Democrats’ Leftward Turn Was a Reaction
to Hillary Clinton

The consensus view on the right is that Hillary Clinton was a primary reason for Donald Trump’s success in 2016. But not all conservatives agree about why that was.
For devotees of the Trump-as-savior narrative, Clinton — and all the allegedly nefarious forces at her beck and call — was a uniquely formidable opponent. Defeating her required a different kind of Republican, one who’d be willing to fight as dirty and as tough as the Democrats. This was a “Flight 93 election,” and Trump was the hero we needed to storm the cockpit.

Oh Jonah. You make me so weary. Your whole premise for this article was concocted at a round table meeting with like-minded anti-Trump sniffers.
You can posit reasons why we deplorable put President Trump in the White House until your skyward pointed nose drowns you in a rain shower but the simple fact is, we like him.
You need to talk to different people. Come down off that high-minded mountain and live in the real world with the rest of us.
Sheesh Jonah, and I used to like you so much.

Completely wrong reasoning. There was no Hillary in Brexit. Nor in the other elections like Brazil, Australia etc. If you test whiskey and soda, bourbon and soda, rye and soda, the bad effects are not due to soda!

They continue to drink the Klinton-Koolaid. "Herself" is NOT likable, and having a woman, especially that one, in the White House wasn't something the average American was comfortable with electing. Besides, we'd had 8 years of her fool of a husband, and we were "Clintoned out," as a nation.

Donald Trump is an example of Newtonian Physics applied to politics.
He is the equal and opposite reaction to 0bama and all he represents.
The “Flight 93” analogy is most apt. Trump may have never flown the plane before, but at least we knew he wasn’t intent on flying it into the ground with all of us on board.
Americans can deal with a leader who says what he really thinks while insulting our sensibilities.
We will no longer abide posers who say what they want us to hear while insulting our intelligence.

So, Jonah, we voted for Trump because we hated Hillary? While it is unquestionably true that we despised Hillary, it is not why Republicans chose Trump over other candidates. I confess, my primary choice was Cruz. But in hindsight, I was wrong. Cruz could not have captured the heart and soul of an electorate disgusted with the spiraling decline in American cultural values and generations of wishy washy Republican politicians.

These never Trumpers never give up. Yeah, sure, any Republican could have beaten Hillary. In their dreams. Romney, McCain, Bush....all losers and disasters. 0r pick another RINO disaster. Losers!! Hillary would be President today if she had run against any of these fools!! Goldberg and his ilk are almost as bad as the Left in this country. Disgusting elitists, swamp dwellers who would see this country's demise. A Pitiful bunch of inept, hasbeen jerks who have been exposed for the fools they are. It's over Jonah. Take a seat in the back.

Had the dems nominated a more likeable centrist, or even slightly left of center candidate, Trump would have lost. Hillary represented a known corrupt, arrogant, entitled screeching harpy of a politician who's sole rationale for being president was that it was her turn and that she has a vagina. That enabled a largely disliked Trump to pull off the upset if the century. I held my nose and pulled the lever for Trump knowing that if he got out of hand, the republicans would be the first to file articles of impeachment. Had Hillary run, there wasnt a snowballs chance in Miami that she would ever be removed, for any reason.
Trump has turned out to be fantastic, in some part due to never ending democrat opposition. Had they negotiated in good faith, Trump would have governed more as a centrist.

Jonah, Jonah you sound stupid. Hillary Clinton beat Hillary Clinton she was the real Flight 93 that crashed to the ground. Donald J. Trump just helped in kicking her to the curb. Another plus for Trump winning was Obama was a stone around her neck just like the drawers dropping husband Bill Clinton we all had enough and Hillary was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I do agree with Jonah in that I believe Bernie might have beaten Trump. IHMO Hillary lost a ton of support by stealing all of the primary delegates and the Dems greatly cooled their general enthusiasm.
That said, this statement from Jonah leaves me pretty disgusted with Jonah.
"This has consequences for 2020 because the White House’s entire strategy boils down to making Trump’s opponent more unlikable than he is."
Jonah has made a completely catty and childish conclusion. I could not disagree more.
Trump is doing a tremendous job of telling the world how America is winning. Jonah can't bring himself to acknowledge it. Jonah's conclusion is pathetic and cowardly.

Jonah in case you didn't hear the announcement, do not take the brown acid.
FTA: "This has consequences for 2020 because the White House’s entire strategy boils down to making Trump’s opponent more unlikable than he is."
Uh no. When you sober up go back and watch the tape. Trump's strategy is to:
Make America Great Again and Keep America Great!! He cut taxes and regulations unleashing the beast to achieve the grandest economic recovery in our history. He stopped bending over and taking the unfavorable trade practices as if we owed planet earth a perpetual Marshall plan.
He has been doing everything in his power to keep the intersection between the welfare state and open borders from having the designed, inevitable and highly predictable result of destroying everything we have worked for.
He has made it clear that we will not meddle in the affairs of other nations but we stand ready to strike at our enemies opposed to bowing down and apologizing for our greatness.
That my boy is a wee bit more that being less unlikeable. Let me know how that 12 step program works out for you.

