Matt Gaetz has withdrawn himself from consideration to President-Elect Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general, the former Florida congressman announced on Thursday afternoon. “ I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I'll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump's DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

Under the circumstances, likely the best path.

Well, THAT was certainly an 'interesting' waste of everyone's time.
Honestly, did ANYONE involved NOT think it was going to be a shot show trying to get him across the finish line???

This is not a surprise. There is no dem that was going to vote for him under any circumstance. And I imagine they poled the rep senators and found that there were enough voting against him that would sink the nomination. There are a handful of rinos and deep staters who would have been happy to say no. And the lead up to the voting was going to become very nasty. This way Trump can nominate someone else who will still have a rough ride but not as bad as what was about to happen to Gaetz. Don't know if this fight is worth a recess appointment. But that is not my decision.

Frankly, I think this was a long shot from the getgo and more importantly part of Trump's plans to help other nominees win approval.

I dunno, but could this be part of the negotiating tactic of , ask for everything, settle for less?

I hope Gaetz was a stalking horse, and that Trump is really about to set them on fire with the one they didn't see coming.

Well, IF this holds and our Gaetz withdraws and is not a recess appointment, then it’s a win for Derp State. Upon thinking a few minutes, this may just be a harbinger that Trump will really have to use recess appointments to get more than one vital Cabinet member into his team.

I believe this was Trump's plan from the get go. Gaetz, while effective, could be a loose cannon and now is the time for everyone to be in lockstep. His ethics inquiry would be fodder for the enemedia and a massive distraction from the vital work to be done

I will not give this to the "deep state". I know one thing, too much mud with this one. Everytime he would have done anything they would have just kept repeating all this stuff and kept digging for more. I am sick of this tactic. I agree we cannot let them do it. Next up they are trying the same thing with Pete Hegseth. Shut that one down. Gaetz- his bestie in jail for underage girls, and these stories. They just ring a little too true.

Any Trump nominee will be labeled as a spawn of Satan. Get used to it.
