Hideki Matsuyama held off the field at the Masters on Sunday as he secured his first green jacket.
Matsuyama became the first Japanese man to ever win the Masters as he finished the tournament at 10-under. Matsuyama shot an 1-over 73 on Sunday, closing the weekend one stroke ahead of second-place finisher Will Zalatoris.Matsuyama, 29, won at Augusta National in his 10th Masters appearance. He previously finished fifth at the Masters in 2015, and he entered the weekend with five career PGA Tour wins. Matsuyama had not won a tournament since 2017 before Sunday's victory.

Hideki!
Although I wanted Jordan to win, I'm very happy for Matsuyama.
Zalatoris is a guy to watch, too.

I too was rooting for Jordan to win, but he got off to a bad start and fell too far behind to make it up. That he finished in third place was quite an accomplishment considering how he started. I felt Zander's pain on the 16th. He'll win that jacket one of these years.

Winner blew 5 strokes on last 4 holes. Four players close enough to challenge fumbled. Announcer was talking about Hideki getting fitted for jacket on 14. Not a strong showing.

I enjoyed watching it, although I had to hit the mute button every time the sportscasters gushed about Matsuyama carrying the weight of a country on his shoulders. Mention it once or twice, that’s ok, but I stopped counting at ten.

Very nice to see Spieth back in the mix. #9 i do believe many (if not most) modern Japanese are more American at heart than just about any Dimocrat.

As an aside, when my wife and I went to the Pearl Harbor memorial some years ago, practically all of those standing around us that day appeared to be of Japanese descent. I looked at this old Japanese woman and she said to me, "our government lied to us and we are sorry for America". There is considerable remorse among the older Japanese population about what happened at Pearl Harbor. As they later came to discover, the Japanese military awakened a very complacent America and then there was Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Great TV today. The Masters is always a treat. You get to see Sports at it's finest. I was happy to see Matsuyama win. He was consistent throughout the game and won the match fair and square. And yes, a star was born with Will Zalatoris, coming in second in his first match. Xander Schauffele was also great and almost upset Hideki coming down the stretch.
After the match I kept thinking if Trump was potus right now, he would be on the phone congratulating President Abe of Japan. They formed and lasting friendship and respect for each other.
Also we saw how Americans act during a prestigious sporting event ... with class and dignity. I am proud of our country, our culture and our history that created us.

Hideki took most of the drama out of the Masters. Then, just when the tournament became interesting, poor Schauffele splashed on #16. He seems like a nice fellow. And I expect him to win multiple majors.

I saw Hideki’s caddy replace the flag at #18 and give a short bow.Nice.
And as others have noted, classy.
Dustin Johnson was gracious and the crowd gave a nice “well done” at the end.
Great afternoon.
(What do you suppose the commentators think of Bryson’s style strategy?)

#13.
Biden called and congratulated Arnold Palmer on a great last second home run and extra point.
You must have missed it.

#7, not to mention when they would replay the Japanese broadcasters. Since I don't understand Japanese, I didn't know why they were doing it.

Pulling for Spieth, Schauffele or Rose but Hideki clearly earned it despite his loose finish.
He's has a rep as being the best iron player out there so no fluke.
Xander has too much scar tissue already, so many strong major finishes.
Zalatoris impressed, whippy strong with a 28" waist! OK he's young and needs more
experience but his lag putting is awful as of today.

A Japanese golfer wins the Masters. Brace for it - white-nationalists to take Oriental-bashing to new heights.

I'm sure that there is much celebration in Japan, where golf is played by over o-tenth of the population. Hideki has been a world class player for several years, and he earned his green jacket. Will Zalatoris is a star in the making. You'll hear from him in future majors.
