Emile Durkheim, a French sociologist, famously discussed something called collective effervescence. Durkheim argued that the universal religious dichotomy of sacrilegious and sacred results from the way in which we live of our lives. Unfortunately, most of us spend too many hours performing menial tasks. These tasks are, for lack of a better word, monotonous. The rare occasions on which the masses have a reason to congregate become sacred, and the high energy level associated with these events gets directed onto momentous events and people. Think religious gatherings, sporting events, or even Trump rallies. To millions of Americans, President Trump

You think, “Nope, progressives can’t possibly be any dumber,” and then they proceed to reset the dumbness bar. The latest example is Alyssa Milano, who has publicly announced she’s not going to have sex anymore until people can once again kill babies without restraint. If that’s what counts as foreplay these days, count us conservatives out. The 80s TV teen turned leftist Twitter twerp recently tweeted that “Our reproductive rights are being erased. Who first declared that “demography is destiny” is uncertain, but that doesn’t detract from the aphorism’s validity—and what’s happening in California right now proves it. The state Department of Finance released one of its periodic reports on California population trends this month, revealing that while we’re very close to 40 million residents, growth has slowed to a snail’s pace. California added just 186,807 souls in 2018, the department’s demographers calculated, just a .47 percent gain, the slowest in recorded history and only a quarter of the state’s growth rate during the 1980s,

Former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and a top immigration official challenged a previously secret White House plan to arrest thousands of migrant parents and children in nearly a dozen U.S. cities, Fox News confirmed Monday. The Trump administration wanted to target migrant families that had crossed into the U.S. from Mexico in attempt to show that the U.S. wasn´t going to back down on its border stance by detaining and deporting illegal immigrant families, The Washington Post first reported, citing several current and former Homeland Security officials.

Authorities indicted 96 people and arrested 50 for a marriage fraud operation allegedly taking place in Vietnam and Houston. A months-long Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) probe uncovered a criminal operation that enabled numerous foreign nationals to fraudulently obtain legal immigration status in the U.S., according to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement press release Monday. Under the alleged terms of conspiracy, immigrant beneficiaries would pay around $50,000 to $70,000 to get married and score permanent resident status. The marriages were complete shams, according to the April indictment. The spouses typically met only briefly before

South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg is polling at 0% among black voters in the key early primary state of South Carolina. After coming out of nowhere to emerge as a contender for the 2020 Democratic nomination, Buttigieg has hit a bit of a wall, and one big reason is his failure to appeal to black voters, who make up a substantial portion of the Democratic electorate. This was highlighted in a poll released Sunday by the Post and Courier, which, like many other polls, showed former Vice President Joe Biden well ahead, with 46%, to 15% for Sen.

The marriages were short and not for love. But instead of a Las Vegas-style, alcohol-fueled ceremony, these marriages were criminal schemes. Authorities announced Monday that nearly 100 people have been indicted in a massive conspiracy in which immigrants paid as much as $70,000 to briefly marry a U.S. citizen and obtain a permanent resident card known as a “Green Card.” The indictment, returned by a grand jury in Texas late last month, accuses 96 people of taking part in the Houston-based criminal organization, which created sham marriages between legal U.S. residents and aliens, mostly from Vietnam, for years.

Evidently Democrats need only utter the words "constitutional crisis" for the media to report it as fact. Watch cable “news” these days, and you’ll surely see talking heads parroting the Democratic line that the Trump administration’s noncompliance with House Committee subpoenas amounts to a constitutional crisis. While a small handful of analysts and guest legal scholars disagree, TV hosts continue to push the idea uncritically, with some even urging the alleged crisis be used as grounds for impeachment. The four main carriers in the US -— Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T, which owns CNN’s parent company WarnerMedia — have vowed not to use components, such as chips, from Huawei or other Chinese companies. These larger US companies never relied on Chinese technology when deploying past networks, so it’s a matter of continuing to avoid it going forward.

