Newsmax Goes Public and the Rise of Conservative Media

It all began with William F. Buckley, Jr. It is worth noting that 2025 marks the centenary of Buckley’s birth. In 1955, the young Mr. Buckley founded National Review magazine. Famously, he is noted for saying this: “A conservative is someone who stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it.” What could not be seen in 1955 was that Buckley was opening the floodgates on what would come to be known as conservative media. Just a short recall

Amidst all this new conservative media, we are forced to deal with lunatic Democrat judges. We haven't won yet.

Mr. Lord is being awfully generous to Mr. Buckley. For 3 decades after its founding, NR was the only real source of conservative views with national scope. And Mr. Buckley happily ran a weekly television show on Panhandler Broadcasting System, which just goes to show how unconcerned were the liberals of the time that his views would get much traction. In my view, the real break for conservative media began on August 1, 1988 -- the day when President Reagan's FCC rescinded the "Fairness Doctrine" and Rush Limbaugh's radio show began nation-wide syndication. Limbaugh's success bred more success for more regionally syndicated conservatives -- with some of them going national as well -- and ultimately led to dominance of the talk radio airwaves by conservatives. In the mid-1990s, the Fox News Channel brought "fair and balanced" news reporting and conservative news analysis to cable TV. Since Roger Ailes' departure in 2015, Fox's brand has been watered down by the RINO corporate governance of Paul "Eddie Munster" Ryan... Today, it holds onto its audience only because the popularity of personalities like Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity -- both of whom honed their talents in talk radio. The rise of internet also gave us Matt Drudge, who later sold out his business and practically every belief he ever propounded... and he also pimped his website early on with a Sunday evening nationally syndicated radio show. He has since been eclipsed a rising galaxy of conservative websites and social media outlets.

What? I'm stunned that Mr. Lord did not recognize the 'conservative moron' Billy Kristol and his magazine, the Weekly Standard. /s

President Donald Trump on Monday said that “virtually every country wants to negotiate” as his sweeping worldwide reciprocal tariffs are set to take effect Wednesday. While talking with reporters alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump detailed the dynamic that has unfolded since last Wednesday, or as he calls it “Liberation Day,” when he announced the tariff overhaul. (X Video) “I will say this, virtually every country wants to negotiate. If I didn’t do what I did over the last couple of weeks, you wouldn’t have anybody who wants to negotiate,” he said. “We would have gone to these countries, ‘You want to talk?’

Last week, the House was brought to a standstill over a discharge petition on proxy voting, though President Donald Trump weighed in on the matter just days later, prompting Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to figure out a plan. Although Trump said he was in favor of proxy voting for new parents, he also indicated it was up to the speaker. On Friday morning, in a post that began by thanking Trump for his "leadership," also acknowledging how the president relegated the decision-making to him, Johnson warned about how "Democrats tried proxy voting before and it was terribly abused,"

Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was photographed flying first-class to a Bernie Sanders event last month — with critics saying it shows how she battles inequality one “mimosa at a time.” An incredulous passenger snapped AOC getting comfy in the roomy first-class cabin of JetBlue Flt. 511 on March 19 that departed from JFK Airport in Queens for Las Vegas, where she spoke at a Sanders rally titled “Fighting Oligarchy.” (Photo) The next day, the equality-spouting darling of the far left headlined “Fighting Oligarchy” rallied along with her socialist comrade, Sen. Sanders of Vermont, in North Vegas and at Arizona State University in Tempe. “Nothing says, ‘Power to the people’ like ignoring voters

U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts paused a federal judge’s order that required the Trump administration to return an illegal alien who was deported to El Salvador. In a court filing, Roberts wrote that an order from U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, that Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, an illegal migrant from El Salvador, be returned to the United States “no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025,” was “hereby stayed pending” a further order from Roberts or from the Supreme Court.

The Trump administration will be allowed to resume deporting suspected Venezuelan gangbangers under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act after the Supreme Court on Monday lifted a lower court order that blocked the deportations. In a 5-4 decision, the high court ruled that the Trump administration was “likely to succeed on the merits” in a lawsuit filed in a Washington, DC district court challenging the removal of five Venezuelan men under the centuries-old law. “The detainees are confined in Texas, so venue is improper in the District of Columbia,” read the conservative majority opinion.

As former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) once said, some parts of the country are so blue that a "glass of water would win with a ‘D’ next to its name." Though Pelosi at the time was taking a not-so-subtle jab at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) during their well-publicized mini-feud early on in AOC's first year in public office, the statement continues to hold true, as evidenced by the state of California electing notorious Russia collusion hoaxster Adam Schiff in the 2024 elections to serve as their next senator.

On April 1, I brought you the story of a dinner we would have all loved to be a fly on the wall for. Musician Kid Rock, one of President Donald Trump's biggest supporters, brokered a dinner at the White House between himself, UFC CEO Dana White, Trump, and liberal comedian Bill Maher, one of Trump's harshest critics. A few days later, Kid Rock appeared on the Fox News Channel several times to give some of the dinner details. He said that "it could not have gone better." Now, we are finally hearing Bill Maher's initial thoughts on the evening.

On Monday, President Trump met with Israel's leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for talks on a variety of subjects, including (unsurprisingly) Iran. China’s retaliation against President Donald Trump’s tariffs includes more export controls on rare earth minerals, which are vital to electronics and battery manufacturing. The Chinese government said over the weekend that it will maintain its supply of rare earths to the rest of the world stable while limiting U.S. access to the minerals. China is the world’s dominant producer of rare earth minerals, accounting for about 70 percent of the world’s supply at the moment. More precisely, China supplies roughly 60 percent of the raw minerals, but controls almost 90 percent of processing and refining capacity.

In a bold move that champions both economic growth and practical forest management, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Friday that it will greenlight logging in America’s national forests. This decision, spearheaded by USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, follows President Donald Trump’s executive order last month aimed at revitalizing the nation’s timber industry. For Americans, this is a long-overdue step toward restoring common-sense stewardship of our natural resources while bolstering rural economies battered by years of overregulation and neglect.

President Donald Trump is more popular now than before he sent the global markets into a frenzy by enacting sweeping new tariffs. An exclusive DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners survey of over 1,000 registered voters conducted from March 31 to April 3 found that the Republican remains largely popular in the U.S. The poll found that Trump's approval rating rose to 53 percent, a 4-point increase over last week when it was 49 percent. Trump's rising approval rating is surprising given the flak the White House has received over the tariff order signed Wednesday. It is up by 13 points since March 7 among those aged 18 to 29.

Barack Obama has lost his mojo and ruined his brand. It used to be said that President Joe Biden was serving former President Obama’s third term, that his former boss was controlling him from the home he had bought in DC’s ritzy Kalorama neighborhood, two miles from the White House. The feeling was that Obama was the real leader of the Democratic Party and his wife, Michelle, was the secret weapon they would whip out in 2024 to replace Biden and trounce Donald Trump.
