WASHINGTON - The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week, pointing to low layoffs though job opportunities are becoming scarce for those who are out of work. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 16,000 to a seasonally adjusted 207,000 for the week ended Jan. 25, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 220,000 claims for the latest week. OP said almost exactly what I was thinking: expect to see a lot more headlines like this where it's good numbers which were unexpected rather than bad numbers.

WASHINGTON — As the Democratic National Committee prepares to elect a new chair, its departing leader says Democrats should have stuck with Joe Biden in the 2024 race. In an interview with The Associated Press, Jaime Harrison reflected on why his party lost to Donald Trump and what might have happened had then-Vice President Kamala Harris had more time to campaign after Biden ended his reelection bid following a disastrous debate performance. He also offered advice to his eventual successor, who will be chosen Saturday. The next DNC chair, Harrison said, needs to insist that the party not be a ''rubber

WASHINGTON — One of three liberals on a Supreme Court dominated by conservatives, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said she has found an outlet for the frustration that can result from being in the minority on the nation’s highest court: boxing. “I take boxing lessons,” Jackson said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press at the Supreme Court. “And I think that helps you to really get out any frustrations.” There have been more than a few dissents for the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, including the end of affirmative action in college admissions and a grant of

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted 56-42 to confirm former Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, tasked with rolling back climate rules from former President Joe Biden that were aimed at slashing emissions from vehicles, power plants and factories. President Donald Trump picked Zeldin, 44, to lead EPA's deregulation efforts, lifting hurdles on oil and gas drilling and reversing course on the Biden administration's emissions rules aimed at spurring more electric vehicle use. Three Democrats voted to back the former New York representative, Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, as well as Pennsylvania Senator

Nearly a dozen people could be seen standing outside the parking lot of an office in Delray Beach called BI Incorporated, a company which according to its website, supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with operating the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program, an alternative to detention known as ISAP. DENVER, Co. — The city of Denver is preparing for what some have said could be mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. Now, federal prosecutors say they will investigate anyone who stands in the way of beefed-up enforcement of immigration laws. Mayor Mike Johnston said in a statement among other things, Denver will cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in cases of violent criminals. The city will also notify ICE of a pending release if the federal agency requests that notification. “The whole state is bound by our state law in this, which is pretty consistent in some of these

‘Tis the season to be…..coffee badging? The new year traditionally marks the time a fresh crop of U.S. corporations requires employees to return to the office after many businesses allowed their staffs to work remotely at the start of the COVID-10 pandemic five years ago. And that means it’s also the season for workers to try to beat the system. What does the term coffee badging mean? Many are “coffee badging,” or swiping their ID badges at the office to record their arrival, staying 30 minutes or so - long enough to greet colleagues and grab a cup of coffee

In 2020, it was 51 lying intelligence officials who were quarterbacked by Anthony Blinken to pull off the greatest election fraud in American history. It was Tony Blinken who was in charge of collecting signatures from corrupt and partisan Trump-hating intelligence officials to sign off on the letter that the laptop was a Russian op.

This decision by the US Army to withhold the name of the third member of the Black Hawk helicopter crew involved in the Reagan air disaster was never going to last. It’s the worst aviation accident in years. All 67 individuals involved perished—and the Army's initial refusal to release the name led to conspiracy theories and incidents of misidentification. There’s a balance between privacy and transparency—I get it. The family needed time to mourn, but the Army refusing to release the female pilot’s name was never a sustainable position. They finally caved and released her name tonight: Capt. Rebecca Lobach (via NY Post):

The doomed military helicopter that collided with an American Airlines flight over Washington, DC, Wednesday night was conducting training to prepare for a catastrophic event or attack on the US, according to officials. The crew aboard the UH-60 Black Hawk chopper, the 12th Aviation Battalion, is responsible for top-secret evacuation missions meant to whisk top US officials from DC to secure locations in the case of a national emergency such as a terrorist or nuclear attack. In a press conference on Thursday night, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the soldiers “were on a routine, annual re-training of night flights on a standard corridor for a continuity of government mission.”

The president addressed the media after the tragic air disaster at Reagan National Airport on January 29, which led to the deaths of 67 people. It’s the worst aviation incident in years. Trump called out the former transportation secretary and then went on a prolonged critique of DEI initiatives under Biden, which included hiring brain-damaged people and those with mental and intellectual disabilities. The latter part is what triggered the Left, and Mayor Pete is very left-wing:
