Chris Hayes Gets in a Snit Over Nate Silver's

Looks like someone needs to say this for the hundred thousandth-and-second time: The United States is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. The Constitution makes it very plain. While the federal government has some democratic institutions (the House of Representatives - sort of) it also includes some very un-democratic institutions (the Senate, the Supreme Court) because the United States is not a democracy, and the Founders set it up deliberately to prevent government by direct democracy. Leave it to MSNBC's execrable talking head Chris Hayes to neither know nor care about any of this. On Friday, he was in a bit of a snit over new polling showing

Way, way too much soy in this boy's diet. He's also a fool who greatly desires that this country cease being a Republic and become a social(ist) "democracy." For one thing, turning the presidential election into a straight national plebiscite, all the votes thrown into one big pile with no regard for what state they came from, means that any cheating in any place taints the entire pile. In a Republic, at least rampant cheating in, say, Philadelphia taints only Pennsylvania totals. So no, Chris, you're a damn un-American fool, and I never watch you. Hope your network goes O.B.

The article states that the Senate IS NOT a democratically controlled body. It most assuredly IS thought it was equally most assuredly NOT intended to be so by the founders as it was outlined in the Constitution. The 17th Amendment took the Senate and made it to be filled by popular vote. Many do not even realize that the Senate used to be filled however each state wanted to. Most chose to do so through appointments of Senators by state legislative bodies. To the article... The Senate is forever bastardized from its original intent as being the voice of reason to counter the House's voice of the people. If we ever do away with the Electoral College we are done as a nation. Mark those words. California and New York will run the nation and no other state will have any say at all.

Seven of the 14 smallest jurisdictions that cast electoral college votes are solid blue. Vermont, DC, Delaware, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Hawaii. Five of the ten largest jurisdictions are solidly Republican and 2, Pennsylvania and Michigan are usually considered swing states. I don't see how that disadvantages the Democrats. Dems also neglect the fact Republicans routinely win control of the House where all jurisdiction are pretty much the same size as long as you ignore citizenship as a criteria in which case the Dems have a large number of small jurisdictions and like it that way. For congressional apportionment citizenship is ignored and non-citizens live disproportionately in Dem districts. So what you are hearing is total BS and sour grapes.

Hayes seriously needs a history lesson...because the smaller colonies among the original 13 would never have joined the Union without a guarantee that the most populous states would vote themselves the Treasury...which is exactly what Hayes is proposing.

BERLIN, Germany — The far-right Alternative for Germany was on track to become the strongest party in a state election in the country’s east for the first time on Sunday, and at least a very close second to mainstream conservatives in a second vote, projections showed. A new party founded by a prominent leftist was also making an immediate impact, while the parties in Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s unpopular national government were set for weak results. Projections for ARD and ZDF public television based on exit polls and partial counting put support for Alternative for Germany, or AfD, at about 31-33 percent in Thuringia and 30-31% in Saxony. They put the center-right

Russia sees U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris as a more predictable opponent than Republican Donald Trump, though in any case there is no prospect of an improvement in relations with Washington, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. In an interview with Pavel Zarubin, a TV reporter with favoured access to the Kremlin, Peskov also appeared dismissive of Trump's boast that he could end the Ukraine war within 24 hours if U.S. voters returned him to the White House. Before Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from November's election and threw his support behind Harris, Russian President Vladimir Putin had said that Moscow preferred Biden over Trump, describing

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu swore to eliminate Hamas leadership and destroy the terrorist organization in an address shortly after the Israel Defense Forces recovered the bodies of six hostages killed in the tunnels under Rafah, Gaza. “This is a difficult day for us,” Netanyahu began. “Together with all citizens of Israel, I was outraged to the depths of my soul by the horrific, cold-blooded murder of six of our hostages: Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Master Sergeant Ori Danino. In one of the most moving moments of the Democratic National Convention last month, the parents of an American hostage of Hamas, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, spoke about their son as the delegates chanted, “Bring them home.” Overnight Sunday, Hersh’s dead body was discovered in a tunnel under Rafah with five other dead hostages. According to the IDF, evidence suggests that the hostages had been alive for nearly eleven months, but were executed by Hamas within the past few days. In a late-night statement, President Biden said he was “devastated and outraged” and declared, “Make no mistake, Hamas leaders will pay for these crimes.”

So what happened to that bounce that Kamala Harris was supposed to get after the DNC and maybe the interview that she finally got around to doing? Turns out fake "joy" and a train wreck interview don't tend to give you much of a bump. We've reported on how Nate Silver's model wasn't looking good for Kamala. It had Trump up in the Electoral College forecast, as well as in most of the battleground states. Liberal 'Joy' Silver said: But she's also got another problem: it's been a while since we've seen a poll showing Harris leading in Pennsylvania. A high-quality poll showing Harris

As he promised, California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation convening a special legislative session on Saturday after the state Assembly and Senate failed to pass a proposal he submitted on August 15 that would require the state's refineries to maintain reserves to allegedly prevent "price gouging" when there are supply shortages. Of course, even analysts within Newsom's administration agreed that the measure would lead to a further increase in prices instead of bringing Californians any kind of relief at the pump. Democrat legislative leaders objected to Newsom's heavy-handed tactics because they'd already been working on various bills related to the issue and because they wanted

It doesn't take an expert to know that Kamala Harris was out of her element during the softball interview with CNN. She's been avoiding interviews and press conferences for weeks, and despite finally agreeing to an interview with a friendly network conducted by a friendly host, she still needed her male running mate to accompany her. But it should come as no surprise that a body language expert who analyzed Kamala's performance during the interview told Fox News Digital that Harris lacked both confidence and a presidential demeanor. According to Susan Constantine, Harris frequently looked down during the CNN interview, which suggested that she was “not confident in what she’s saying.”

Is Kamala Harris having second thoughts about picking Tim Walz as her running mate? If she isn't, she probably should be. A new poll out of Pennsylvania is shedding some light on just how much of an own-goal that was. Before getting there, though, the topline is really good news for Donald Trump, showing him tied in the head-to-head and leading in the five-way matchup (which is more relevant). It appears Harris' momentum has been completely halted, with no perceivable bounce from the DNC. Bob Casey, the Democrat senator up for re-election in Pennsylvania, only being up two points is also a huge result for Republicans.

Black activists at the California assembly threatened a "direct impact" on Vice President Harris' presidential campaign after state Democratic lawmakers held off on two bills that would have greenlighted slavery reparations. Last week, the California legislature approved proposals allowing for the return of land or compensation to families whose property was unjustly seized by the government, and issuing a formal apology for laws and practices that have harmed Black people. But none of those bills would provide widespread direct payments to African Americans.
