For more than two centuries, it’s a town that has stayed out of the spotlight as its largely law-abiding folk quietly carried on with their lives.
It's so unassuming, even its name was taken from another city.
But now Springfield, Ohio, has suddenly found itself under worldwide scrutiny over its burgeoning Haitian population – and you can taste the tension on the streets. The latest inflammatory and unproven accusations that some new immigrants are eating household pets have only served to increase the rancor of many locals who cannot accept the new arrivals.
Meanwhile, some of the 15,000 or so Haitians who have made the city their home

The DOJ’s survey from the Bureau of Justice statistics is self-reported instances of violent crime over the last six months — meaning that it includes crimes that may not have been reported to police.

Remember during the 2020 elections, when several blue states (including the commonwealth of Pennsylvania) rewrote on the fly the laws about how, when, and where mail-in ballots (AKA vote by mail) would be counted? It led to many voters becoming jaded and distrustful of a system that had been considered one of the most honest and free to hold elections in the world.Courts ended up striking down those revised laws, and now we have news of a massive win for election integrity on mail-in ballots by the state Supreme Court in one of those states--the Keystone state of Pennsylvania: (X)

President Joe Biden's term will come to an end in a few months, though they still trot him out to speak on occasion. On Friday, Biden spoke to give remarks to discuss "Black Excellence."
At one point, he managed to stumble out that "in just three and a half years we created over 2 million new black jobs for black--black Americans." Such a line was not only noteworthy as he appeared to struggle with his words, but because he used a term he's decried. (X Video) While giving remarks to the NAACP in July, Biden criticized former and potentially future President Donald Trump's use of the term "black jobs."

Details have emerged of the first batch of stores that Big Lots is closing for good.
The 292 locations, dotted all over the country, are offering as much as 50 percent off bargains - prompting a rush of shoppers looking for deals.
The Columbus, Ohio-based chain on Monday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after years of making big losses. In total, it plans to close a third of its 1,392 locations to cuts costs as it woos a new owner. Retail experts say Big Lots main problem is that it markets itself as a place for bargains, but it is often more expensive than the likes of Walmart and Target.

On Thursday, as we covered at the time, Attorney General Merrick Garland made some rather tone deaf remarks claiming that the Department of Justice's (DOJ) "norms" are "a promise that we will not allow this department to be used as a political weapon." Garland was promptly called out for such remarks, by the Trump-Vance campaign, as well as former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, once a Democrat, now an Independent who is on the Trump transition team. Gabbard also addressed how her criticism is personal.

Per Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), a whistleblower claims that the lead Secret Service agent on the day that former President Donald Trump was shot in the head had been promoted even after she failed at least one key training exam.
Despite this exam failure, former and disgraced Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle promoted the agent. The whistleblower says the agent in question is from the Pittsburgh office and was the advance agent that fateful day. Hawley appeared on Fox News with Jesse Watters on Thursday. Here’s the clip:(X Video)

The Boar’s Head plant at the center of a deadly listeria outbreak in the U.S. is shutting down.
Certain meat and poultry products produced at the plant in Jarratt, Virginia, and distributed to several states have been linked to nine deaths and 57 hospitalizations, as of the Centers for Disease Control’s latest update.
In addition to shuttering its doors, Boar's Head will also permanently discontinue production of liverwurst, which was the product at the center of the company's initial recall in July.

In the aftermath of the debate on Tuesday, the media promptly declared Kamala Harris the winner. Perhaps stylistically, she had an edge, but when it came to resonating with undecided and independent voters, multiple focus groups showed that Trump was the candidate who managed to succeed on that front. A new Insider Poll out of Michigan reinforces Trump’s momentum, showing him ahead 49 percent to Harris’s 48 percent. (X) This is significant because Michigan and Wisconsin are considered some of Kamala Harris’s strongest chances among the swing states, yet the race remains razor thin. Pennsylvania is widely considered the tipping-point state that will determine the outcome.

Two Springfield schools were evacuated on Friday after the Ohio town was besieged with threats over the Haitian migrant debacle.

ABC News is denying the extraordinary allegations there was collusion between the presidential debate moderators and Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.
'Absolutely not,' an ABC News spokesperson told the Daily Beast. 'Harris was not given any questions before the debate.'
Former President Donald Trump and his MAGA allies have stoked conspiracy theories that Harris had a leg up in the debate. Most polling showed that Americans believed Harris had the more commanding performance onstage Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
