Minnesota governor Tim Walz on Tuesday reiterated his support for abolishing the Electoral College and switching to a national popular vote as the sole means of electing presidents and their running mates.
While campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris on the West Coast, Walz suggested at two different fundraisers that he would prefer to focus on winning votes across the country rather than concentrate on key battleground states that could sway the upcoming presidential election as they have done in the past. “I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go. We need, we need national popular vote, but that’s not the world we live in,”

AFAIC, this disqualifies him from any national office. The electoral college is in the Constitution. If he cannot or will not defend the Constitution IN ITS ENTIRETY, than he should not run for national office!!

This is the MOST un-American thing anyone could ever say, especially coming from someone running for such a high office. Coupled with the fact that Tim Walz is a blithering idiot, this should prove that the Democrats couldn't care less for the part of the US between the coasts. The part that feeds us and gives us energy, lumber, etc. Walz is an @-hole.

That’s what a communisto would say. It’s all about the ‘popular’ vote. The East Coast liberal establishment would steamroll over the less populated flyover country every time by sheer numbers. That is why Dems do not want the Electoral College.

No, Tim, we don’t all “know” that. Those who actually know US history and have read the US Constitution understand why it is valuable and necessary. It is the side that must cheat to win that wants it gone. And thankfully, you are only about 25% of the population.

Timmy, why do you think it's in the Constitution in the first place? To keep populous states from running roughshod over the smaller states. It must be hard going through life Timmy, not having the sense that God gave a goose...

It is always a curious thing when a small town Midwesterner wants to end an institution that was designed to keep rural and small town America politically relevant. The Founders and Framers obviously had a bias towards the pragmatic, common-sense values of such people. Walz clearly doesn't.

You’d figure the governor of a small jerkwater state would favor the Electoral College. But the guy is a dimwit and a commie.

At what point does he actually believe in the Oath every elected and appointed person takes when they affirm they will protect and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic?
Or, does he hang is hat on the "to the best of my abilities" which may be why so many let so much happen that looks horrible to most who believe in a strong defense and adherence the the Constitution.
That being said, if they wanted to alter the Electoral College allocation instead of winner take all, they should have each House district winner have that vote allocated accordingly.
Thus, states like CA and NY would have battleground House districts and much attention being paid to them for that coveted vote. And, people would start to see their vote would matter and make a difference.
You would no longer have candidates taking States for granted and not listen to the people impacted by deep blue cities or counties.
In addition to the 435 House district electoral votes to be allocated each Senator would also vote likely according to their political party but could also push people to vote as they'd see their vote count.

His proposal would never survive as an amendment to the Constitution, so the only way to achieve it would be to destroy the Constitution. Oh, wait…

Hey Walzo.... the founding fathers built in the Electoral College in the Constitution so that the big states could not overpower the small states. Did you get that in your civics lass in high school? The Electoral College worked then and it works now.
If we did not have the Electoral College, presidential candidates would only campaign in California, New York and Illinois. Given that those three states are one-party Democrat, maybe presidential candidates would not have to campaign at all this election year.
I, for one Lucianne poster, am a constitutional authority compared to you, Walzo.

An honest reporter would challenge Commie-la and sidekick to explain the basis and virtues of our Constitutional Republic. Nominees for President and VP should be quick to DEFEND the Constitution; and these are quick to DISDAIN it, instead. The mainstream media are not simply asleep at the wheel, when it comes to reporting threats to our country, they are downright COMPLICIT in its destruction.

I believe Hillary is also on record saying this; it's not an uncommon Democrat viewpoint and would immediately result in Rule by the Cities, (a Megalopoly?) And it wouldn't take all that many cities, all Democrat of course, to generate the majority. And think how simple to campaign. Cities have all the media. Democrats could ignore Red areas. Just something else to do when they re-write the Constitution (in addition to the First and Second Amendments).

It is a breach of contract issue. The states with the smaller populations joined the union because the Electoral College gave them the mechanism to avoid the tyranny of the majority. If the Electoral College were abolished, the states with the smaller populations would have cause to secede from the USA.
Let's expand this argument with an international example. The most populous country in the world is China. Do Americans think that our national interests could be well-represented by China? Maybe that's a bad example, because Mr. Walz has already demonstrated his affinity with Communist China.
