Time to stamp out the post office

Comments:

According to the article, “unlike other federal agencies, which receive annual appropriations, the USPS is required to pre-fund retiree health benefits, and this mandate, along with other factors, contributes to the significant unfunded liabilities.” ~ Mr. Thomas has experienced what many other citizens have encountered regarding an unfortunate/disruptive/vexing change in mail service causing a variety of problems that include financial penalties for alleged “late payment” due to late delivery or loss of checks written to cover monthly billing statements. Perhaps the remedy is to roll the USPS into the Department of Commerce.

It is time to eliminate the post office, and go to private delivery services. We already have Fedex, Amazon, UPS, and DPL that come by in the mornings, a half day before the post office arrives around 5PM. My family and friends now send an email to let me know something has been sent. I don't get half of it. The Houston post offices have been rocked by mail theft--by post office employees, and by criminals targeting postal box clusters. I use the postal delivery service as the very last resort, using online billpay, emails, texts, anything preferred over the post office. The post office does not answer any phone calls, nor does it respond to emails, which they say they do, but they don't. We have a different carrier every 6 months, that has a redesigned route about every 6 months, and the deliveries are too often put in the wrong box. Not long ago, I saw a stack of mail in our delivery room on top of the trash can. I guess the workday was over, and the carrier just dropped the mail on the trash can and left.

The USPS is no longer required to pre-fund future retiree health benefits after the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022 They had been in default on the pre-payments since 2012.

I'm so old I can remember when first class stamps went from 3 cent to 4 cents. Time to either change the constitution or cut the Postal Service to two days a week delivery of only first class mail.

I just experienced the 'lost check' syndrome and would have had a penalty if the company hadn't sent me an email that my payment was due that day. I had mailed the check three weeks earlier. Our small town is sorely in need of employees, our mail could come anytime from noon to 5:00 or later. I have to drive to my 'community' mailboxes, it is a pain in the patootie. One time the guy putting the mail in the boxes said he does his regular run first, then does ours on this end of town. I think their salaries are pretty high so I don't know why there are no workers. The ones I have seen have green hair and lots of tats and piercings.

There is a cancer in America’s military ranks, and it must be expunged before it’s too late.
