.

Just because criminals and nut jobs are committing crimes with illegal guns are not reasons for Biden or the US Government to infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms in accordance with the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.
