Late last night, President Trump signed an executive order "to end collective bargaining with Federal unions" at more than two dozen government agencies. In theory this puts an end to collective bargaining for more than half of all federal workers.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday evening abolishing union rights at more than two dozen federal agencies and offices, in a major expansion of the administration’s efforts to shrink the federal government.
The White House cited national security concerns for terminating workers’ ability to bargain collectively, but the order applies at agencies with both direct and indirect links to national security.

I'm torn here. Yes, many of the problems in civil service are caused by the union and the inept, lazy dolts they represented. It was a frequent headache and always did cause more work for those who actually felt like working. At the same time, I've worked for some petty tyrant supervisors who will take this as a green light to run roughshod over everyone to make up for their bad marriages, speeding ticket, drinking problems or whatever. Sure glad I'm retired.

EOs are only good when the party issuing them remains in power.
Congress needs to get in gear and start passing laws to make them permanent.

The Loony Left thinks of him as Wreck-It Donald but he has built more confidence and integrity into the US Government in three months than Obama and Biden were able to do in over a decade. Has there ever been a good union in any US business or any government agency? NO. All of the big ones have had either Democrat or Mafia ties.

Surely you jest, #5. Congress's job description is only to hold rancorous hearings, and get their mugs on TV. Real legislation is now done by EO, and edicts from agencies like the EPA (which Trump is dismantling).

Feeding at the trough, oh, feeding at the trough... they will come rejoicing, feeding at the trough. Brings to mind... what do the members of our Congress do differently from that?? It appears they pass bills to give away lots of money... with percentages coming back to them.

Allowing government unions (especially those that negotiate wages) have been a stupid idea since they have been set up. The link between working for the government and the government having the responsibility for negotiating with the unions opens the door WIDE for corruption. This is why you have all the government and teacher (who also work for government) unions solidly backing dems. The dems have been in charge either through elections or through the bureaucracy and make sure the unions get what they want. The unions support their benefactors. It's inevitable.
Republicans often are the voice of reason on spending and union employees do NOT want to hear it. Unions formed originally to get fair wages and working conditions. But that has long been replaced by coercive demands for wages with the threat of stopping work and damaging the business. The wages and benefits exceed the workers value to the business, forcing companies to raise prices and become uncompetitive. It's a similar result as forcing fast food companies to pay a excessive wage. The companies lay off workers and raise prices to compensate. The higher prices drive away business. It's bad for everyone except the dem politicians who get the support of the unions and the unions who can play up to their members (al least the ones who still have jobs).
Politics and unions, especially relating to wages and benefits, are a toxic mix.
Trump is bold to take this on.

A gutsy move. Let’s see how long it lasts. EO’s are only good as long as he’s in office. We have to get this change assed through Congress.

Letting government workers form unions was ALWAYS a very serious error. This is a good thing.

Even FDR knew government unions made no sense. Unions force business owners to share profits with the workers. But if the workers/unions force too hard they run the risk of putting the business out of business and thus they end up with no jobs. That serves as a check on how far the unions can go.
BUT government unions have no such boundary. They can demand any amount of compensation and have little risk of the government going out of business. Consequently government workers are now the highest paid workers in the country with compensations effectively double private business workers.

Federal workers used to have pretty good benefits and job protection and they got greedy and wanted to have unions and be like every other union worker and that means they are subject to lack of work terminations. They need to sign up for union benefits and "Welcome to the real world".

My first job out of college was as a civilian employee for the Army. There was one woman in the office who spent the entire day working on crossword puzzles. She and her husband were moving at the end of the year, and she proudly bragged that she was doing nothing. Well, then her husband filed for divorce, and she needed the job. Her next review was honest - she spent months doing nothing. She went to the union, and they sided with her. The union threatened to file a discrimination lawsuit against the managers if they didn't change it - so they did. This is exactly why we need to get rid of unions.

Great!!!...there is no place for union bargaining in the government...it is a threat to national security...and some big shot leader could call some shot.....at a crucial time....WE need smart people in our government...not mobsters....like Hoffa ...who was never found dead or alive...why???...because he controlled the money of the teamsters...and no one wanted to give it back to him when he got out of jail and wanted back in the teamsters......

I’ve always considered federal unions unconstitutional because union workers essentially get to vote twice, once for their representatives to try pass legislation for their benefit, then their unions get to negotiate with the government for their benefit, something ordinary people can’t do. FDR supported civilian unions but not government unions. If you think about it, it’s an outrage that government unions exist. It’s a slap in the face to taxpayers.

the slugs in the senate refuse to pass the doge spending from eo's into law.
chuckie cheezie received legislation from the house to protect sensitive
--and very costly --consumer info, from being bought by data aggregators
who sell it on-illegally- into the wrong hands, for even more money.
to date, he's blocked that bill--at what profit, one might ask?
govt unions have more punch than doge or consumers...
and more off-shore visits to the caymans , possibly?
