Speaker Mike Johnson is replacing Rep. Mike Turner as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee after a debacle that started with a warning about Russian space nuclear technology last year, a source familiar with the decision confirmed to Fox News Digital.
Johnson, R-La., was unhappy with Turner, R-Ohio, after a seemingly unexpected warning he issued about the need to declassify information about Russian anti-satellite technology.
A hawk by nature, Turner sometimes went up against the Trumpist wing of his Republican Party on matters like support for Ukraine aid and Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
The decision to replace Turner took many by surprise.

President Joe Biden bade 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue adieu in a roughly 18-minute long Oval Office address Wednesday evening, five days before his predecessor and 2020 general election opponent, President-elect Donald Trump, is set to take office.
In his final address to the American people, Biden thanked the public for the honor of serving as president and wished Trump “success,” before pivoting to an ominous message about the alleged threat posed by a newly ascendant American oligarchy.
“Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights, the freedoms and the fair shot for everyone to get ahead,” Biden said.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday seemed open to a Texas law aimed at blocking kids from seeing online pornography, though the justices could still send it back to a lower court for more consideration of how the age verification measure affects adults’ free-speech rights.
Texas is among more than a dozen states with such laws aimed at blocking young children and teenagers from viewing pornography. The states argue the laws are necessary as online porn, including hardcore obscene material, has become almost instantaneous to access on smartphones online.

The Georgia State Ethics commission slapped a record $300,00 fine on a nonprofit founded by Stacey Abrams Wednesday for failing to disclose millions of dollars the entity spent to aid her failed 2018 gubernatorial campaign. Democratic Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock ran the New Georgia Project, an allegedly nonpartisan voting advocacy nonprofit founded by Abrams, during the time the entity illegally aided Abrams’ 2018 campaign until his run for Senate in 2020, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. The nonprofit and the New Georgia Project Action Fund, a closely aligned nonprofit, spent a combined $3.2 million registering voters and attempting to persuade thousands of Georgians

Talk about "hit the ground running."
President-elect Donald Trump has virtually redefined the pre-presidency more than any soon-to-be president in U.S. history. From corporation after corporation running away from DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) insanity to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's announcement that Facebook would kick its notorious "fact-checkers" to the curb in favor of free expression to now, an apparent breakthrough in hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas, Trump and his team continue to amaze.

Flights on private jets, visits to nightclubs, and luxury-brand clothing are certainly attractive to a certain kind of conspicuous consumer. Rapper Lil Wayne (Dwayne Carter Jr.) is free to make such purchases on his own dime.
Those millions are harder to justify on taxpayer expense, however. Yet a recent Business Insider investigation discovered that the rapper took advantage of a Covid relief program to secure $8.9 million, which he spent on these and other dubious items, including, inter alia, “nearly $15,000 worth of flights and luxury hotel rooms for women whose connection to Lil Wayne’s touring operation was unclear,

The last we heard from Sheldon Whitehouse, he was pursuing his obsession with Brett Kavanaugh's high-school social calendar and preparing to blow the lid off of "boofing." (Pun very much intended, of course.) Today, the Democrat from Rhode Island graciously took a few minutes away from those pursuits and his race-restricted social club to question Pam Bondi about ... wait for it ... the weaponization of law enforcement.
Seriously? Does anyone within the Senate Democrat caucus actually prepare for these confirmation hearings, or do they just wing it?
Bondi took the opportunity that Senator Boof Truther (D-RI) handed her on a silver platter:

DOHA/JERUSALEM - Israel and Hamas agreed to a deal to halt fighting in Gaza and exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, an official briefed on the deal told Reuters on Wednesday, opening the way to a possible end to a 15-month war that has upended the Middle East.
The agreement follows months of on-off negotiations brokered by Egyptian and Qatari mediators, with the backing of the United States, and came just ahead of the Jan. 20 inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Israeli troops invaded Gaza after Hamas-led gunmen broke through security barriers and burst into Israeli communities on Oct. 7, 2023, killing 1,200 soldiers and civilians

The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it’s banning the use of Red No. 3, a synthetic dye that gives food and drinks their bright red cherry color but has been linked to cancer in animals.
The dye is still used in thousands of foods, including candy, cereals, cherries in fruit cocktails and strawberry-flavored milkshakes, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a food safety advocacy group that petitioned the agency in 2022 to end its use. The FDA’s decision marks a victory for consumer advocacy groups and some U.S. lawmakers who have long urged the FDA to revoke the additive’s approval, citing ample evidence that its use

President-elect Donald Trump’s political accounts could reportedly be brimming by the summer of 2025 with as much as $500 million.
Trump’s cash position could help prevent him from becoming a lame duck president, fund 2026 America First candidates, and extend his influence into the political sphere after his term ends.
“The money is just pouring in at Mar-a-Lago. Trump doesn’t have to lift a finger. Everyone’s coming to him,” an anonymous Trump adviser told Axios.

Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth faced a grueling hearing by the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday; while no minds were changed, Hegseth's performance probably ensured his confirmation (see Pete Hegseth's Confirmation Hearing Starts in 30 Minutes, This Is What You Need to Know). In my view, Hegseth showed a respect for the process it probably didn't deserve. He came prepared, and when he wasn't the subject of libelous and defamatory attacks — Hawaii's Mazie Hirono actually accused him of rape — he engaged with senators on the panel. No one could doubt his enthusiasm and zeal for the job.
This is Hegseth's opening statement.
