One hears and reads comments to the effect that Venezuelans "asked for" what they have in the way of strongman government since they voted for it. This is a woefully shortsighted and uninformed view of what´s happening, and what has happened, in the northernmost country of South America. Hugo Chávez, as Barack Obama here, probably did win his first election reasonably cleanly and fairly. It´s not likely he won fairly after that, and it´s certain that Chávez´s anointed successor, Nicolás Maduro, did not win fairly in last year´s elections. We´ve seen this script wherever communism establishes a firm foothold.

A line must be drawn. No longer can the phrase "obstruction of justice" be allowed to mean something obscenely different from what any fair-minded, free person knows it was intended to mean. Are we stepping on the same rakes again -- in Venezuela? Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently tweeted “My message to the Venezuelan people is clear: the United States stands firmly with you in your quest for freedom and democracy.” He also confirmed that the military option is on the table. In other words, the U.S. is ready to liberate the Venezuelan people from themselves. For those who suffer historical amnesia, it is worth pointing out, that the Venezuelans had democratic elections and they have chosen socialism.

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. The millions of Americans who were paying attention throughout the 2020 election campaign all became painfully aware of the fact that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities were slipping and slipping fast. His wife, as the person closest to him, should have been the one to call the campaign quits in order to reduce stress on the man.
Instead, apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified.