They lie on the East West Pipeline, able to pump five million barrels of oil a day from the oil-rich eastern province to a Red Sea export terminal. The announcement came hours after Yemen´s Huthi rebels said they had targeted vital

Washington - At a meeting of President Trump’s top national security aides last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said. The revisions were ordered by hard-liners led by John R. Bolton, Mr. Trump’s national security adviser. They do not call for a land invasion of Iran, which would require vastly more troops, officials said. (Snip) It is highly uncertain whether Mr. Trump, who has sought to disentangle the

Once again, freshman leftist Congesswoman Rashida Tlaib has stepped in it, making remarks that have offended people of sound mind around the globe. Not only that, she has continued to make matters worse by calling those she has offended “racist idiots” … as a guest on Seth Meyers’ program last night.Tlaib made the original offensive comment during her Saturday appearance on Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast … There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians — who lost

Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former New York congressman, is officially a free man. The 54-year-old was seen leaving a Bronx halfway house at 6am on Tuesday morning which marked the final day of his 21-month sentence for having illicit contact with a 15-year-old girl. His messages to the girl, which included sexts and shirtless selfies, were exposed by DailyMail.com in September 2016. On Tuesday, Weiner told reporters that he hoped to get back to my family and make up for some lost time.´ ´I hope to be able to live a life of integrity and service, and I’m glad this

Former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and immigration official Ronald Vitiello blocked a White House plan for a large 10-city raid to deport thousands of migrants here illegally, according to the Washington Post. (Snip) the administration wanted to target the crush of families that had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border after the president’s failed “zero tolerance” prosecution push in early 2018. The ultimate purpose, the officials said, was a show of force to send the message that the United States was going to get tough by swiftly moving to detain and deport recent immigrants

If you don’t know the name John Durham now is the time to remember the name, John Durham Here’s why…(Snip) Attorney General William Barr tapped Connecticut’s chief federal prosecutor, John Durham, to assist in an investigation into the origins of the Russia investigation and the FBI’s surveillance activities, a person familiar with the matter said Monday. The person, who is not authorized to comment publicly, said that Durham has been assisting the attorney general for at least a couple of weeks to determine whether federal investigators acted appropriately in the early stages of the now-completed inquiry into

Justice Clarence Thomas wanted to make sure there was no doubt about the heinous crime of Christopher Lee Price, whose attack on an Alabama minister nearly scalped the man, leaving him to a slow and painful death. President Trump is executing one of the most brilliant geopolitical economic resets in the history of global trade. It really is stunningly remarkable how President Trump has controlled the entire landscape. The consequential phase now begins. It is fascinating how the financial pundits didn’t see this coming. Perhaps one of the best indicators of where things are today comes from this quote within the South China Post: “The Administration’s Section 301 tariffs and China’s retaliatory tariffs will now further disrupt – or even break – many thousands of supply chains in both countries.”

The Chinese Communist government does not have so much a strategy to translate its economic ascendance into global hegemony as several strategies. All of them are brilliantly insidious. On matters of trade, China is always flexible in responding to critics of its asymmetrical, 30-year mercantilism. In the initial stages of Westernization, China was exempted from criticism over serial copyright and patent infringement, dumping, and espionage. Western elites assumed that these improprieties were just speed bumps on the eventual Chinese freeway to liberalism. Supposedly the richer China got, the more

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has always been a Janus-faced swamp thing, and as a good swamp thing, he´s a realist with regard to recognizing power shifts. The Mueller report exonerating President Trump has come out, so. unlike the tantruming Democrats (and one stupid Republican), he´s adjusted his political stance to new realities. So, now we see him openly turning on the former FBI director he fired, James Comey, making the latter look like a sanctimonious boob:

Defense attorneys often arouse what John Adams called a “clamor of popular suspicions and prejudices” when representing reviled clients. Just last week, the attorney Christopher Darden stopped representing a California man charged with killing the rapper Nipsey Hussle because people were so upset with his choice of client that they demanded to know his fee and threatened the safety of his children.

