The financial markets have been tanked by the threat of economic damage from President Trump’s tariffs–or that is the narrative, anyway. Democrats are hoping for a full-blown recession, which they are already labeling the “Trump recession.” But perhaps stocks have mostly pulled back a little from high valuations, as happens all the time.
As of today, the Dow is down 3.3% from January 20, when Trump was inaugurated. The S&P is down 4.6%, and the tech-heavy NASDAQ, whose companies are least likely to be affected by tariffs, but whose prices were generally considered to be most over-valued a few months ago, is down 7.9%. Not exactly Black Tuesday territory,

Maybe you've seen this already. It seems to be everywhere today so we might as well talk about it. Just over a week ago the Trump administration announced a series of strikes on the Houthis in Yemen.
The US has launched a "decisive and powerful" wave of air strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, President Donald Trump has said, citing the group's attacks on shipping in the Red Sea as the reason.
"Funded by Iran, the Houthi thugs have fired missiles at US aircraft, and targeted our Troops and Allies," Trump said on social media, adding that their "piracy, violence, and terrorism" had cost "billions" and put lives at risk.

Last week was spring break for students at Columbia University. That means students were off campus when the school effectively conceded to the Trump administration and promised to put in place many changes to how things operate going forward.
Columbia University students were stepping into a new campus environment Monday after their university announced sweeping policy changes while they were away on spring break, seemingly bowing to the Trump administration’s demands over the release of $400 million in federal funding to the school...
The new rules effectively ban protests inside and immediately outside academic buildings, and all demonstration activity is subject to the university’s antidiscrimination and anti-harassment policies.

Incendiary devices were discovered at a Tesla dealership in Austin, Texas, on Monday morning, authorities said, the latest in widespread acts of violence targeting the electric carmaker.
Officers with the Austin Police Department responded to the dealership along U.S. Highway 183 just after 8 a.m. when they found the "suspicious devices," authorities told Fox News Digital.
The bomb squad was called in to investigate.
"The devices, which were determined to be incendiary, were taken into police custody without incident," a police statement said. "This is an open and ongoing investigation."

Washington — Top Trump officials including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance allegedly discussed the details of a highly sensitive operation to bomb Houthi targets in Yemen in a group chat that inadvertently included Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of The Atlantic, Goldberg wrote on Monday.
As a Cabinet meeting unfolded at the White House on Monday afternoon, Goldberg published a piece detailing how he was added to the chat on the encrypted messaging app Signal earlier this month by an account sharing the name of White House national security adviser Mike Waltz. Later, Goldberg said an account named "Pete Hegseth"

Democrats' long-term strategy for electoral dominance depends on capturing three demographic groups (as they define them): the youth vote, the minority vote, and AWFLs.
They are losing their grip on two out of the three--rapidly. AWFLs are their most reliable group, and if you expand the definition to include increasingly effeminate men who are overeducated and who value virtue signaling as much as AWFLs, the Democrats have a lock on this demographic grouping. In fact, their lock is getting stronger, not weaker, over time.

Calling their current predicament the "Dems' dark, deep hole," Axios reported Monday that Democrats "fear things could actually get worse," and do you prefer your champagne dry and chilled or as part of a mimosa?
That last part was my own, naturally.
Typical for Axios, the article by Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei was long on laundry list items and short on writing, but the list of Democrat woes looks like somebody just got their first credit card and a Costco membership. In addition to the party enjoying its lowest favorability ever, Democrats have "no popular national leader to help improve it."

FBI Director Kash Patel, who also serves as acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, has outlined plans to move as many as 1,000 ATF agents to the FBI, cutting ATF’s agents by more than a third, three people briefed on the plan told CNN.
The move represents a major cutback of the ATF, an agency that long has been in the crosshairs of gun rights groups that believe its work infringes on Second Amendment rights. The ATF has about 2,600 agents and more than 5,000 employees, a number that has remained largely unchanged for years.
The move is expected to begin

Two of the top conservative thinkers in America are Ben Shapiro, the head honcho of The Daily Wire, and Morton Blackwell, the lead dog of the Leadership Institute. Shapiro is more famous, but Blackwell is probably more influential: The Leadership Institute has been around since the late 1970s, training tens of thousands of conservative activists. Included amongst its alumni are GOP senators, congressmen, governors, cabinet members… and at least one PJ Media writer (Hi!).
As for Shapiro, he’s matured into a leading voice for conservatism. His proficiency with social media is widely admired (and often copied), but seldom equaled. Of all the voices in media, he’s the closest thing

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) claimed Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that in 2026, congressional Republicans “will feel like rats on a sinking ship.”
Host Kristen Welker said, “Some Democrats are saying they want leadership to show more fight in this moment. They think that’s what’s required and you were instrumental in urging President Biden out of the 2024 race when he wasn’t convinced. I’ve had conversations with Democrats who says this moment feels similar. Are you making the same mistake that President Biden did?”
Schumer said, “No absolutely not. I did this out of conviction. in my caucus we have a disagreement

Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Trump border Czar Tom Homan said they will follow court orders while targeting criminals for deportation.
Host Jonathan Karl said, “You said, I quote, I don’t care what judges think. Now, I know you have since said that the administration will abide by court orders. We heard Donald Trump say the same thing. So what do you mean when you say, I don’t care what judges think?”
Homan said, “I don’t care what that judge thinks as far as this case, we’re going to continue to arrest public safety threats and national security threats. We’re going to continue to deport them from the United States. I understand
