The apparent crash of a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the country’s foreign minister and other officials is likely to reverberate across the Middle East. That’s because Iran has spent decades supporting armed groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and the Palestinian territories that allow it to project power and potentially deter attacks from the United States or Israel, the sworn enemies of its 1979 Islamic Revolution. Tensions have never been higher than they were last month,

Iran already tried to lob thousands of rockets Israel's way last month with no material consequences of note thanks to Israel's Iron Dome and our help. This 'accident' has all the marks of Israel's IDF or Mossad as payback and sending the message 'Don't screw with us. None of you are safe - ANYWHERE'.

Helos break, and often the pilot is left with no chance to get any version of a safe landing. I tend to doubt that Israel had anything to do with this, probably an ancient Soviet helo with questionable maintenance history.

Bigger picture - TWO heads of state possibly lost their lives this week. So far it appears the Slovakia PM is surviving, but he could have been killed. This is too much to be coincidence IMHO.

More investigation finds that the helo is a civil version of the old Huey used in Vietnam. Since we have been cutting off parts supplies for any and all aircraft to Iran for decades, you can bet that the parts needed to maintain this helo were hard to get, and came through questionable (to say the least) channels. Maintaining and old helo with iffy parts purchased from smugglers......sounds incredibly likely to cause an unreliable helo. Many, many parts of helos require periodic replacement. Part A must be replaced every 450 flight hours, regardless of how it looks, feels or measures in any test. MANDATORY. Hundreds of parts are like that in the rotor head and transmission system. With highly questionable parts, meaning NONE from a Bell helo dealer, I'll bet that parts were regularly "inspected and found OK" when the book says "must be replaced". :Let's hope that they were all wiped out. It would make the world a slightly better place.

Looks like a 70's era Bell 212, likely "confiscated" from a US or other foreign contracting company during the revolution.Iran also has/had a BUNCH of the military version, called Huey's. In the picture I saw, it does not have the standard/telltale fin over the cockpit that IFR equipped 212's of that era all have, sooo...no instrument flying, visual only...though they were flying in a group of three in very limited visibility. As Gawd wanted. inshâ'Allah إن شاء الله

The Iranians keep these old "Shah era" American made helicopters going with duct tape and spit. When they do get parts, they're usually from aircraft parts dealers that deal in "uncertified used" parts. Helicopters have MANY mechanical "single-point-failures," meaning there is no "back-up system," and which require frequent parts replacements with NEW OEM parts. The alternative is often death. With that in mind, this is the reason helicopters are huge financial "black-holes" in maintenance costs alone, but they're also fuel hogs, and that's not cheap either. That's why "special purpose operators" might opt to "truck" their helicopter to the location it's needed, rather than flying it there. My guess is on a Mossad operation. This is REALLY gonna tick off Barack and ValJar.

While it would be gratifying to think that Mossad was behind this, the chances that an old helicopter flying in the fog in the mountains is the likely cause. It was supposedly flying with two other 'copters and they still can't find the crash site. Chances are that the other two did not even know that the crash occurred until later. It looked like rescue vehicles on the ground had difficulty navigating through the fog.

What next for Iran after President Raisi's death? 14 replies
Posted by 4250Luis 5/20/2024 5:36:10 AM Post Reply
Ebrahim Raisi stood close to the pinnacle of power in the Islamic Republic and was widely tipped to rise to its very top. A dramatic turn dealt him a different hand. His death in a helicopter crash on Sunday has upended the growing speculation over who will eventually replace the 85-year-old Supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose own health has long been the focus of intense interest. The tragic fate of Iran’s hardline president is not expected to disrupt the direction of Iranian policy or jolt the Islamic Republic in any consequential way. But it will test a system where conservative hardliners now dominate all branches of power, both elected and unelected.

Former President Donald Trump has led President Joe Biden in nearly every poll this cycle in Nevada — a state that hasn’t gone Republican in 20 years. A Nevada victory would net Trump six electoral votes in November, a margin that could prove decisive in handing the former president a second term. Trump boasts his largest lead of any battleground state in Nevada, where he is currently ahead by 6.2 points, while Biden has only led in three polls there all cycle, according to the RealClearPolitics (RCP) averages. Several political operatives and pollsters told the Daily Calller

As Donald Trump’s historic hush money trial nears its end, the former president’s legal team has a crucial decision to make: whether or not to ask the jury to consider misdemeanor charges in the case. During the charge conference that precedes closing arguments – which are expected early this week – Trump’s team, by New York state law, can request what’s known as a lesser included offense (LIO) to have the jury weigh 34 misdemeanor counts of falsifying business records instead of the 34 felony counts prosecutors have alleged the ex-president committed, former judge Ethan Greenberg wrote in the Wall Street Journal Sunday.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration floated a trial balloon, suggesting "senior officials across several federal U.S. agencies have discussed the practicality of different options to resettle Palestinians from Gaza who have immediate family members who are American citizens or permanent residents."No other Middle Eastern country is crazy enough to want large numbers of Gazans to enter their country. The history of Palestinians in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria suggests that the refugees would look to overthrow the government or launch terrorist attacks against Israel from within their borders. This apparently isn't deterring Joe Biden. Perhaps it should. Pinhas Inbari, a veteran Arab affairs analyst,

Wilders will lead a coalition of four parties with a clear agenda of sweeping away the disastrous results of an open border that has flooded the Netherlands with a mass migration from the Middle East. That in turn has brought lawlessness from the rising migrant count leaving the silent majority exposed to behavior that they objected to with their votes.
