The last hope for a small glimmer of sanity in the years-long saga of the lawfare warriors against President Trump has been extinguished by a 5-4 vote of the United States Supreme Court in the following order, handed down late on the evening before the day the Democrats will have their most fervent wish granted: that President Trump will start his second term as president of the United States as a “convicted felon”:
(ORDER LIST: 604 U.S.)
THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2025
ORDER IN PENDING CASE
24A666 TRUMP, DONALD J. V. NEW YORK,

Any action taken by any officer of the DOJ, or it's Leo's not following the Constitution is null and void. Trump will wear his "convictions" as the badge of honor they represent - an enduring commitment to service and sacrifice for We the People of the United States.

Roberts' vote was expected. But e' tu Amy? Trump stood up for you and Kavanaugh like no other President has ever supported and stuck with his appointees. And you do this? What garbage. Does anyone know who recommended Barrett to Trump? What a huge disappointment.

The SC disgraced themselves today, throwing themselves in bed with the likes of Merchan and Alvin Bragg, not very good company for anyone that thinks anything of their reputation. The cowardice of Roberts and Barrett is palpable. You have ruined your reputation and for what? The voters have already entered their judgement on this case by elected Trump as the 47th President, dismissing all the lawfare cases as political scuttlebutte. Heroes are that because they rise to the occasion, but you chose to sink to join the company of the corrupt and evil. Enjoy your new friends.

The test is not whether they rule in favor of Trump, but whether they apply the law correctly. It is actually better that they demonstrate their independence.

Advice to future Republican Presidents: No more Sandra Day O'Connor's, no more Amy Coney Barrett's. Period.
That definition of insanity, right?

It's becoming clearer after almost every decision by the Supreme Court that the one of the justices seated during Trump's first term are not conservative at all. It looks like the Supreme Court is not a majority conservative court but leans liberal.

SCOTUS typically avoids political cases until they have run through "the process" so that issues can be adjudicate at the lowest court level possible. They want to only deal with the cases which haven't been solved at lower levels.

The US being run by a “felon” whose status was engineered by his political opposition sure beats the US being run by a complete IDIOT and her communist entourage,.

The SC ruled on the merits of the request for a stay, not the elements of the trial. The specific improprieties and procedural issues of the trial will work through the appeals process and may yet, properly wind up before the SC. It was not a task for the SC to rule based on denying democrat talking points. Trump will win on appeal, whether at the state or federal levels, and the whole sordid mess will fade away, with Trump sitting in the White House. Trump didn't seem especially bothered by the ruling.

#13 Is correct. Trump WILL win, does not need SCOTUS, especially if it is premature and the case has not even been to lower courts yet.

It's no big deal. Obama was President for 8 years, the only born Kenyan to hold the office.

I expected this verdict, but not the way the Supremes voted.
Very strange.

"no president in the future will ever be immune from this kind of scalp-hunting inanity"
I'm not sure this is true. Trump will appeal and his assault on the NY perpetrators should be vigorous. He should demand the maximum compensation for his trouble and maximum sanctions against the NY justice system for the political show trial it carried out. There should be maximum public exposure and embarrassment for NY for what they did. As President, Trump has the political spotlight to shine on them for maximum effect.
If the SCOTUS had slammed the brakes on, none of the above might happen and NY could slink away to do it all again someday.

Names and terms mean nothing. It took them four years to get that "convicted felon" label put on Donald Trump but he is still going to the White House and those lawfare participants will be tarnished criminals for the rest of their lives. The eventual appeal will nullify even that because there was no crime, no proof and no conviction by a legitimate jury. I hope they enjoyed the circus because it's leaving town.

The Supremes did make a decision. They decided not to act and thereby gave support to the use of law fare. It granted the right to continue to use it as a weapon against Trump and his attempts to correct and expose the system. The idea behind law fare is it doesn't matter if they win or lose. The goal is to make him and his administration ineffective. They will not let up. They won the fight to use frivolous lawsuits to render their target ineffective and to bankrupt them. Make justice C. Thomas chief justice. Impeach Roberts and replace him with someone who has been reviewed by his administration.

I meant #11. This is the answer in more detail than in my #9. SCOTUS does not take cases, in general, until they have worked their way through the lower courts. They don't have time to handle a lot of cases, expect 99% to be handled by lower courts, and if they fail, then the Supremes take a case.
Lower courts will overturn this, and I'm sure that the Supremes saw that this will happen, so decided to let the normal process play out. The case is crap from ten different directions, will be overturned.

Barrett is not and never has been a conservative. The only thing she is conservative about is abortion, other than that she is liberal. She is the Mit Romney of the Supreme Court and seems to be trying to make herself another Sandra Day OConnor.
