Tariffs Will Make America Rich Again

One of the reasons the United States won World War II was because we could outproduce our enemies. As White House Senior Adviser for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro explained in a Fox News Sunday interview, the American “arsenal of democracy” permitted the Allies to triumph. Navarro said the “military might” of the United States allowed “General George S. Patton” to take “Berlin…with trucks, Jeeps, and tanks that were made in the auto plants of the Midwest.”

Navarro needs to brush up on his history. We didn't take Berlin, the Soviets did. And the US army that was driving toward Berlin was Simpson's Ninth Army, not Patton's Third Army. The Third Army was in southern Germany, far from Berlin.

So many mistakes, so little time. 1. The headline is a lie. Tariffs don't enrich countries; they enrich governments. U S. producers and consumers pay the tariffs 2. General Patton didn't "take" Berlin. The Red Army did. Patton was a great general, but Nazi power was primarily broken in the East. The U.S., France, and the U K. were granted access to West Berlin as part of allied occupation policies. 3. FTA: Trade Advisor Navarro said: "“Message is that tariffs are tax cuts, tariffs are jobs, tariffs are national security, tariffs are great for America, tariffs will make America great again.” No. Tariffs are not tax cuts. Tariffs ARE taxes. Tariffs raise prices on imported goods and disrupt trade. After World War II, trade helped make America great. U S. post war prosperity was partially driven its ability to export into enough markets to absorb America's enormous productive output. Before World War II, tariffs helped trigger the Great Depression.

Michelle Obama reflected on dating her now-husband, Barack Obama, before he started his career and found financial success. During Wednesday’s episode of her “IMO” podcast, the former first lady and her brother/co-host, Craig Robinson, chatted about money in relationships. “Would you be attracted to a guy who’s not financially sound when you meet him?” Robinson questioned, to which Michelle responded, “Uh, I married one.” (Photos) “I left my corporate firm when I met Barack,” she later explained. “I had somebody who was like, ‘I got your back. WASHINGTON — President Trump declared a national emergency Wednesday to impose his sweeping “Liberation Day” tariffs on all imports — with a new 10% baseline rate and harsher levies on dozens of other countries including key allies such as members of the European Union, Japan and Israel. Trump called the move a “Declaration of Economic Independence” and waited until stock trading ended for the day at 4 p.m. to announce the details. (Photos) “This is one of the most important days, in my opinion, in American history. It’s our Declaration of Economic Independence,” the president, 78, said in the Rose Garden.

Katherine Maher will die on this hill, which is both amusingly admirable and totally insane. National Public Radio is biased. Self-identified Democrats occupy all its editorial positions, and she got obliterated on Capitol Hill, where she tried to cast herself as some impartial arbiter of today’s culture. She’s a part of the loony Left, which got brutally exposed by Republicans. Her attempts at deflection were sabotaged by herself; Republicans whipped out her insane tweets showing her adherence to wokeism.

Things didn't go according to plan for Republicans on Tuesday in Wisconsin. In an all-important Supreme Court race, liberal Susan Crawford prevailed, beating Brad Schimel by a sizable margin despite everyone from President Donald Trump to Elon Musk getting involved. The stakes were high, given the far-reaching political implications. Crawford's win gives the Democrats a 4-3 majority, and it is expected that they'll force congressional redistricting that will cost Republicans two House seats before the 2026 election even takes place. With the margin already so thin, that could prove decisive in who gets the majority.

Michigan union workers are hailing President Donald Trump’s tariffs on foreign-made cars, telling a crowd in the Rose Garden on Wednesday evening that the president’s economic nationalist agenda will revitalize communities gutted from decades of free trade policies. During the speech, Trump brought up a man named Brian — a leader in the United Auto Workers (UAW) — who said the 25 percent tariffs on all foreign-made cars will drive an economic boom in areas like Macomb County, Michigan, and save American industry.

Even as President Trump's approval on the economy slips, his support on immigration remains strong. Americans solidly approve of his mass deportations policy, knowing full well that millions of people were allowed to enter the country illegally under the Biden administration. Millions of convicted and accused criminals, as well as people with standing deportation orders, are among them. Quite frankly, these numbers are a good start, but they're just a start, given what the new president's team and inherited and the enormity of the resulting task at hand:

Private-sector job growth accelerated in March, according to data released Wednesday by ADP, countering gloomy predictions that tariffs would slam the brakes on the labor market. Instead, hiring came in stronger than expected, with 155,000 jobs added across the U.S. economy—even as corporate media and left-leaning economists warn daily of a looming slowdown. Professional and business services led the way with 57,000 new jobs, followed by financial activities with 38,000 and manufacturing with 21,000. “Despite policy uncertainty and downbeat consumers, the bottom line is this: The March topline number was a good one for the economy and employers of all sizes, if not necessarily all sectors,” said Nela Richardson,

A fed-up Gov. Ron DeSantis let loose on Tuesday, slamming Florida House Republicans for failing to pass a variety of conservative priorities despite having a massive majority. He also ripped what he called "petty" attempts to oppose him because he recently forced the rewriting of a Republican-backed amnesty bill that would have stripped the governor of his power to fight illegal immigration. Things kicked off with a pre-recorded video of DeSantis noting the failure of Florida House Republicans to pass property tax relief. Instead, they've been focusing on parking spots and office space as a way to punish Sen. Ashley Moody for taking his side on the immigration issue.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Wednesday suggested that Canada would drop its tariffs on U.S. goods if President Donald Trump eased up on his tariffs on Canadian goods. During an appearance with CNBC’s Ross Sorkin, he stated that the impending tariff war is “just going to hurt American jobs” and that Trump “said he was going to create jobs, create wealth, reduce inflation.” Sorkin asked whether Ford believed it was fair that Canada has “tariffs on a whole number of products.” Ford replied, “And we’d be willing to take those off tomorrow if he took all the tariffs off” and suggested that “China is the problem.”

Even Bernie Sanders, back in 2008, is on tape saying that government waste should be excised. Why such hostility now?
