Are we stepping on the same rakes again -- in Venezuela? Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently tweeted “My message to the Venezuelan people is clear: the United States stands firmly with you in your quest for freedom and democracy.” He also confirmed that the military option is on the table. In other words, the U.S. is ready to liberate the Venezuelan people from themselves. For those who suffer historical amnesia, it is worth pointing out, that the Venezuelans had democratic elections and they have chosen socialism.
Another fine mess some Americans are aching to get involved with militarily...to what end? Another decade or two of nation building?
Latin America is bent on taking its resources and allowing the strongman du jour to rake off the best share, and using the rest to finance "socialism". Eventually it falls apart, chaos ensues, and the next strongman grabs hold for all he can get...all through free, certified voting to "restore democracy."
More free stuff, por favor, Senor.

He got part of it wrong. During the last election Maduro lost by 68% or more of the vote, but because he controls the illegal assembly, they gave him the election.

We could try and nation build, but given that there seems to be some genetic trait in people from countries in Central and South America to elect dictators as leaders, it really doesn´t make much sense. I mean it´s not like we haven´t given them an example to follow. We might get someone to run the country fairly well for a few years, but then the people fall into that need for a dictator, and we´re right back to square one.

Our efforts in Venezuela should be restricted to keeping Russia and Cuba out of there, nothing more. They are like jackals on a dead Wildebeest.

If Obama had refused to vacate the white house when Trump was elected, and he even if he got the house of representatives to vote with him on that, the people who voted him out would have to take action. We would not depend on another country to oust our vagrant ex-president who was acting illegally to hold power. The people of Venezuela have to rise up to demand that their vote is enforced.

"Atlas Shrugged" wasn´t just the title, it was the only solution available.
US doing Nation Building to fix Socialist Venezuela? Let´s not forget a Socialist is polling ahead of our President to be the next President of The United States. By the hard numbers we are more likely to save the Socialist dictator than replace him in the next term.

FTA:
America’s democratic aspirations for the region have been embraced by administrations of both parties. Unfortunately, security concerns and democracy have been in conflict. The United States has had a difficult time finding leaders who wouldn’t use democracy as a means to achieve their own dominance and treat it as irrevocable.
Venezuelans had democracy, but they failed to keep it
We must not send one American serviceperson to Venezuela. They must deal with this.
This writer believes sanctions should be removed. Would help the people more than any intervention.

He goes on:
We all have to absorb the historical lessons that socialism cannot be defeated -- it self-destructs. Therefore, we should not interfere with socialism while it is in the process of destroying itself.

When terrorists launch attacks after being trained in Venezuela, I doubt that America will even retaliate. Under no circumstances should we get involved. However, they can get involved with America. That´s the way it works.

I am for leaving the sanctions in place. Otherwise, we are not letting Venezuela fail. They are doing that by themselves.

Absolutely! Let the Socialistas have it- let the Venezuelan people learn a lesson- but, you do realize, when it gets down to little kids with knees like tennis balls and bellies like basketballs, showing up on our TVs, they will all get to come to America, vote in our elections and eventually be elected as Communists to our Senate and House of Representative. That is what this "fail" is really all about!
