In an unflattering column about President Trump called “Incompetence is not an impeachable offense,” Marc Thiessen writes:
What we saw on display Wednesday were two dedicated, experienced career foreign policy officials who had been desperately trying to figure out what the president wanted — and inferring his intentions based on snippets of information from others. But their efforts to divine Trump’s desires presume that the president knew what he wanted.
It’s not clear he did. His handling of Ukraine seemed less the execution of an intelligible plan than a chaotic mishmash of constantly changing urges and demands.

Career diplomats don't have to divine anything. If in doubt ask the SoS. If the SoS is confused or deliberately undercutting the POTUS then there is the heart of the problem.

Career diplomats blundered the world into two giant devastating wars in the 20th century. They have a highly over-rated opinion of themselves IMHO.

This article suggests there was a quid pro quo. Everything I read as to the timeline suggests there was not. Which is it?

It's apparent to me that these diplomats don't know what diplomats are supposed to do. They are not legislators, nor executive branch decision makers. They are simply bureaucrats who, by any other name, are supposed to speak for the President and implement his objectives, to the best of their ability. They are not there to second-guess the President, nor publicly object with decisions they disagree with. They are certainly not to give aid and comfort to our enemies, foreign or DOMESTIC!
Unfortunately for the American citizen, the State Department has become part of the bureaucracy that thinks it's job is to usurp the President's authority whenever it disagrees. It seems to be the heart of the swamp.

I dont think anyone, including this journalist have any idea what Trump wanted. All of them claim to infer, or speculate as to what he wanted, but none of them ask the source: Donald Trump.
The result is hot air on one side and wasted ink and paper on the other... or electrons anyway, in this digital age.

Trump is a master strategist at work. And frankly, nincompoops like Thiessen are so consumed by their ego and prejudices that their limited intellects are incapable of grasping the big picture. As for the "dedicated ,experienced" foreign service officers, they are seeing whatever influence they thought they had evaporating in front of action driven by leadership and love of country. A lot of that going around!

OK, if we concede that we know what Trump wanted, then they next questions, which are far more important, and that they never ask, are why did he want it, and what was he going to do with the information? Was he going to hold onto it, and selectively lead it, during the campaign, like the Democrat impeachment cabal are doing, or was he going to give it to the DOJ to follow up on? His mention of Barr during the call suggests the latter, which discredits this entire narrative.

By including Barr in the conversation, Trump ASSURED that the legalities would be obeyed. There are justifiable concerns that Biden and his son broke the law, by Biden's own bragging. If Ukraine validates that, then Barr has grounds for legal action. Trump, as President, has every right to press for an investigation. If the evidence doesn't support it, Barr will not proceed. You can count on that.
The dems have been investigating Trump, without any evidence, for 4 years. There IS evidence about the Bidens. You would think a little investigation of dems would be a healthy thing.
Paul, of course, has become quite the annoyance. Being a Never Trumper rots your mind.

Trump told everyone at the outset that he didn't believe in tipping his hand to the enemy, and he may well consider most of the diplomatic corps to be in that category.
He doesn't owe anyone an explanation nor a peek into the processes by which he decides.
Arrogance doesn't like to submit to chain of command.

I am to the point that Mirengoff isn't worth bothering with. His TDS makes all his assumptions and starting points invalid and the whole exercise is a waste of everyone's time.

First of all, if the "two dedicated, experienced career foreign policy officials" were truly "desperately trying to figure out what the president wanted" all they had to do was ASK.
Second: according to the transcript, (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/read-white-house-transcript-of-trumps-call-with-ukraines-president ) Pres. Trump asked Mr. Zelensky to do him a favor and investigate the whole situation for Crowdstrike and the server the democrats claim was hacked by the Russians. Imagine if the Ukrainians produce the server along with conclusive proof that the Russians did not hack it as the democrats claimed? I submit this issue carries far more danger for them than any investigation of the Biden family.
Also according to the transcript, the "other thing" he referred to was Bidens' son and people wanting to know about Biden bragging that he stopped the former prosecutor Viktor Shokins investigation. He asked Mr. Zelensky to cooperate with our attorney general. He did not ask anyone to investigate Joe Biden as a favor to him or to report back to him for his own personal use.
Treason? Bribery? High Crimes? Misdemeanours?
Pray God this whole awful, stinking, conjured up, deceitful, he-said-she-said, disgusting mess falls flat and ultimately, utterly fails to meet its' objective - whatever that might truly be.

The dems must do this. They have wasted half their term trying to torpedo President Trump. They took great liberties in doing so and now they are coming up empty-handed. Now the holidays are upon us and then we are in the election year. They need this impeachment hearing to explain why they haven't kept any of their promises. That's sweat not rain pouring down their faces. That's why Schiff has those bug-eyes, it's the deer in the headlights look.

The leftist and media "adolation" of several PO'ed unelected bureaucrats, passing along 2nd and 3rd hand information....continues. One wonders, is this all they got? PM is playing his usual devil's advocate from his DC perch. Do Americans need to call "pest control" to clean the corruption and lying out of that place?