Adults in this country always try the ballot box first to change a situation. That is what adults do Jonah. Trump is the result of all you NRO types choosing our candidates for us, and then failing to listen to us and what WE want as voters for our nation. Well this time Jonah, we didn't listen to you empty hat pundits. We went our own way and we liked it. We finally have a President who loves the country, who puts US first, and darn those pesky torpedoes from the media neoclowns and cuckservatives. So go back to your NRO bunker and ivory tower, I am sure that you will find like minded acceptance there.

Am a Huge Jonah fan. But he failed to mention a key reason for PT defeating The Vile Witch. The Beast said she was going to put coal miners on welfare. PT wanted to put them to work. Thank goodness we still have people in this country who'd rather work than sit on the hinny getting checks from the government. Note to Jonah: More humor, less analysis.

Cripes, Jonah, I was a never-Trumper back in the early 80s when he screwed up the USFL. Never read his books, never watched him on TV, wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Thought of him as an egotistical jerk. And maybe he still is one.
And I supported Ted Cruz in 2016 but worried the reign of terror of Emperor Obama the First would continue under Queen Hillary the Wicked.
But when I started listening to Mr Trump, I decided that maybe I'd better hop on the Trump train. Yeah, it can be a bumpy ride but at least it's going in the right direction.

Poor Jonah. His feet are stuck in the concrete of perpetual Never Trumpism and his thinking is stunted.
Yes, Hillary was disgusting and unlike the Never Trumpers I would NEVER vote for her. I would probably NEVER vote for a dem for president. I would probably never stay home on election day because it would be an effective vote for the dem. The time for protests and choice is during the primaries. Once the Republican candidate is selected, that's who you vote for. Sure, there COULD be a really bad Republican nominee but, compared to the dem, that's unlikely to stop me from holding my nose to vote for them.
Yes, I had some doubts that Trump would govern Conservatively. Sure, the horribleness of Hillary made it easy and certain to support Trump.
But NOW is a very different time for those of us not afflicted with TDS. Trump has been president for 2 1/2 years. Trump has turned around the economy and gotten massive tax reform; new employment records are still being set. Real wages for the middle class are rising. Trump has cleared the path for the US to be energy independent and the largest producer of oil and gas in the world. Trump has bulldozed regulations. Trump has liquidated ISIS. Trump has held NATO allies feet to the fire for more equitable funding. Trump has moved our embassy to Jerusalem. Trump has gotten us out of the really bad BO deals of Paris and Iran. Trump has appointed a passel of Conservative judges, including 2 to the SCOTUS. Trump is dealing with NK and has put Iran in a very painful vice. Trump has tried mightily to deal with the border despite dem intransigence and Republican fecklessness. He has embarrassed dem actions and statements that leave them with egg on their faces. Trump has turned the propaganda media into eunuchs. As much as he can, Trump has defanged BOCare leading to reduced costs of insurance. Trump has repeatedly acted presidentially and made some AMAZING speeches. Melania is a beautiful, gracious, and wonderful First Lady. Did you realize that she is an immigrant? DUH!
Trump has triumphed, especially for Conservatives, but in truth, for ALL Americans.
Trump doesn't need to make dems unlikeable. It helps that they are all idiots but compared to Trump's success, NONE of them have a chance. Either they are tired to the recent failed progressive policies of BO or they are Socialists in the time of the Venezuela collapse; both yielding VERY bad optics.
For Conservatives, there is NO other choice in the Country that comes close to Trump. All doubts are gone. Period.
For the mushy middle, Trump has delivered a strong economy for everyone and a strong, proud Country. If you are fair in your assessment, Trump has restored the rule of law instead of the rule of liberal whim.
No Jonah, we don't need a Hillary boogeyman. We need the Never Trumpers to give it up.

"Indeed, Trump’s continued obsession with bashing Clinton points to how central she is to his identity.". Really Jonah? She is obsessed with President Trump. He is not obsessed with her. Typical JG remark. As he sees the world.
He has not changed one bit I see. He seems like he is just begging the left to find someone to beat President Trump. What is wrong with these people?

Hitlery Clinton was untrustworthy. MIddle America was not snookered and dependent upon government for their daily lives, and her crooked dealings and poor character as judged by the voters along with Bannon's carefully crafted winning of key states for the Electoral College victory was the deciding factor in the election. The now out-in-the-open socialist agenda is now embraced and OWNED by the demonrats as they are ALL now clearly for open borders, each trying to GIVE AWAY more than the next candidate, gun confiscation, and promising things they alone cannot deliver. They fall all over themselves to become and amalgam of Nobama and if female, Madam Broomstick herself.
