If you believe that religious faith and beliefs have been a vital part of the United States’ national character, strength, and unity since the Pilgrims’ arrival 401 long years ago, then a new Gallup Poll released this Holy Week will profoundly disturb you. For the first time in 80 years of polling, Gallup’s research found that a majority of Americans do not belong to any religious institution — church, synagogue, or mosque. That doesn’t

Nearly 100% of "journalists" do not attend a church and do not know anyone who does.
And
Did you know that Christians in Russia exceed 200 million ?

I really don't like saying this, but I have lost my faith in government and church. I find them both disappointing and, at times, colossally disappointing. I suppose I am a disappointment to God.

Is it losing faith or not teaching faith? If faith isn't a part of the teachings, what's is their to believe? Teaching 'woke' and Social Justice isn't faith or spirituality. Is political rot.

People may be losing faith in their church. That doesn't equate to people losing their faith in God. People know they need God. A church that uses and abuses them? Not so much.

When the organized churches go liberal, the congregations can drift away. This says nothing at all about the status of Christianity. Just the human beings who try to manipulate it for their own agendas.

To #2's point, I'd bet that God is disappointed in his church, too.

I don't think Americans are losing faith. I think they haven't been able to get IN to their Church due to COVID. Even when they are allowed to go to Church, some churches require a "reservation" so they can limit people attending and making it Socially distanced. Well, that only is okay for so long. I think the churches would be packed Easter Sunday if the doors were open to anyone. I don't think we have lost OUR FAITH, I think we have lost faith that the churches have lost their common sense! There is a huge difference watching your church service on a TV Screen and being in the House of God! People feel it! Movie Theaters are open, Entertainment is open, Disney is open. Why don't Churches open? It's time!

How unexpectedly unexpected, but considering how churches were deemed non-essential and ordered to shut down completely a year ago, this is what the war on Jesus and Christianity has managed to accomplish. This is a measure of success by the anti-christ movement in power across the land. Some churches stood up for God and did not bow down to the declarations of man. Those that stood and fought are strong and their members happy and healthy.

When this stupid "pandemic" started, I truly believed that Christian churches would lead from the power of faith.
Silly me. They cowered in fear, and locked their doors to their faithful that needed them more than ever!!! And it crossed all denominations, from the mega-church on the hill, to the cathedral downtown, to the tiny evangelical church on the corner.
So many people have stayed home, and sadly will continue to do so once things get back to normal. While I expect many of the older people to return, I honestly believe this will be the death knoll to the faith of so many teenagers and 20-somethings.
And add the full-fledged attacks on faith by Demon-Rats, it may be time for God to just "pull the plug"!!!

As a lifelong Catholic I know that The Church, is far bigger than mortal men. Bad faith priests, bishop's and, and even this Pope cannot change that. I won't deprive myself of the spiritual benefits of my faith because of them. That's not to say that I am not feeling betrayed by them. I do know however, that, unless they change their ways, they will suffer greater consequences than the average person.
I have been sick to my stomach over the way they caved to the government. I never thought that I would see that day. I felt that it was a slap in the face to all who have been martyred in defense of their faith, and all of those who kept the faith alive in Communist countries for over one hundred years. When the Soviet Union fell, the Church reemerged intact. If the face of persecution and death threats the faithful never gave in. My uncle was a good and faithful priest he was nearly beaten to death once for not responding to a robber's request for his wallet. He didn't respond because he was carrying the Eucharist to a dying man. That may not make sense to a non-Catholic (or most Catholic's today for that matter) but to him protecting the Eucharist was more important than his own life.
Our parish takes "reservations" now. Our church holds eight hundred, they are "allowing one hundred to attend at any one time. During this Holy Week one must make a reservation to go to confession. The line that really hit me in their "guidelines for attendance" was that no "non-parishioners can attend." I cannot fathom that. Denying the sacraments because of an order from a governor.
"Father forgive them for they know not what they do."

People of faith can still be faithful, even when their church embraces 'woke' ideas. I think difficult times actually strengthen believers, who must cling to the Good even more than usual. Love of God and following His Word are what is most important. Considering the constant attack on the articles of faith, and the elimination of faith and the replacement of it in most of our educational systems, it is totally unsurprising that polls would reflect a drop in faith.

Andrew gets it wrong again. Religious beliefs and faith have very little to do with the spineless priests, ministers and rabbis who rolled over for the governments' unlawful closure of their places of worship. Americans know cowardice and hypocrisy when they see it. I hope these false alleged conduits to God are forced to go out and work for a living.

How can you support a "faith" that tells you that everything you believe and grew up with, is wrong?
Point me to a church that holds fast to biblical principles, and I'll show you a healthy, vibrant community of faithful happy people. But the regular churches have been infiltrated by judas-priests, who turn their congregations into freak shows. No sane person wants to be part of that.
And its hard to keep a loving heart when a thing with purple and green hair is screaming that you're a bigot for following traditional Christian values.
The "churches" did it to themselves, when they turned their backs on God.

Ditto my cradle Episcopal Church, at every level. They are leaving me so fast I can barely see them on the horizon.
To my Catholic brethren, I share your pain at what has happened to your Church. It seems to me that there are forces on this earth who, having seen the role of the Church in defeating communism, are determined to take it out of play.

Most churches rolled over and complied with the unconstitutional edicts when the Wuhan hit, including mine, which surprised me. If they don't think it's imperative above all else to attend Divine Liturgy (or whatever your particular Faction of Christ calls it) and fight for our right to do so freely, why should I bother?

Since I believe most churches have become as corrupt as our government, I do not attend. It does not mean I don't believe in God or that I do not pray. I don't need a corrupt church to be a Christian. #18 has the picture.

They should not allow politics to be involved in the Church.I personally think that's why some people leave the Church Because of the churches either left leaning or right leaning ways. That's why we have a separation between Church and State. JMO..

The problem has been the lockdowns and social distancing rules, which have been devastating to businesses and houses of worship. Part of the psychology of lockdowns, masking and social distancing is the endless stress and fear they create. If a hurricane had been headed towards us, it would have ended quickly, and people could have taken prudent precautions. An unprecedented world shutdown lasting over a year has tested faith in a subliminal way, because the message has been the only end will come from vaccines paid by the government. God is nowhere in that formula, leaving people of faith to put their trust in the government, which has the power to order endless hiding from the pandemic. Meanwhile, thousands of businesses have collapsed, and government is paying relief funds to formerly employed workers. In short, the pandemic has been used to crush small business and houses of worship, and undercut confidence in faith. If you were a Marxist, it doesn't get any better than that.
