Queen Elizabeth’s address to her subjects in respect of the corona virus stirs our republican spirits. It’s not that she unloaded a lot of information that Britons, or Americans, were heretofore lacking. It’s hard to reckon that she had much more of a briefing than a newspaper editor could get. Nor was it her eloquence, though her remarks were well-enough crafted.
Rather, the power of royal remarks like the ones Her Majesty just made comes from the unique nature of her constitutional role and the extraordinary span in which she has been sovereign.

Yes, Yes, and Yes again, and too:
"...Never give in, never, never, never, never, never - in anything..."

FTA: She made a point of drawing a distinction between the current crisis and earlier ones. “This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavor, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed — and that success will belong to every one of us.”

I watched the address and one thing struck me. The Queen did not mention God. It was a fine speech but it made me appreciate our President who is not afraid to speak about God and His importance at a time like this. It is one thing I admire about him. He wants to acknowledge and show thanks for God even when he knows it lights the dems hair on fire when he does. Donald Trump is my age and I can remember as he does the country when respect was shown to God. We show our respect for God as an authority and that is a great living example for our children and grandchildren to follow.

The Queen is a selfless woman who embodies the best of the England of old. On the other hand her son Charles is selfish and embodies the worst of modern day England

In reply to #3. Not sure why she didn't mention God, but I attended All Souls Church in London in February and was introduced to her Chaplin. He is retiring (have to by law at 70) but he is an evangelical pastor. Which is one of the reasons UK Christians know that the Queen is too. He has said as much and on her 50th Anniversary as Queen she gave out tracks proclaiming Jesus as Lord. I have one!

The symbol of this effort is “the rainbow drawn by children.” How sweet.

I am not a fan of the Monarchy, but I have always respected This Queen! She is the Real Deal! The rest of her rotten family of hanger-ons...all bellied up to the trough of English Tax Revenue...ugggg!

The last of the great monarchs, perhaps forever. I think when she passes on, and I hope it is not soon, it will be an end of an era.

The Queen is an amazing woman, and she does indeed get a better briefing than the normal news editor gets. Because she gets the classified side of the story, whereas the editors do not. QEII is the last of the old school monarchy, and she will indeed be sorely missed when she passes. Because Diana was right, her son is not fit to take on the Crown.

Indeed, #3, devout British Christians make much of the fact America has a President who has acknowledged The Lord by Name on so many occasions and events. They wish their nation had leaders so outspokenly Christian as we do. It would have been nice if the Queen had extended prayers and best wishes to President Trump and America as they suffer with large numbers of victims. It makes me even more pleased that our President quickly made such caring and kind statements of support for Boris and the British people.