PHILADELPHIA -- When Brian Sims first ran for state representative in 2012, he ran as a new pro-business voice. He was going to be a bridge builder, brimming with common-sense ideas on pocketbook issues. He never met that promise. Instead, he became many other things: an outdoor adventurer who climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro; a partisan attack dog who accused fellow state Rep. When most Americans think of Philadelphia -- although probably fewer today than ever before, given the low level of history education in American schools -- they probably think of the founding of the United States, the Liberty Bell and the city´s nickname, the City of Brotherly Love. Having been to Philadelphia at least 20 times, I am among the many Americans who have warm feelings toward America´s founding city. My daily radio show has a large and enthusiastic listener base there, and I have a son who lives nearby. So, it is with no joy that I write about the

What? You don’t know what MySpace is? Just 12 years ago, it was considered a giant, unstoppable social media monopoly that required government intervention to protect consumers. That year, in fact, Victor Keegan wrote a column in the Guardian newspaper with this headline “Will MySpace ever lose its monopoly?” In it, he says that “as the MySpace generation goes into employment, (it) could eventually extend (Rupert) Murdoch’s influence in ways that would make his grip on satellite television seem parochial.” Around the same time, John Barrett, writing in Tech News World, declared that “MySpace Is a Natural Monopoly. “

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s “intellectual acuity” in potentially leading the nation seemed a cause of concern for a former Obama administration official. Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates did not exactly give the 2020 Democratic contender a glowing reference as he simply said he “didn’t know” if Biden would make an effective commander-in-chief, telling CBS News’ Margaret Brennan on “Face The Nation” that he stood by his view that Biden has “been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue” in the last 40 years.Brennan read from Gates’ comments on Biden in his 2015 memoir: Joe

The general public typically equates the Chamber of Commerce with local Mom and Pop businesses in their area which meet for networking and mutual support in local chapters across the country. This is erroneous. According to the Hill: While local chambers cater to the needs of car dealers and restaurant owners, the national Chamber operates as the lobbying arm of large corporations that have never met a big government program they did not like.

It looks like Americans are not the only people following the 2020 presidential contest closely, and that’s causing serious and growing challenges for President Donald Trump. President Trump and his extravagant ego are both out of line in their insistence that he be in charge of, make a speech at, and further increase the already huge size of the annual Independence Day celebration in Washington, D.C. The problem is not so much the idea, in theory, that a nation’s head of state should lead the celebration of the nation’s birthday, in a sort of apolitical way. Instead, the first of several problems is that in the United States, the head of state is also a partisan political leader, and thus by his very nature,

Democrats and Republicans will never agree on the validity of the outcome of the Hillary Clinton investigation. While Clinton backers believe the former secretary of state committed no crime by transmitting classified information through her personal email account, critics counter that former FBI director James Comey’s conclusion that Clinton acted “extremely careless” euphemistically described gross negligence subjecting her to criminal liability. Likewise, the country seems perpetually divided over the question of Russian collusion. Even Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s finding that there was no conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia failed

Engineers at Purdue have built a flying robot to mimic one of the most expert flyers in the natural world: the hummingbird. Drones wish they could fly with the agility and grace of the biological family Trochilidae, which includes all 357 types of hummingbirds. Boasting the flying capabilities of birds and the hovering abilities of insects, they represent an intersection of flying philosophies that scientists are eager to unlock. Hummingbirds could lead to leaps forward for search-and-rescue drones, commercial filming robots, military use, and any other flying venture that is punctuated by quick, unexpected stops and starts.

Rod Rosenstein unloaded on former FBI Director James Comey in remarks to the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) on Monday evening, slamming Comey´s turn as a "partisan pundit," reiterating that he deserved to be fired, and faulting him for trampling "bright lines that should never be crossed." His speech specifically took aim at Comey´s comments earlier this month implying that Rosenstein and Attorney General Bill Barr lacked the "inner strength" to "resist the compromises necessary to survive Mr. Trump." Comey also derided Rosenstein´s "character" and suggested his "soul"
