DETROIT – Ford Motor is delaying production of a new plant in Tennessee to produce a next-generation all-electric pickup truck and canceling plans for a three-row electric SUV, the company said Wednesday.
Instead, Ford said it will prioritize the development of hybrid models, as well as electric commercial vehicles such as a new electric commercial van in 2026, followed by two pickup trucks in 2027. The pickups are expected to be a full-size truck, which will be produced at the Tennessee plant that's currently under construction in 2027, and a new midsize pickup.
Ford said it will incur a special non-cash charge of about $400 million for the write-down

Ford stock has tanked. Ford can 't make enough Broncos, Mavericks or Rangers. The SUV line is still in demand and Ford is wasting billions on money losing, nobody wants EVs. And they are now modifying their EV strategy, not eliminating it, to make profitable vehicles. Probably because the tax payer funded goobernment incentives are just too juicy to pass up. So the stockholders and the taxpayers are paying the price for 'green' new deal worthless vehicles. I'll be glad when business men like Henry Ford return to the company and start making cars people want at a good price and profit.

Report from CNBC this morning states Ford is losing $44,000 per EV sold. Sell enough of them and they are out of business.

The more EV cancellations, the better. And bring back more sedan options - not everyone wants SUVs.

Meanwhile, BYD is making hybrids very like the Chevy Volt, which failed, and will likely, and rightly, flood the world with them.

Having thrived on government subsidies, they’ll be back for a bailout as the former dries up.

Hybrids have always made more sense than pure EVs (not that I'd buy either). You don't have to sit for hours at a charging station, and you can run it on gasoline.

Agree with #11. Also won't buy either. The hybrid still has the battery issues (weight, mining etc) plus I suspect repair complications in the future as mechanics have to be trained on both electric and gasoline technology. Sometime in the future, way, way in the future, a new means of power will be developed that will replace both but it won't be in our lifetimes. For now, oil-based power is the only affordable means to provide our comfortable lifestyles.

I've had several Toyota hybrid SUVs since 2006. A Highlander Hybrid, a RAV 4 Hybrid, and I'm now driving a Lexus Hybrid, that I inherited from my wife.
I have never had any issues with the hybrid powertrain on any of my vehicles, and I get a little better fuel economy than a straight ICE powertrain.
My Highlander went through tires faster than a straight ICE car, so the electric part was pretty heavy. When I researched RAV4s, the electric power train added about 50 pounds to the empty weight. The Lexus's electric part probably adds more weight, but I'm getting close to 40 MPG in it.

Hint to Ford, cancel the EV line completely and stop the bleeding now. EVs are going nowhere in this country. You may send my $100,000 consulting fee to:

Something must be improving for Ford because not long ago I read it was costing the company $100,000 for every pickup sold. Now it is $40,000.
