State Democrats want to limit the number of miles Minnesotans can drive, according to a new bill making its way through the Legislature. The “Sustainable Transportation Act” would require Minnesota to adopt a goal of reducing vehicle miles traveled by “at least 20% by 2050.” Rep. Frank Hornstein, DFL- Minneapolis, said a reduction in vehicle miles traveled, or VMT, is needed “if we are going to make headway in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector.” “Transportation is now the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and we’ve had the least amount of reduction in the transportation sector,” Hornstein said during a Thursday hearing on his bill.

What if you run out of milk or eggs and you've driven your quota? How is your quota determined? What happens if you misjudged your mileage for that month and go over it. Who determines how many miles someone gets? Who's dumb idea is this?

The Minnesota legislature has entered the annual state level competition with the winner awarded a plaque, autographed by Commanders in Chief Biden/ Harris for “Most idiotic regulation of the year”. There is a lot of competition, but this one seems to have a good chance of winning.

This legislation is superfluous. BLM and Antifa are already limiting how far Minnesotans can drive - - by attacking any vehicle which tries to drive there.

So they want to limit gas tax revenues by 20% as well? Interesting way to lower taxes.

There are many rural parts of Minnesota where people have to drive quite a distance for medical care etc. This is all part of their "agenda 2030" which was once called agenda 21. They want everyone to live in cities and no property ownership. May those that push this crap all rot in hell.

I noticed how proposals like this are set to enact far into the future (2050), after all the dem-jerks are dead and gone, beyond reckoning.

Dear Minnesotans
Remember, elections have consequences.
You get the government that you voted for, good and hard. Congratulations, and welcome to the consequences of your "informed" choices.

Our freedom offends them. They just HATE it that you have the freedom to just go where you want, when you want, for any reason that you think is good.
They are totalitarian thugs, and evil is in their hearts.

#! The reason we get all these dumb ideas is that politicians rarely have any good ones. By 2022 you will have to show your smartphone vax ID (an even dumber idea) to vote.

A better idea is to require all politicians to remain in their offices and do the work they were elected to do! No more travel to conferences at tourist destinations, fund-raising rallies, or foreign ''good will'' visits!

Re #16. Three of my former employees are still driving twenty miles one way each day to my office. They are the ones that will be hurt by buttplug's plan to tax miles driven. Not the wealthy and well-to-do. Always remember that the government's insatiable and relentless desire for more tax revenue will always end up hurting the very people the Dems say they are concerned about.

Water vapor is the #1 so-called "greenhouse gas". Not CO2. Not Methane. And electric vehicles just move the polluting emissions from the car to the power plant. (i.e., they are NOT emissions-free.) And restricting economic activity in a misguided effort to reduce emissions is kind of like reducing death by limiting life.
Stop blowing greenhouse gases up our asses about your "green" lies, when what you are really peddling is worldwide authoritarian socialism.

Will the bill include a provision for 'the rich' to buy 'mileage credits' so they can drive wherever?

So they don't expect people to be stupid enough to buy electric cars until 2050? Interesting. That will give democrats a whole new generation to coddle, brainwash and indoctrinate so theoretically it could happen. If you've never heard the scream of an Italian V-12 you probably wouldn't know what you're missing.

Yes Comrade, we will tell you how much you can drive. Later we will tell you where you can go and how long you can stay. Then we will tell you what kind of car you will buy and how many can be in that car at a time, etc.
