NEW YORK — Top Department of Justice officials under President Donald Trump have been talking with Manhattan prosecutors about dropping criminal charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. The conversations between DOJ and both the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the mayor’s legal team were first reported by The New York Times. Adams is facing a five-count bribery case that he has characterized as political retribution from the Biden administration for his criticisms of the former president’s handling of immigration. He pleaded not guilty in September.

I don't know if he is guilty of the 4 counts, but I feel assured that he was charged because he made a stink about Illegals in New York.

Don't do it, Trump. I know you're the President of all the people, but this man is still responsible for the murder and mayhem committed by the illegal aliens in his city. Adams' situation should be on page 1,200,000 of all the things Trump needs to do.

If the charges were a political hit job by the Biden administration, drop the charges. On the other hand, it there is merit to the charges, prosecute him.

Ukrainian forces killed a top North Korean commander in a brutal battle in Kursk, as fierce fighting continues in the region, it's been reported. Putin has assembled an army of around 60,000 that includes some 12,000 North Koreans in the border region. The Russians are desperately trying to drive off their territory some 20,000 Ukrainians. However, Zelensky's soldiers are putting up stiff resistance and continue to inflict huge casualties on their enemy. Ukraine's 22nd Mechanised Brigade wiped out a battalion of North Korean special forces in intense fighting around the village of Malaya Loknya in recent days.

When, in March 1983 in a nationally televised speech, Ronald Reagan proposed the Strategic Defense Initiative, he asked the American “scientific community” — “those who gave us nuclear weapons” — “to turn their great talents to the cause of mankind and world peace, to give us the means of rendering these nuclear weapons impotent and obsolete.” Reagan was proposing SDI as an alternative to the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction that he found personally repugnant. From the beginning, however, SDI was controversial. Opponents said it would cost too much, or lead to a renewed arms race, or scare the Soviets into striking first.

The Senate confirmed former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum as Interior secretary Thursday in a 79-18 vote, with the majority of Senate Democrats joining every Republican in the chamber. Burgum, a one-time candidate for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination-turned-visible Trump campaign surrogate, has been among the president’s least controversial nominees. He advanced out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee last week in a nearly unanimous vote, with only Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) voting against the nomination. Wyden, the mastermind of the renewable energy tax credits within the Inflation Reduction Act, cited President Trump’s opposition to the cuts

Jontay Porter may not have been the only NBA player involved in manipulating performance for sports bettors. Federal investigators are looking into unusual betting activity relating to current Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier during his time with the Hornets, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The 30-year-old Rozier left a March 23, 2023 game after less than 10 minutes played against the New Orleans Pelicans and received a strong amount of betting interest on his Unders for the game. Rozier has not been accused of a crime or wrongdoing, the report said.

U.S. senators’ private concerns with Tulsi Gabbard’s history of unconventional national security views burst into public view on Thursday when the director of intelligence nominee — a former Hawaii congresswoman, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, and lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve — sat before the Senate Intelligence Committee for a tense confirmation hearing that did little to dispel the narrative that her path to confirmation remains narrow. Senate Republicans have a 53-seat majority this Congress and Vice President JD Vance can break a tie in a confirmation vote on the floor. Senator Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) brought up an FBI memo listing Catholic parishes the bureau believed harbored extremists and could offer opportunities for recruiting informants. The memo, which was leaked by former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin, targeted “Radical Traditionalist Catholics” and was authored by the FBI’s Richmond field office. On January 29th, 2025, the United States suffered its first hull loss of a passenger airliner since the Colgan crash of 2009. Tragically, 67 people appear to have perished after a mid-air collision between a CRJ-700 regional jet operated by PSA (contracted by American Airlines) and a military UH-60 Blackhawk. The CRJ was flying a circling approach to runway 33 at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), which sits directly across the river from the nation's Capitol. In layman's terms, they were flying down the Potomac with the end of the approach being a low-altitude left turn onto short final to land

We could also ask how well it’s going for Republicans. But what fun is that? Earlier today, the New York Times reported that Democrats can’t decide on the next steps after an embarrassing national-election loss. Should they make some significant changes, or stay the course and hope that Donald Trump will make them look better in comparison? Well, Quinnipiac just dropped a big data point on that question: Just 31 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party, while 57 percent have an unfavorable opinion, the lowest mark since Quinnipiac started asking that question. In the opposite direction, Republicans have a new high in Quinnipiac

A California bill that would allow higher education institutions to prioritize slave descendants in college admissions is drawing harsh critique from some civil rights experts. Introduced in December, the bill, AB 7, is a project of Democrat Assemblymember Isaac Bryan who represents part of Los Angeles. If passed, it would allow the state’s two public higher education systems, the California State University and the University of California, as well as private colleges and universities to “consider providing a preference in admissions to an applicant who is a descendant of slavery, as defined, to the extent it does not conflict with federal law.”

Any NYT reader looking at the buzzy front page headline below would immediately think that Robert F Kennedy Jr. is a madman. Can he really be an advocate for repealing the polio vaccine, a disease that has killed and crippled tens of millions of kids? “Kennedy’s Lawyer Has Asked the F.D.A. to Revoke Approval of the Polio Vaccine” To the ordinary reader, the headline says pretty clearly that Kennedy asked his lawyer to revoke the polio vaccine. The headline makes the shocking accusation that Kennedy is in favor of banning the polio vaccine. There is no other way of interpreting it. But it is flagrantly false and a gross distortion of the truth.
